Marcus Rashford (Out) | Rashford: “For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”

It's sad in some respects, but simultaneously it's the best news to come out of the club in terms of actual change happening, for a very long time. Yes we've gotten rid of underperforming players over the past decade, but Rashford was the poster child that remained despite unexcusable performances season in, season out.

Pogba would be, surely.

We invested way more into him (after he soured off to Juve) and only got rid because his inflated contract expired.

I'll be upset when Marcus leaves. Such a good role
model for so long, but in the past few seasons there has been something missing.

Goodbye and good luck.

So reading between the lines Amorim has worked him out very quickly, and told him he has no future at the club.

I think its also Wilcox and the senior management who also have watched the squad closely and know he isn't going to fit in with the style of play / pressing.

Did we need to be so public in declaring he's for sale? Expect us to get insultingly low offers now, one of which we'll succumb into accepting too out of sheer desperation. Daniel Levy probably licking his lips preparing a £15million bid.

His contract length will mean it wont be that low.

Here's a thing I've noticed though, we're all rightly happy about the potential return of a merit based team hierarchy........... but mention the possibility of Rashford and Garnacho rising to the challenge and turning it around and its a problem for some? ......huh?
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/sunkcost.asp - See Rashford

Garnacho maybe has more chance. But we can’t pretend like Rashford hasn’t had a fair shot at his.

PSG got 60m lying around ... Wish him well but it seems its time to go

Aside from any qualms about his attitude or form, he doesn't really fit Amorim's system either.

Best for all parties that he moves on.

Would be happy to sell to a rival, it’d be a win win
Not that they'd be interested but I wouldn't like to see him at City or Liverpool. I'm fine with the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal though. Seen people argue we'd be strengthening a rival but we're miles away from being a title challenger this early on in the rebuild, and the move would be a big risk for the buyer considering Rashford's patchy form over the years. Bigger players than him have left for those teams or come here and success stories have been very few (RvP for one season)

I am curious to see where he'll end up playing. I think Italy or France look more realistic targets than Spain or Germany but you never know.

The deal will likely be lined up already and this is the PR stuff before hand.

Has he ever been the same since his back injury? I don't think he has, and prior to that was his best and most consistent spell (unless I'm misremembering).

Will be interesting to see if he does have something lined up, or if after all that talk he’s a bench player at United for the rest of the season

Better off take one of the up and coming academy kids and give them game time. They will do no worse defensively or offensively. They will build their profile and value in the process. Rashford was never as good as he was hyped up to be. And I think he knows it himself . Weird life to live as a kid though. Being raised as a Man united starlet. No one should take any of this personally, fans, Rashford, whoever. It is what it is. If still wants to play , the best place for him is Italy. Might do well on the counter.

People keep mentioning PSG but I could actually see it being Milan. They seem to absolutely love players who weren’t quite up to it in the PL but can go to Serie A and thrive. We’ve sold them Pulisic and Tomori and they now have Tammy Abraham as well. He’d fit right in there and probably do really well.
Serie A clubs probably won’t be able to afford his wages. Reason why people keep mentioning PSG because the PSG president had mentioned their interest in Rashford few times in the last 2 years. In addition to that PSG can afford his wages, they need to upgrade some of their current forwards, and Rashford has history scoring some goals against PSG which is why PSG probably rate him high enough to take him.

His back injury days were with Ole. His best season was during ETHs first season.

From what I see in all of this,

1. Amorim has come in and very quickly seen through Rashford, saw that he’s nowhere near what he wants in the squad

2. Amorim relays his thoughts on to Wilcox who agrees and relays that on to Berrada

3. Berrada puts the feelers out to clubs that Rashford is available

4. Rashford is told he has no future at the club as his displays have been piss poor for the past 4 years outside of a half season purple patch goal wise although his actual performances outside of goals have still been average at best

5. Amorim drops Rashford from the derby on Sunday

6. Amorim gives his reasons in the nicest way possibly

7. Rashford wants to be in charge of a potential PR war so declares he’s ready for a new challenge, basically attempting to jump before pushed although we can all see he’s been pushed

8. A new club has clearly been found with Rashford publicly declaring he’s wanting a new challenge which means he’s played his last game

9. Berrada and Wilcox are currently negotiating a fee with the new club whilst Rashford’s agent has almost certainly agreed wages due to team Rashford talking publicly about leaving

10. Rashford joins his new club on January 1st once the window is open

Fair fecks for MR to come out and say that. Pretty big statement really and not often you hear that from a player. Not sure how it helps him and weakens United, rather the other way round.
Don’t want to see him in the PL for another club but not sure where he goes. However, I don’t see any metric where he stays now as he’s just not interested in performing for United anymore - it’s time to go.

It's a bit disappointing he doesn't want to fight for his career here and seems happy to just leave. But it is what it is, hopefully the sale happens in January.

Honestly really sad about this, but it's probably the right decision for all parties. Hopefully he can have the opportunity to put in a few half-decent performances before the end of the season so we can part ways on a positive. It would be really sad (not to mention just bad strategy) if he spends the next 5 months on the bench.

I don't actually know how Rashford is viewed by other top clubs nowadays, you kind of get wrapped up in how bad he's been for us recently, but maybe he's seen in a different light by non United supporters?

Perhaps there will actually be genuine interest there from alot of top clubs, and we could get a decent fee for him.

His new club will be shocked at how mediocre he is.

If I was him, I would try to go to inter Milan. They have managed to squeeze a lot from PL players.

Seems a good decision. Should have happened before the new deal, stupid decisions once again.

To be fair you missed the guardian article that referenced Ratcliffe and amorim wanting rid of him that probably prompted today's interview. Really don't think there is any obvious transfer for him at the moment so would be suprised if he is gone in early jan

His back injury days were with Ole. His best season was during ETHs first season.

Granted he put up his best numbers in that first ten Hag season he was awful the one prior to that and then ever since.

For me he was at his best during Ole's tenure, up until his back injury. He seemed to maintain an excellent level for a long time then too.

£30m and him fully off the wage list would be an amazing outcome.

Also, hope he finds motivation and joy somewhere else. Just not in the Premier League, preferably.

Hallelujah! It's a Christmas miracle.

Well, it's now set up to be. This better mean that potential suitors are being lined up for January. The last thing we want is a Rashford farewell tour for the second half of the season.

Again it's the same system we play.
It isn't, they play two CFs. He'd be fine as a left sided CF in a front two like that.

However, I don't see why they'd want him when they have Lautaro who is miles ahead of Rashford, and Thuram who works very hard and is in great form.

They play wingbacks too.

Well he can try to be their 9 (if their attackers don't need to press that much).

Maybe Roma ? But I doubt they have the money.

Which other league loves washed PL players? Saudis? Can we persuade him to go there? Thats the issue.

It was obvious from the moment when we hired Amorim that he needs to go. He is purely a winger for who there is no position in this system.
I think Garnacho could follow him in a year or 2 unless he adapts on new position.

I'm a little surprised he's come out publicly but from the sounds of it, this was on the cards. Sad it's ended this way but all the best to him in the future.

His form hasn't been good for a while and it's probably best for all parties that he leaves.

I think even if you ignore the workrate side of things, I don't think he fits into the system under Amorim anyway. He doesn't have the work rate or defensive skills to play as a WB. In the two positions he's played, he's not a no.9 you want to lead the line (emergency option only) and I don't think either of the 10 positions get the best out of him either. Amorim has tried but I don't think it really matters how hard he tries, I don't think he's suited to those positions ahead a lot of our other players.

Then you look at the wages and keeping Rashford as a rotation option just doesn't make any sense.

I think the tactical limitations are there with Garnacho too but he's younger and earns a lot less.
