He seems to be a little selfish when on left and when can’t cut in puts the head down and hopes for bit of luck.

when he went to the right at the end he was getting crosses in because he wasn’t comfortable cutting in. Might work out better for us and hojlund if he plays there a bit more often.

How can you be sure? Pretty sure everyone was saying that about Kane.

Because whenhe decides to actually start playing he's still the only one who makes things happen.

And his potential replacement isn't ready and unfortunately has the same problems.

I've heard this before, it's an actual meme "where will the goals come from", such a silly way at looking at things.

Did decently I thought? He's always shit at tracking back, that won't be as big of a problem when he is the only one in the team who is shit at tracking back (replace Eriksen with Amrabat to have a huge improvement in terms of the cover on the left side of midfield). Mount in on the right potentially too.

Great pace, can shoot, good at running at opposition. But when the game slows, he is not a good enough footballer to play the right pass like Sane did tonight.

Would have been a great player if he could go back 10 years, but football has moved on. Defensively, he is useless.

How had football moved on? Not every team has to play the same way.

Played well today overall.

I actually think he should've shot instead of making the assist to Hojlund, he did seem to be looking for Hojlund more today to be fair to him. The thing is with Rashford is you can see him run his ass off in the big games but he seems to think working in the games against the 'inferior' teams is beneath him.

In the era of 4-4-2 what would Rashford be because he’s not good enough to be a striker, a winger or a wide midfielder. I wish his role at United was same as England as an impact sub but unfortunately he’s our main goal threat

Could actually see him perform well in a 442 system with a suitable strike partner to link with

He just doesn't do enough defensively does he? If he can't regularly contribute similar numbers to last season or buckle down and work hard for the team I'd be willing to sell for a decent price.

I'd like to see more fire from him.

Playing too cool for my liking, but no one is playing well at the moment unfortunately.

I'm not sure it's any one thing in particular but when you see him against truly top class players the gulf is self-evident. There's just so much missing from his game. A depth, perhaps. The difference between someone who can play an instrument beautifully and someone who can hit some of the notes occasionally.

It's hard to explain but there's just so much of Rashford's game that simply isn't.... there.

Started off poorly but grew into the game. Relative to recent performances this was a step in the right direction.

Rashford is like someone who's spent years memorizing how to play Master of Puppets but doesn't know what a scale or chord progression are.

I think so. He can do his one thing if he has a favouring wind on the day. But as an overall player, I'm sorry I think he's by far the weakest in the side. Even if we want to avoid talking about workrate and pressing. He's made redundant via a simply tactical instruction to slow the pace of the game down. Because he can't do it. And so much else.

The puzzling thing about Rashford to me is that he doesn't seem to have progressed his game since he broke through under LVG. He's still rapid, got a good shot, and is decent at dribbling but he's still poor in the air, one footed, poor off the ball, and he still makes bad decisions too regularly!

He's 25 now so this is probably the player he'll be for the rest of his career until he loses pace.

Scored some very good headers and left footed goals last season. Which were factors in him scoring more goals than he ever scored before. So weird timing to be talking about him having not progressed.

I could be wrong. I'll watch last seasons highlights.

What areas would you say Rashford has progressed in since his debut season?

Scoring with his head and left foot. He’s also a lot stronger and harder to knock off the ball (which you’ll see helps him score a few of those goals when you watch the season highlights!)

I'm halfway through the official Man Utd youtube video of Rashford's 30 goals. So far he's scored 15. Two of those goals were from his head. One was from his weak foot. That's not good enough.

Edit: the weak foot goal was a tap in under no pressure.

I don’t care what you do or don’t consider good enough. You’re arguing he hasn’t progressed or improved. All that matters is in that context is whether or not it’s an improvement on previous seasons.

You may also want to consider the total number of goals you’re about to watch when deciding if he’s a better player now than he was in the past…

OK, fair arguments. I'll admit I could be wrong but show me the evidence.

He was definitely better with his head last season. Just like pressing and tracking back it's one of those things he only really does if his mercurial temperament allows.

Arguably this is the most frustrating thing, as even if you subscribe to the theory he's technically limited as a player - as I obviously do - he could still press, run and track back. Yet he only does so on occasion when he feels like it.

@Pogue Mahone sorry to tag you again but you said this:

All that matters is in that context is whether or not it’s an improvement on previous seasons.

Which isn't actually true. Some players need to improve at a greater rate than others in order to stay in the team.

Just because player A is better than he was last year doesn't mean he's better than player B.

When Rashford should have been bollocked and lose his place for his performances, his punishment was being the first name on the team sheet.

His 'fit enough to play 90 minutes every match, too badly injured to play well' period.

Maybe that, as much as anything, has contributed to the player he is now

This is the Rashford issue.

He is technically limited but extremely productive.

He hasnt yet shown the workrate of similarly limited players so when he loses form he's almost useless. You end up hoping for a moment of brilliance.

Something I've criticised him for, I just don't think he's that "fire in the belly" type of player. Which is what I think separates him from the likes of Vini and Mbappe, those 2 seem to have a fire and desire to impact a game whereas Rashford just seems to wait for the game to come to him.

I also think he is not suited for tight games where you need very good close control and quick feet. If you compared him to Gnabry or Sane, both of those have the ability to attack a fullback when there is space like Rashford but also have very good control and feet in tight spaces. As with the Vini and Mbappe example I think its what separates him from that truly world class category. A perfect example to compare at united is Martial who when he was playing on the wing had both the ability to attack 1 on 1 but also the feet to play more intricate footie. Which is annoying how his career has panned out.

People mistake that with laziness but I honestly believe our players have poor stamina
I think its more how hes being asked to track. Hes basically covering the ball in the middle and also tracking the fullback at the same time. Which means hes usually full sprint to get back to the fullback. Its just not effcient at all. Of course better stamina also helps

Because they've been coasting for far too long and don't have the years of hard work and conditioning built up to be able to work their ass off every game.

Or they don't have asthma and aren't on prescribed PEDs.
