I think he was very good attacking wise in the first half. Just unlucky to lack endproduct. But touch, finesse etc. was on point.
Second half he faded away and was not seen much.

Have to say, I really got angry at him for his defensive efforts. He is the weak point in our press and I'm sure managers like de zerbi regocnised that long time ago.

Without doubt our most frustrating player, most confusing player. Which is a shame because a few years ago I thought he'd go on to be a club legend. Just can't see it happening now.

It's a shame Garnacho isn't another year on to properly give him some competition.

But then again I think Garnacho might have similar problems.

He pissed me off so much. His decision making is atrocious. It must be extremely frustrating to have to play with him. He refuses to pass in great positions. Hojlund is going to realise very quickly how frustrating it is to play #9 for us. The game goes to 1-1 if Rashford passes back to Hojlund. Instead, he keeps dribbling through the half space and shoots into the side netting. This guy is 25 now and is a key player in the team. He plays the game like he's still a 20 year old. I don't understand it. 26 at the end of next month.

When he has chosen to dribble down the outside, and play the ball back into the box, we've either scored or made a good chance. He even did it for our disallowed goal and then refused to do it again after that.
I agree with this. I felt bad for Hojlund. He could have got of the mark today and alleviated pressure on him and the manager.

This undroppable status that Rashford enjoys will hold the team back whilst he continues to play for himself and not press. I'm not sure how long ETH will be able to stick with him whilst the midfield get run into the ground.

It won't happen but I want to see him dropped for the Bayern game. I can't help but feel he was saving his legs today for the bigger stage, such is his selfishness.

His biggest problem is his lack of work rate and intelligence off the ball. On it, it's composure and stupid decision making. I'd even say Martial is a smarter pressing player because he at least drops off and cuts out passing lines, he doesn't just casually jog after the ball.

You can train work rate and composure.

But you can't train brains. 6/7 years now and he still makes the same selfish decisions and stupid mistakes over and over.

Sadly he's going to Bruno stratosphere. Stats merchant. At least he delivers on big games, unlike Brubo

I genuinely feel he is another player we need to get rid of. He could generate a decent fee and his overall gameplay stunts our growth. Work rate is low, especially when he has missed chances, greediness is pathetic at times as was evident today. He has an attitude of a superstar without producing superstar results. You’d think he was prime Ronny or Mbappe the way he dawdles around the pitch. He will command a few of over 100mil in the current climate and that money could be used to improve 2 positions. With players like Garnacho and Amad who work hard and would relish the opportunity, even Pellistri given a chance, id say we have better options out wide without Rash than the team that beat us today. Build a team, remove the individuals.

Well, off the ball this happens too much

Basically nullified our press. And this was first half

Lazy feck. Thinks he’s bigger than he is. He should be ashamed of himself. Has no one in this club got the courage to give him a dressing down about his work rate? Seems like he’s untouchable no matter what. The day he’s sold the day we would get rid of this half arsed rotten attitude of some players.

Something is wrong with him physically. After every forward run (can't even be bothered with defensive ones), he's down on his haunches

I think he plays for himself first and foremost.

He rarely looks for anyone else, which is a pity as he gets into great positions with his speed.

But maybe this is a result of the absolute state of the forwards the past few years.

He gets a 1 from me. Selfish feck. Thinks he is way better than he actually is.

Really torn about him at the moment. On the one hand he's such a threat in attack abd our best outlet, but he doesn't do his defensive work and is frequently far too selfish on the ball. You can't drop him because he's our best attacker, but he needs to pull his head in.

If you crash 7 cars on the way to the shop, if you finally get to the shop in the 8th car it doesn't mean you're a really good driver.

That's pretty much where Rashford is at the minute when it comes to assessing his value as an attacking threat.

But there comes a point where you start to wonder if he's our only dangerous player because his selfish style prevents others from being a threat. A bit simplistic I admit, but I also thinks it's overly simplistic to think that we'd be fecked without him.

Think that's completely accurate to be honest.

Just rewatched the game. Harsh critics in here. Made a few poor decisions but overall was ok.

I've said this in another thread but he has to be being instructed to be as direct as possible as I don't see a single teammate complaining.

I feel for Hojlund because he's going to keep making runs all season and be totally ignored.

Even Weghorst on occasions was completely ignored in attacking situations where he'd have had a tap in.

The annoying thing is if he passes to hoijlund and we go 1-1, now all of a sudden Brighton defenders are thinking he can go outside and pass, cut back, or inside and dribble / shoot or cross / pass early. It adds more to his unpredictability

Kudos to you. Honestly, when it come to reruns, I'm as fairweather as they come! Whenever we lose, I ain't watching any part of it. Even when we win, on a rewatch, I tend to fast forward pass any goal we concede!

Defensively he's absolutely terrible, always has been. Attitude isn't right and he always seems to lack either the desire or stamina to run hard for the full game like some players can and do.

I wouldn't criticise him that much offensively, he was our most likely player. Frustrating, absolutely, but it happens with wide players. The defensive stuff was more worrying.

Probably the reaction on here is a bit OTT but I still think Rashford had a bad game. Bad decisions and didn't put in a shift defensively. For a player earning 300k plus who is meant to be our star attacking player I think we can rightfully expect more.

A player I have, personally, always found incredibly hard to like, between his lack of vision, greediness, laziness, his at times absolute embarrassing PR team, and him being over rated and nearly immune from criticism from British media. I have just never seen him as a world class player that people try to make him out to be.
He is not a team player, we won’t win titles with him as a regular starter. I am convinced by that. Having a centre forward who thrives on crosses, early passes through the lines and cut backs is a waste when Rashford 9/10 times makes the wrong decision and makes zero effort to win it back.
It would be a brave manager who would drop him due to his poor performances. He’d be slaughtered by the press.

Haha yeah I was out today so didn’t see any of the game. Was curious.

Watch it again if you have time. He did not have a bad game. Created a few decent chances to Hojlund and also was unlucky not to score a couple himself.

A couple of times he made the wrong decision agreed, but he overall was ok.

Expecting more agree but I personally think you need a cohesive attack and we don’t have one. He didn’t press as much as Hojlund, but even then hes making a lot of runs off the ball at full sprint and then recovering

Saying that Rashford has some obvious flaws but from just rewatching the game I think the criticism is very OTT today.

Funny the Casemiro criticism today is also way over the top too.

All the wingers at other top clubs in the premier league work harder than him and put in a shift for the team. Saka, Martinelli, Son even Mo Salah and then I see this so called superstar jogging and walking like it’s beneath him makes my blood boil. Him being the face of this club just strolling around says everything what’s wrong on the pitch. I’d sell him tomorrow if I could.

That was before their goal too. When I saw it, I knew we were fecked after the promising start.

As i said above, I think he was (offensively) very good in the first half and just unlucky to not get the goals and/or assists.

It's his lack of workrate against the ball that makes him vulnerable if he doesn't have the endproduct in the offense. It's just not enough from him there.
Some of the comments in here are definitely over the top though.

So lazy, it's completely unacceptable. Should be dropped for a prolonged spell.

Honestly, I don't mind starting Garnacho, Hojlund and Pellistri (3 players more or less at the same level of their respective careers so far) together. Rashford needs to be reminded that playing in his position also means that there are a number of things he must do to achieve and maintain success, namely work his socks off and feed the striker.

But Rashford is the least Cohesive part of it.

Actually today he was not. Him and Hojlund actually found each other well.

Today the attacking midfield players did not link well with the front 2

Rashford is the type of player who will squander 20 attacks a game, leave us exposed defensively down the left, but get a goal in a 2-1 defeat and get defended as "our most dangerous player"

Sorry he's garbage.

This. Reminds me of the Rooney conundrum we had in his last year or two at the club. Would show up with goals but they tended to mask his overall terrible level of play. Playing terribly for the majority of most games should not be excused by a good scoring record.
