So fecking what? This idea someone can be a complete liability defensively and waste most of our attacks with selfishness and squander our ability to put teams away and its fine because he got 17 league goals. It's a team game. His presence is wasteful and detrimental. The fact he sometimes gets on score sheet himself doesn't change that

This is the issue. He'd have got on the end of one today and despite being absolute garbage half the Caf would be saying "got a goal, must have played well"

So true but you'll be bashed for this. Caf really likes its golden boy, regardless of his terrible team play for 90 mins week in week out.

That last part is debatable. He's more so courageous, than timid. But his effort level off the ball is atrocious. I will say that TMDaines, brought up a good point for him off the ball. He will make runs in attack. All his effort goes to him scoring.
I disagree with this part. His effort is limited to his play on the ball. He's jogging around at all other times, including when he's supposed to be pressing for the ball.
Both fair points

Rashford is the type of player who will squander 20 attacks a game, leave us exposed defensively down the left, but get a goal in a 2-1 defeat and get defended as "our most dangerous player"

Sorry he's garbage.

Was called a wum in the ten hag vs sancho thread for saying i couldn’t tell the difference between rashford and sancho. Seems many others cant as well :D.

It was a stupid post in the ten hag vs sancho thread and its a stupid post in this thread. Rashford was bad today, very bad but he has shown a lot more than Sancho. They also play the role of the left winger totally different so if you dont see a difference it is a you problem im afraid.

Not garbage but definitely not good enough for a team that wants to play well consistently for 90 minutes week in week out and challenge for serious honours.

Mate they are both not up to the standard. One day you’ll wake and smell the coffee. Yeh in between then Rashford might have a 2/10 game but get a worldie winner but thats not enough for us. We need 11 players not 9 (sorry Brunos useless as well).

He has no strategy what to do with the ball if at the end of an attack he can't shoot. He'll just keep hold of it until he runs out of space. How are you supposed to coordinate an attack with that handicap?

So many times today Hojlund could have been fed and put is clear.

How many times did he cut in from the left to attempt either to go past 2-3 Brighton players or simply shoot on sight? Couldn’t help but laugh when Lamptey then cuts in, looks up and instantly plays the ball to a better placed teammate who scores. Yes, Rashford will score a few cracking goals every once in a while, every so often his contribution will be crucial to winning matches, but more often than not being successfull is a result of making the right decisions on the pitch. Several times he had Reguilon on an overlap on the outside with a ton of space in behind, just play him in behind and continue into the box where you are more likely to score.

I was trying to explain this to someone and they couldn't grasp it and kept repeating Rashford is our most dangerous outlet/adds dynamism and doesn't delay any attacks.

The wage we gave him is a problem insofar as if we added two better players* in CF and RW then he'd probably still expect to be our main man, which won't work given his tendency to be inconsistent over the course of a full season.

I can see this being the next big fallout over the coming years as we'll have to upgrade our attack so as not to rely so completely on him.

*Hojlund could become one of them. I hope he does.

Because of that wage we are stuck with him.

I could still see PSG coming in for him if Mbappe leaves in 2025 (suspect he'll sign a one year deal). Maybe I'm being optimistic though.

I also don't necessarily want him to leave but would rather he wasn't the sole focal point of our attack for too much longer.

Getting sick of his shit. If Ten Hag wants to maintain a semblance of still being a serious coach and manager, this lad needs dropping.

And he can either f**k off and sulk about it or he can buck up his ideas, but it can't keep going the way it's going.

Yes, he has his faults but he’s also our most - if not only - dangerous player. There’s no alternative to playing him.

This way of thinking will not get us to the next level.

Absolutely god awful decision making today. The one time he actually squared it to Hojlund it was a goal but then he didn't do it again all game.

This guy is not taking prisoners today and he is right.

Marcus Rashford has played with:

- Cristiano Ronaldo
- Zlatan Ibrahimovic
- Edinson Cavani
- Harry Kane
- Wayne Rooney

And still after 9 seasons he has not learned that as a winger you have to create FOR YOUR STRIKER.

This is the Star Boy & the Ballon d’Or Contender…

The most overrated & overhyped player in the Premier League.

The fact that Rashford did not cross that ball to Hojlund on that play should have warranted an immediate substitution at that moment.

The first good offer in for Rashford and it a sell from me. Time after time he shows brilliance, usually coinciding with a pay rise after which he is average at best. He doesn't want to win a 50/.50 , doesn't chase lose causes, doesn't look for assists. General play is poor midfield is slow and at best Rashord jogs most of the games since pay rise. He is good on a chase but even that isn't nailed on this year. This is what i am seeing am i missing something and am i wrong ?.

I will give him some leeway and that the whole team is undercooked and sooner we get first team players back in the better and some speed and legs in midfield.
Casemiro and Erickson should never be played together.

Too lazy to lead the line? His link play is not a strength, but he’s literally the only player at the club who makes any runs in behind since we released Ronaldo. He can’t offer that threat and track a full back back routinely.

I saw moaning at him for not tracking Brighton’s full back today. He was playing centre forward in a 4-4-2 diamond. It makes about as much sense as criticising Andy Cole for not doing the same thing, when he’s banging in 30 goals a season.

His runs are so ridiculously one dimensional. It's in a straight line, in behind the fullback diagonally towards goal. If it's not that he doesn't move. Not in attack and not in defence. Its like he thinks he's too good to put any effort in if he can't score.

Right now, we need chemistry up front. If Rashford doesn't do his part to link up with a proper striker (Hojlund), then he should make way and come off the bench to replace Garnacho for a couple of matches. I personally prefer playing 3 kids at more or less the same stage of their respective careers and perhaps developping some chemistry than wasting valuable time with someone older, who has seemingly forgotten his role as a winger.

As talented as he was, Gareth Bale fell out of favor in Madrid because he was too selfish. Rashford better be aware of this.

He is our most threatening player but his decision making is frustrating and the way he ambles about the pitch is infuriating. He's absolutely useless when he's not a scoring, a moments player in a moments team.

But there comes a point where you start to wonder if he's our only dangerous player because his selfish style prevents others from being a threat. A bit simplistic I admit, but I also thinks it's overly simplistic to think that we'd be fecked without him.

I really like him as a player but I feel with him and Bruno being the focal points of our attack we won’t get anywhere. Brighton showed us today how it’s done. Not being wasteful, always looking for the best and safest option instead of trying something special and waste the ball.

Agree with this. People were turning their noses up at fecking Mbappe because he tends to be lazy out of possession when we have a similar player that isn’t close to that level already. You can’t make concessions like that unless you’re getting elite production on the ball. But like I said before, Rashford tends to have all of the swagger/style of prime CR7 but none of the mentality or killer instinct in the final third. Ronaldo could afford not to press at Madrid because you knew he’d bag at least 2 goals with the chances Rashford had, and probably fashion another 2 on top of that.

The arrogance for a player that hasn’t actually achieved anything at the club level is disheartening if I’m honest. We are up against a notable tough side in Brighton today off the back of a hellish 2 weeks as a club and he couldnt be fecked to press for more that half an hour.

Ding ding ding. If he wasn't seen as some sort of superstar that be fine but today was a perfect example of why he shouldn't be undroppable/ not being one we sub

He’s had previous spells like this, hence why I was really surprised by the “world class” posts when he had his purple patch last season. You can’t be world class and have these recurring spells of uselessness (even if you do bounce back), same with Shaw.

He'll be gone next summer, but in the meantime he's our main goal threat. So to drop him would be suicidal for ETH in the current circumstances.

I’ve said it for a while now yes. People are astonished that Brighton with a lot of no name players can effortlessly cut through us when the fact is they don’t have some “superstar” player looking to do it all and instead function as a unit. A player is open= pass them the ball and then make the next run to receive it. Get the ball wide = look for runners in the box. It’s not difficult to do when you have a team full of players that are willing to make the right decisions and won’t lose possession stupidly beforehand.

United at this moment have shown little to suggest this team or even the manager have the capability to challenge for the title. You can't rue that down to one player but a plethora of influences.

Years of free flowing football under Ole have done massive amount of damage to him.
He never truly learned to play structural football.
I remember Mourinho saying Rashford was defensively good and responsible. Hah! Whatever happened to that.
Curious how his career woulda gone if he developed under Pep.

He is our most threatening player but his decision making is frustrating and the way he ambles about the pitch is infuriating. He's absolutely useless when he's not a scoring, a moments player in a moments team.
This is the most accurate summary of him.

This way of thinking will not get us to the next level.

What is the next level, the guy was the most significant attacker last season what happens if United get rid of him ? Sancho to play his minutes, Pellistri is he ready or Amad. United can't even find a proven striker to have adequately replaced an aged Cavani. The idea you get rid of Rashford and somehow this club's attack which is the worst area of the field suddenly functions is nonsensical.

He's always been a selfish player. There were countless occasions last season where someone else was in a better position in the box but he took a punt at it. But, unlike last season, he's not as clinical in front of goal now and it's costing us.

I'm not singling him out though, he's still one of the better players on the pitch for us and he's actually putting the effort in unlike some of his mentally weak team mates.
Well, off the ball this happens too much

Basically nullified our press. And this was first half

It's worst trying for a few games at the very least. Remember that Gareth Bale was binned because he was selfish and self-inflated his own ego beyond repair.

Rashford better get his head out of his ass ASAP because this has happened a few times already when Hojlund was making the required runs for a striker.

It was his first start with Hojlund. Hope his takeaway from this is that he now has a striker who can keep pace with him and can find the back of the net. Always working the opportunity for a shot of his own made sense with Weghorst but that can't be the only way now. Has to look up and make the pass into Hojlund's runs or Garnacho will
