A team that can't play through teams needs a target up front. Rashford is a runner and is best when running into that right half space. I don't blame him today.
I sure as shit blame him today. Dude can't finish to save his life, makes dumb choice after dumb choice, and looks like a lazy player out there and I'm supposed to give that a pass because he's not playing in his favorite position? Dude is leading the line for Manchester united and is getting paid over 300k a week feck that shit he needs to find a way to put away a free chance from right in front of the goal

Non existent really. When he did get the ball he messed it up and never thought I’d say this about him but shot shy even.

Gone back to two seasons ago - sulking, slow to react and running the ball into 3/4 players and losing it.

Won't be too harsh on him given he's being played out of position, a position that accentuates his weaknesses.

Expecting Rashford to play centrally with tight coverage on him every time he's got the ball is pointless. He doesn't maneuver well in tight windows and spaces nor is he good playing with his back to goal, holding off guys. His inconsistent touch will always make sure he gives the ball away more often than not when he receives the ball while a guy is on him let alone multiple guys as he'd often find himself in that situation playing centrally.

Put him back on the left and take advantage of his ability to attack the space, especially in transition, that's his strength. I'm confident Rashford would have made a lot more of the opportunities Garnacho found himself in today while in transition with plenty of space to attack. It's really pointless watching Rashford give the ball away because his initial touch while being pressure from all sides is loose and playing centrally there is not enough space to correct or recover the ball quickly. When pressed behind and surrounded his touch will always be inconsistent, we've known this already. No point forcing it. Play him wide.
If we put him on the left there needs to be made accommodations for his poor pressing. The fact of the matter is that when Rashford plays we need to change our whole system because he's a limited player. All of his pressing is reactive which is worse than no pressing.

His work rate and general effort is proper disgraceful. Not doing him any favours since he's shite up front but thats only an excuse for performance not for a lack of effort

He’s one dimensional, but that single dimension is the team’s only viable attacking outlet, so why not just play him in the one position he excels in?

Play McTominay as a target man to create space for other players, work hard and cause chaos for Rashford and Bruno to thrive in. Ten Hag is the real villain in this situation, with his terrible signings and tactics.

Will only put in effort if played in ideal position. What a player. Bleeds red.

He had one great piece of play in the first half which was enough work for one day.

The 85% will be proven right.

Had one sniff all game when he took the ball off of Antony i think but beyond that did nothing. The team is in big trouble it looks like from front to back.

Better off with garnacho or Antony up the middle if no martial. They have pace and aren’t afraid to shoot early if in a position

We won’t get a good season out of him until 2027 since he signed that 5 year contract.

Would rather have Welbeck leading the line

How can you watch that game and draw that conclusion? Rashford was bad but both of them two seem to be actively looking to be in competition for who can drop the bigger stinker.

I have also noticed this.

Play him up top and his body language says it all - he looks disinterested and he also ducks out of aerial challenges.
As soon as he is switched to the left wing he completely changes and looks to put some effort in.

To sum him up his attitude stinks.

Two disgraceful performances from the face of our football club. 0 effort, 0 application, just trudges around the pitch with minimal effort.

Can't play up top, really shows how much of a luxury role that wide forward thing is. Don't have to take the physical battering of older style CF, don't have to go up and down like the wingers of the past.

Garnacho has the speed and can put the ball on target.. if rashford gets into space and lays the ball off to him at the top of the 18, yeah I think he can put the ball in the back of the net. It’s better than wasting rashford in the center.

Will say it again. He’s never a top player. Too erratic too inconsistent and too pedestrian. Sulks like Ronaldo trots like messi but plays like obertan.

Needs to do better up top, but he's clearly not a striker, and it has showed in the last few games. I mean, this is a player who scored 30 goals for us last season on the left, yet he's been played in a position where he sees very little of the ball and is limited as to what he does with the ball when he gets it. We saw today when he popped up in the wide positions, the kind of moments he can create.

I don’t care who plays up front. He shouldn’t. His best position, where he contributes best to the team, is LW. Stop playing him out of position. I don’t care if Heaton plays up front, Marcus shouldn’t be moved out of his best position.

Can you imagine the reactions if Ole was just loafing about when he was slapped on the wing despite playing striker his entire life?

Just play him on the left ffs. He doesn't want to play as no9, he doesn't know how to play as no9 and he is not a no9.

First half where he didn’t lift it over the keeper?
You mean when he made the run everyone is saying he doesn’t make ?
one chance ball was too close to the keeper and the keeper did well
Anything else even half a chance? Or are strikers only supposed to get 1 chance a game

I never understood why we keep renewing his contract and giving him more money. The guy is soft in many ways.

Its obvious that he's not good up front because of his lack of football intelligence. He can play in only one way and when that way isn't an option he looks poor.

I honestly don't see any reason why he can't play as a striker. He has the pace, height and athleticism but he's just not smart enough to be adaptable if it isn't kick and run or running in behind defences.

I think the question that needs to be asked is do you ever see Rashford putting together a consistently good season? His mid-season run was great last season, but his beginning to the season (pre-World Cup) was ok at best, and his last few months were awful. Can you honestly imagine it being any different in the future?

They are supposed to be able to work off the ball and hold it up to bring others into play, not just run in behind.

I get it that he's not in his favoured position but playing for Utd should be a privilege and I just don't get the vibe off any of our players that their heart and soul is in the club. But hey pay keeps rolling in and contracts keep getting renewed so why fret!

Absolutely. It’s so fecking stupid to use him like this for literally no upside elsewhere. When he gets the service in behind he looks sharp, but it is so few and far between with how dysfunctional the rest of the team is right now. You can play Rashford up top, if – and only if – the team otherwise can control the game and and create chances, allowing Rashford to focus on running in behind. It is pointless asking Rashford to play with his back to goal and act as that fulcrum for progression.

You might as well task Kane to stick wide and hug the touchline, or pepper Salah with long aerial balls as a target man. Both are equally stupid asks of otherwise talented forwards.

This is probably my 20th post about this guy in as many days or even less.

We have made a mistake in giving him a 5 year contract. Last season he was good post the world cup till the Carling cup and then back to being the usual no tracking, non scoring prima Donna attitude on the pitch.

Him, Antony, Garnacho are all to blame for where we are and the sad part is, two out of 3 aren't going to improve much and they are just into their contracts.

some players adapt to changes in their position while others don’t. Plus, the difference between the team Ole played in and this team is huge! We do not have players who unlock defenses, only rashford on the left (and bruno as an attacking midfielder) give us a bit of hope in doing that
