Marcos Rojo | Manchester United Player Pending Medical

If we get Nani with United paying the majority of the wages, i´ll be delighted with this deal. We are in much need of wingers and Nani was class for us (specially in the Champions League). But since this hasn´t been confirmed yet, i´ll be keeping my cool. This sounds too good to be true.

I've not seen Rojo outside the WC but he's a bit of a crazy bastard, genuinely wants to play for us, and will be (like Rafa) a fans favourite in no time I reckon.

Now if we can make Di Maria happen I'll be over the moon. Only Madrid player I thought was better/more influential than him last season was Modrić.

Rojo will probably equal the time Vermaelen is injured being suspended instead....
Are you just trying to find a way to be negative or have you got something to back that up with ie lengthy bans in his career?

Number of times I've seen people say we should have signed Benatia a couple of years ago, before he stepped up a level. And that we should be scouting defenders who look like they could be top players before their values sky rocket, and I agree.

I see this as us doing exactly that. I'd say Rojo has done more aged 24 than a lot of the elite centrebacks about at the moment had at that age. Looking at Kompany, Vidic, Benatia, Hummels, Thiago Silva, Garay... they all stepped up aged 25-28.

Strengthening the weakest part of the area.

As an aside, can imagine anyone the reactions on here when we signed Vidic and Evra?
Everyone was confused as to why we had signed more defenders.

Regarding reactions to transfers in general, as far as I can remember, one looked at signings with much greater mystery then. If we had signed unknown players you'd wonder what they were like and hope they turn out great. Now when such a player is signed the reaction tends to be "haven't heard of him. Must be shit."

I'd be very happy with this. Not the top class signing that's still required elsewhere on the pitch, but a necessary one nonetheless. Don't know why anyone would be disappointed by this.

Has nothing to do with big names and I don't appreciate the condescension. The reason I'm underwhelmed is that from what I've seen of Rojo I wasn't that impressed (granted I've only seen him at the WC, but then again it seems like that's the best he's ever played in his career).
So you've only seen him play in a World Cup eh, not only did his team get to the final but he played a big part in helping them get there, in fact he made it into the Castrol index FIFA team of the tournament. He was also voted the best player in the Argentina team, ahead of Di Maria and someone called Messi.
Yet, you are not impressed by him and feel he is an underwhelming player to have.

He also got big praise from Simeone and Maradona. I guess it´s always like this with signings. Even if you signed Hummels, someone would probably start moaning you pay too much or that he is injury prone. It´s dificult to please a fan base as big as United´s.

He was playing out of position as well.

I'm happy with this.

I've a soft spot for Argie players, they've always been gritty, crazy feckers who end up being fan favourites. I really liked Heinze and Tevez before they turned judas and it was a joy to watch Veron in his element.

Indeed mate, I remember the slating we got when we signed Vidic and Evra. If the player doesn't cost 60m and come with a 'World Class' tag attached then he's instantly deemed not good enough.

Very good analysis. I specially agree with this: "Rojo is affordable, has the talent, and crucially, wants to play for the manager and the club at a time when more illustrious targets are turning their noses up. Such desire is priceless, and should United land their man, the fans may well have a new South American hero to cheer on into thunderous tackles down the left flank."

I wouldn't be surprised to see him play in the middle of the 3, with Blackett/Evans on the left.

I think people are focusing on the fact that both Rojo and Vermaelen were left footed targets, when what they should be focusing on is that they're both aggressive in the air and good at bringing the ball out of defence. Perfect for the central role.

Like i said in previous posts, that fella knows nothing of portuguese football. He basically just recycles the opinion of others. Either it´s Benfica, Porto or Sporting fans. I´d put him on the caf´s twitter black list.

Thanks, that calmed me down a bit. Every time we are linked with top talents around but we end up with some unproven talent hurts.

People will always find reasons to moan
But the same people who are moaning that we have (potentially) signed him, would be moaning about Woodward's incompetence if he didn't manage to sign him. There is an incessant need to have something, anything, to moan about on here.

I think he was very good at the WC.

Some people just like to moan. In the Di Maria thread some are moaning at his price and dont want us to pay that. Who likes to moan will always find a reason.

It's the same with Rojo here.

I'm so desperate for a new signing, I just listened to the radio interview listening out for the words Manchester United. #success
