Not seen any confirmation outside of here?
Hope this is true and he's going to be here soon, though guess he's not likely to be playing on sunday, or could it be that quick? Guess there's a few days left yet.

You do know Woody is handling the transfer right? In all seriousness our defense (and midfiled) need some quality hope this is finalsed in the next couple of days.

So underwhelmed by this transfer. Don't see what we gain from sending Nani on loan, either.

Rojo will make a good signing i'm sure. Its good that he can also play the left wingback role, as IMO James isn't ready yet really.

IF we can get Benatia aswell, and then add Di Maria/Vidal it'll be a much better summer.

I've been waiting for this day for weeks, waking up and seeing a done transfer. In my dreams it was Vidal or Hummels but hey

Hopefully he's a good signing. Slightly underwhelming, but if £16m was the price then great.

I don't see the benefit for Sporting, really. Not only is Nani shit but he'll only be there for a year.

Rojo for DoF with DDG as assistant!

DDG works so hard on our behalf: stalks Spanish players, writes on the ball, tells them how great it is to play for United, tells United how great those Spaniards are, and then we finally sign someone (Mata), or not (Thiago) or a year late (Herrera).

Whereas RED just likes some tweets/follows some of our players and apparently all is done within 2 weeks!

So that means he's fluffed it up somewhere?
I too hope we get him, seems a good addition. I can imagine him turning up to OT for the first time already wearing his own United kit, he really seems to like us.

Well this is almost more shitty than when we got Fellaini! Be prepared for another mediocre season..

I'm in favour of getting rid of Nani, by any means possible. I'm seriously underwhelmed at this transfer though. Rojo was average at best during the World Cup. His defending wasn't great. He was better going forward. In my honest opinion and from what I've seen in the World Cup only, he's not a top player.

I'm not particularly excited about this transfer but then again defenders are seldom exciting transfers. Hopefully we'll see the best from him and he improves his discipline a bit.

But according to DuncanCastles it was due to Woody, that Rojo didn't travel to England?

Strengthening the weakest part of the area.

As an aside, can imagine anyone the reactions on here when we signed Vidic and Evra?

"Was out with my Russian cousin Roman for some bowling and he said Vidic was shit"

Looking forward to see what he can do with us, 24 is still relatively young for a defender and he seems to be tactically flexible at the back, if he can play at high level both CB and LB. It addresses one of our needs, which is good.

Exactly. I think there would have been mass hysteria ("BOO!!! WTF IS SAF SMOKING?! WE NEED WORLD CLASS PLAYERS!!") here over the Vidic/Evra signings given they were similar "no names" in their mid 20s playing in tier 2 leagues.

He's a youngish defender, that can still learn and be moulded by LVG. Has 31 caps for his national side, and played fairly well at the World Cup. Is left footed and can cover at LB for Shaw.

What's not to like? Sure, everyone would like Hummels/Varane, but how often do we sign one of those?

What a clown. He basically just recicles the opinion of other people. He´s as much expert on portuguese football as i am an expert on Vietnamese football.

Are we paying Nani's wages in full? If we are not then there is a benefit from the deal although I do feel like we would be better off selling Nani under value than loaning him.

Has the Nani part been confirmed? Only, if we switch to the 4-3-3, the two positions flanking the striker would ideally be filled by Nani, Januzaj & Welbeck

Players like Young and Valencia, LVG clearly see's as more wing back defensive options, especially Valencia, so I think he could be needed this season.

Don't understand how people are writing him off before he has even played for us, he is young, played well in the world cup and was one of the better players for the world cup finalists. Give the guy a chance at least.

When playing with 3 cb's, aggressiveness is more important than perfect positioning. We need someone who can snuff out danger before it gets anywhere near the goalkeeper.

I can't actually remember Swansea ever getting in behind us on Saturday. Even last season, our Achilles' heel was defending counterattacks rather than poor marking in defence.

What we need, and what Rojo will hopefully provide, is a presence in and around the box who won't allow free runners within 30 yards of goal. How good his positioning is in a defensive pairing won't be as relevant. If he can be a bulldog for us, that'll be good enough.

For those feeling underwhelmed, just rember whilst the current United CB's were sat at home watching the WC Final! Rojo was playing in the WC Final!

Honestly it is a good signing (when it happens) on so many levels.

I have to say, considering Vermaelen went for 15m or so, I think this is a much better deal. LVG clearly wanted that LCB type player.

There is a decent player in Nani somewhere, let's see if he can gain regain his confidence and form back at his homeland, that way we could either get a decent fee for him if we sell him next summer or keep him if LVG thinks he's back to his best. At the moment i don't think we would get much for him.

They were declared shit after their first few games of playing as well.

Oh man the summer that followed that January was so doom and gloom. No Twitter around at that time thankfully. :p

Dunno how Sir Alex did it, but we went on probably our most successful 3/4 year cycle after that.

So nobody got my GTA IV reference?

feck you all.

I agree would rather invest the money in Rojo over Vermaelen who was always a risk regarding his injury record.

He'll be shit at Sporting, not with us, that's what we gain.

As for underwhelmed part I guess you're one of those who just wants big names signing for us.

Has nothing to do with big names and I don't appreciate the condescension. The reason I'm underwhelmed is that from what I've seen of Rojo I wasn't that impressed (granted I've only seen him at the WC, but then again it seems like that's the best he's ever played in his career).

Some of the comments on here....Jeez.

Would you rather see Ashley Young at left back?

We are not stronger in one area of the pitch than last year with Shaw/Rojo, whilst not "exciting" I think this is a much needed signing.

Put it this way, he is better than Buttner.
