Marcos Rojo | Manchester United Player Pending Medical

He's just started following Cuadrado on Instagram :wenger:

To be fair, he looked decent at the WC. Admittedly haven't seen anything more of him. Still, given our lack of numbers, I won't be complaining.

Van Gaal will definitely need to eliminate his rash decision making and indiscipline, but I'm sure he will. From what Sly said on here, he's quick, strong, good on the ball, and a left footed versatile center back who is good in big games. He's still young so needs to improve on his marking and things like that, but Van Gaal is the type of manager who can get improve him.
The biggest positive is that he's not an injury prone player so he will be a constant at left center back for us, be it in a back 4 or back 5.

If he becomes a United player, especially a defender, he probably will become injury prone =[

Januzaj will make himself a first 11 player this season, and if we get Di Maria (big if) it's not a bad set of first choice wingers. The back-up options are of more questionable quality though.
I thought we're after Di Maria to play him in midfield, like he was used last season?

Pretty content with Rojo, especially as a left back together with Shaw for the next two years. Don't know how I feel about Cuadrado coming in, it's all very confusing.
Cuadrado would be fecking awesome as a right wing back going by the 2 YouTube clips I saw.

It is also important to move on the dead wood, getting rid of them is proving a very difficult task so this transfer ticks more than one box.

Interesting signing, and considering the current market his transfer fee is fairly cheap for a full international.

Is it correct to say this signing is more suited to a back 3 or is he equally as comfortable in a back 2?

I think he would be more suited to a back 3 and been signed for that purpose but i haven't seen enough anyway.

We are in very short numbers at lb,wing back,,,thats the only position ive seen him play,,,so i think thats where we will see him initially.

Van Gaal needs a left footed centre back to make the system work. That's where he'll play.

Still need at least another centre back. Preferably world class or thereabouts.

Does this mean our interest in benatia is over?

Maybe. Maybe not.

It could be that we always wanted two Cbs. One a left footer who can cover LB too (Vermaelen/Rojo) and the other a experienced top quality CB to be our main guy (Hummels/Benatia).

That's what I'm hoping anyway. Rojo on his own will boost our numbers but it doesn't seem like he'll boost our quality to any great extent.

Look, nobody is saying Rojo will be an outstanding player. I mean we probably wanted the perma-crock Vermaelen over him, which says a lot.

Still, we desperately need numbers at the back and he fits a lot of what we need (left footed CB, can also cover LB) and is obtainable with just two weeks left in the window.

Nothing like an ideal signing but probably necessary.
feck.

Was busy at work and wasn´t following the Rojo affair, is this a done deal? There´s nothing on the portuguese sport papers sites

Apparently it's done.

Would you say Rojo would instantly become our best centre back if he joined? Smalling is probably our best defender at the moment.

Also good to have a nutter. Our team is too soft these days.

True and there's no point in us doing things in halves either. If we're going to do it at all, go the whole hog and get an Argentinian nutter!

I can't say I've seen anything of him at all until the WC where he looked impressive and played a big part in what was a very tight defence so I'm looking forward to seeing him line out for us and seeing how he fairs out now.

I still prefer Rojo tbf, on the basis that he's at least capable of staying fit for an extended period of time. That in itself makes him a more worthwhile signing than Vermaelen, regardless of his actual quality.

Can´t say that because the Premier League is much more demanding. Smalling doesn´t impress me but i´m a fan of Johny Evans (was excellent for Northern Ireland against Portugal at our Home game), can´t say he´s better than him since Evans is already proven in your league. What i can say is that i think Rojo will become a fan favourite if Van Gaal can correct his positional errors and instill much needed discipline in his game. Before the whole refusing to train affair, Rojo was one of my favourites because he always gives everything for the team. Will be curious to see how he evolves under Van Gaal.

The best nutters to get.

Sounds like a plan C at best if not a panic buy (especially considering the fee)

I don't rate him higher than de Vrij, but he's left footed

Maybe, I think his versatility is a key point though. He's essentially a master of two roles.

I can't really see him, Herrera and Mata playing in a midfield three though, so I suspect that he'll be a winger. Or alternatively Mata will be shifted out wide in a possible 4-3-3. It all depends on what shape LvG want for the midfield. If Di Maria plays there it will be a more traditional shape with Herrera and Di Maria flanking an anchor (Carrick, presumably), but with Mata there it will look more like what you'd expect from the midfield 3 in a 4-2-3-1 (like the Dutch in the World Cup when they switched to 4-3-3).
