Van Gaal will definitely need to eliminate his rash decision making and indiscipline, but I'm sure he will. From what Sly said on here, he's quick, strong, good on the ball, and a left footed versatile center back who is good in big games. He's still young so needs to improve on his marking and things like that, but Van Gaal is the type of manager who can get improve him.
The biggest positive is that he's not an injury prone player so he will be a constant at left center back for us, be it in a back 4 or back 5.

Yeah from what i saw of him last year i agree Shaw will be great.

I meant in the meantime.
I hope this guy can become a proper centre back. I think shaw bass on what I saw last seasons is ready to start for us week in week out. 15-20 million for a backup left back/left wing back seems pointless.

I think he'll do well for us. I'm all for Nani being chucked out as part of it if true.

Let's look at it this way.

He kicked up a fuss to join us. He clearly was desperate to join us otherwise he wouldn't have burnt the bridges the way he did at Sporting.
He had a very good WC, and hopefully he can carry on that form with us.
Van Gaal clearly is a fan otherwise we wouldn't have signed him because he really is Van Gaal's first signing. He even faced the Netherlands in the WC.
He offers us options at LCB, LB and LWB. Versatility is key.

He may not set the world alight, but I reckon he'll be a good signing for us.

That Sport Witness article is quite clearly written by that Jan Hagen fella, i.e. some random aspiring writer of mediocre talent who watches Portuguese football from 2000 miles away. If you want a Norwegian twitter hero's take on Rojo, go with the only one who isn't talking out of his ass; Tor-Kristian Karlsen. And he rates him.

This is exactly what I thought reading it. Tor-Kristian Karlsen knows his stuff.

We are in very short numbers at lb,wing back,,,thats the only position ive seen him play,,,so i think thats where we will see him initially.

Some lads have pointed out that LvG would get the best out of him and I do admit that his World Cup form was quite good, good enough to be in the tournament XI. Perhaps im being too pessimistic because we've missed out on better players. Still would rather have him than Vermaelen so I guess theres nothing to do but hope for the best.

Damn I can't watch Portuguese foot here in the States anymore, only if I go to a damn Portuguese cafe or restaurant so I'm guessing he can watch all the games on his tele

if he really watches the games

So, how good is he on the ball? Can he come out and distribute from defence almost like an extra midfielder? That's what would be perfect for LVG's system.

Do I need to post Rojo's SS from Football Manager? That guy is a beast, don't you dare to argue!

Always nice to have a defender in your squad who likes a nice little 'Rabona' from time to time when defending and who is a certified babyfaced nutjob. Him and Phil Jones would make for the most hilarious after match picture threads known to mankind.

Fair enough. 15 million for a guy who can play two defensive positions is something we can definitely do with. I liked him at left back for Argentina to be fair. He looked strong, quick, and a fighter. Just hoping he's go the talent to become a starter maybe at centre back.

I haven't seen him apart form the WC, but from everything I have read on him he just simply doesn't seem to be good enough for us and we don't need more average players at this team. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong though and he'll come up big for us.

Doesn't loaning Nani remove the option of playing 4-3-3? At least with our current injuries. Di Maria.

A guy that plays for the Argentine national team at left back/centre back is hardly average is he?
Stop fannying about already.
I think he's going to be good for us. Also I love nutjobs like him. The fecker has even tattoed his tighs.

Our team is going to look younger and younger by the day.

Nani is not an option in any formation worth considering. Getting rid just frees up a place at the lunch table in Carington, nothing more.

All it removes is a player that isn't good enough.
Yep, Nani's quite shit these days. The only thing that bothers me about this transfer is that we're still going to be paying all of his wages.

Januzaj will make himself a first 11 player this season, and if we get Di Maria (big if) it's not a bad set of first choice wingers. The back-up options are of more questionable quality though.

In a 4-3-3 he was probably our best winger apart from Januzaj. But I won't go there now.

That's because of the poor quality of his competitors, not because Nani is any good himself.

Interesting signing, and considering the current market his transfer fee is fairly cheap for a full international.

Is it correct to say this signing is more suited to a back 3 or is he equally as comfortable in a back 2?
