Surprised we haven't moved it on today. Well, not surprised but you know what I mean.

Well.

Club president Bruno de Carvalho told Sporting TV: “They are subject to disciplinary action, but they are not in the B team.

“Both players took decisions that have provoked strong, internal disciplinary action.

“A general note: Any player who does not follow the rules of the club, these two or any others, they can do what they want, but it only complicates the issue.

“Don’t use the press, be professionals. These players are subject to strong disciplinary measures.

“They can’t play on Saturday, if they want they can watch the game at home.

“We’ll see, it could delay things a lot, it could drag things out a lot, but on Saturday it will not be resolved.”

De Carvalho has also been quick to point out that sales are not guaranteed this summer, with it possible that the situation with Rojo and Slimani ‘could end with them seeing out their three-year contracts’.

It could take a while even after this transfer looked like it would happen really fast with our bid and a transfer request following right after it.

Sporting are holding out because they will only get 5m from this transfer as things stand.

We'll see if it's over the top. He's been criminally misused so far. I don't expect that to continue under LVG.
I highly rate Smalling as well but saying it'd be great if a player is "anywhere near as good" as him is a bit of an overstatement

Everything on this broke late yesterday, keep the faith. Yesterday's tomorrow isn't done yet.

And even it does, no worries, there's always tomorrow

Then the next day, then the day after that. Before we know it it'll be deadline day and we haven't added to the squad and at this rate with no real concrete evidence I can't see any deals being close.

The rumblings are growing louder though. And surely what broke with Rojo so far is concrete evidence? Sporting might try to play hardball but they won't hold out forever. This one is happening. It's the other deals we might have to worry about.

But hey, we tend to leave it late in matches - why should our transfer dealings be any different? :)

Never seen much of him for Sporting but have watched plenty of Argentina over the years and have always liked him as a player. It's a lot of money but we need defenders, he will suit playing out from the back, he is comfortable in different systems and is a real fighter, something we really need.

At him refusing to train, two ways to look at it, yes it's unprofessional but on the other hand, we can see it as him having his heart set on a move to United which is a good thing. Either way, I hope something gets sorted soon, especially with Shaw out for a month or so.

I thought we had a good relationship with Sporting, actions like this just screw things up and causes bad blood. Just imagine if he is with us and then Barca decided he would be good for them. Just don't get latino culture and I live with and employ them.

This is more complex because of Third Party ownership which has 75% stake and whatever clauses etc..

It's not really only between Sporting and Us. But more between Doyen and Sporting right now.

I don't get why a player would think it's a good idea to skip training to try and force a move through. Shows awful attitude and could potentially put the buying club off?

I mean it obviously puts pressure on the club to sell cause they don't want an unsettled player on their hands, but there must be more professional ways of going about it?

No idea if he's done this as well, but he should make contact with United tell them he's desperate for the move, he's not a big market player so it's not like he's hurting his wage demands by much, anything he earns here will be miles higher than sporting. Hand in a transfer request and let united handle it from there. There's no need to go all schneiderlin about this.

Third time lucky?

That was Tevez. :nervous:

Heinze was one Argie; who was the other?

Doh! Of course. fecks my theory up then.

Ya, we're on number 4. And as I recall, aside from Veron, Heinze and Tevez through Rojo style fits with us to get away as well. If LVG wants him then lets get him, but can we please have a decent plan B for when he sulks because he wants to leave.

I loved Heinze and Tevez when they were here to be honest. I forgive Heinze now too, he says the way he left us is the biggest regret of his career and apologised to the fans and sir alex. There does seem to be somewhat of an Argie trait of hard working, passionate players (who can also be real cnuts), and Rojo seems to fit that mould. If we can get a couple of years of performances that make him a fan favourite then that'll be grand. The only way he'd be leaving is if he wasn't first choice or if he became a true world beater and madrid/barca came calling, right now i'd take that.

No.

Fonte played okay in a well organised team with Lovren standing out and being protected by Schneiderlin

Smalling played well as a CB in the middle of a shitstorm of disorganisation

This is correct. Anything to the contrary is bullshit that espouses from the grass is greener wankers that tend to identify weaknesses of players at top clubs yet glide over them with players playing at weaker clubs with little expectation.

When Smalling played at centre half last season he was good. I refuse to allow media narrative to conflict with the truth.

For what it's worth, I hope Rojo is good, but he's demonstrated nothing on the European stage to demonstrate he's a better defender than Smalling. The latter has excelled in a Champions League semi final. But this is a Manchester United forum, whereby many of those that post can only look to highlight negatives, while inflating the casual shit elsewhere in the world; casual shit that usually just fails when the big move arrives.

A fair stance; I generally agree too.

Starting to have doubts this guy is the right players for us. Sure he might have the skills required on the pitch (don't know if he does or not as haven't followed him), but the whole skipping training to force a move stuff doesn't strike me as the type of player mentality that we want around the club. I could see him eventually causing potential problems down the track for us if we do sign him

Im not sure its as simple as he has a bad mentality. There are rumblings he was promised a 15m euro release clause or something by the old president, and after he was replaced the new guys basically vetoed it and wants the absolute full amount. i personally like the fact hes desperate to come here.

I wasn't aware of that, and I got to admit I would be pissed in that situation, so can see some of the reasoning I guess. Still have some doubts, but I'm sure they will go away quickly if he shows a good attitude if we sign him.

Yeh, I agree the fact he wants to come here so badly is a nice change.

Tend to agree. Plus these 3rd party ownership deals are as dodgy as the rest of the Argentine economy and make it much more complicated for a player to get the move he wants.

I love it when players mention that they had a "promise" about something, you hear it all the time. How about getting that in writing before signing the contract. He should be firing his agent before taking it out on the club.

Didn't Berba do something similar to force a move?

We are slating this guy for refusing to train but it might be because Sporting are blocking a transfer that should have been completed by now. Going on a strike of sorts is totally understandable if Sporting are not willing to keep promises they gave the player (since we are not certain if there is such a clause in his contract).

Saha at least threatened to stop training to force his move. Whether he went through with it I dont remember, but it didnt impress me at the time. So we've had players who have done similar to ensure they move here

As we saw with Suarez it's possible that the "promise" actually is in the contract but the club still decides to ignore it.

Fans are one grumpy lot aren't we? So we blame Vidal for not doing enough to kickstart a deal for us and yet we also blame Rojo for doing his out most to get this deal going. Its all a matter of damned if you do and damned if you don't
