It's actually becoming fun watching him defend now, I like his desire and drive to win the ball, he has a no nonsense attitude and it's making me turn around my opinion on him.

It'd be interesting to see how a partnership with bailly would go.

He was generally good at centre half under Van Gaal. He and Smalling had lots of good games in that first season.

Rojo better than Smalling? Can I have some of what you're smoking

Even though I think of him as completely shit now, he still surprises me with just how terrible he exactly is. Much rather have Darmian at LB than this fraud.

Thankfully, it seems Jose doesn't rate him too much. 3rd choice CB and 4th choice CB at the moment. Let's hope he never plays in the PL again this season.

Making me look like the clueless feck I am.

He's been very decent since his move to LCB. Let's hope he never goes to LB again.

Bloody hell you've gone a bit overboard.

That's the same shit everyone used to say about Smalling!! I'm so glad Rojo's finally shutting up the haters on here you wanted him gone. Hope it lasts. Paddy Evra had a slow start when he joined United and look what a player he turned out to be. I hope Rojo develops in the same way. Can't wait for Bailly to come back.

nah, don't be hard on yourself, he was absolutely useless under LVG, and not just at LB but at CB, I'd say 98% of United fans wanted him out. This rise in performance was completely unexpected, one of the most random nonsensical things I've ever seen in football. Still though early days, can he keep this up?

Might have to eat a massive slice of humble pie as Rojo is actually doing decently. Never thought I'd see the day. Looking like a adequate CB but let's never do the left back thing again.

He's our best CB in my opinion. All of a sudden, we're playing well and he's in the side... not a coincidence. He had some great moments tonight too but the one thing I like about him is that he plays with passion and fire in him. He's got the United mentality and he just wants to win.

Let's not get too carried away. He is in great form ATM but he ain't our best CB.

Then who is?

Smalling? Liability, not in the team. Probably getting sold in January.
Jones? Not a chance. He's only looking good cause Rojo is picking up the pieces for him.
Blind? Not a natural CB.
Bailly? Jury is still out but he looks good so far. Too soon to call him our best CB.

Rojo and Bailly is clearly the obvious pairing going forward. Unless we buy a big CB like Bonucci or Thiago Silva.

He's had 5 good performances after a dreadful season and he's suddenly the best? Nope, he's not.

Bailly, Smalling and Jones showed more.

He said it best: Rojo is red

People on here just never learn. A few decent games and the ridiculous hyping of average players begins. Happened with Chris 'best defender in England' Smalling and now it's happening with Rojo. He's had about 3 decent consecutive games ffs.

You're wrong. Jones hasn't shown anything since signing for us. He's been a constant liability and spent most of his time in the hospital.

Smalling is a donkey and his shirt pulling and poor marking/positioning is the reason he's not in the side right now. Cost us the game against Chelsea and hasn't been trusted since. Rojo never had a "dreadful" season. He was doing a job at LB but he was never "dreadful"

I find it funny that people still think Jones and Smalling are good enough to wear the red shirt. I thought we wanted to win trophies? We should be praying some team takes them off our hands. We signed them hoping they would be the next Rio/Vidic, but they haven't even come close.

what happend to him?
very solid yet again.

Nothing, he was good before his injury against City during his first season and after that he has been mainly used as a fullback; and he is a dreadful fullback.

Another one of LVG's "exotic football" experimentations, like 352 with RVP, Rooney and Falcao or Jones on corner duties

Not gonna lie, I wouldnt have cared one bit if he was sold before the season started. And his performances as LB were annoying AF. But then a lot of us forgot to take into consideration how would Vidic have looked if Fergie had played him LB or RB?

Guy has been rock solid and brings a nice balance to the left side of our CBs. He was always decent at CB when used there by LVG. But the use of him as LB seemed to happen more often than not which made him seem like a donkey which was unfair to him.

Sunday will be the first real test for him and Jones.

I know Arsenal was a test. But I think Old Trafford at times you can get away with it even against big teams.

Away at Goodison with a hostile atmosphere and a big physical striker is a test for Jones and Rojo. Away from home will determine how good this partnership could be.

Yeah agree. This will be their first proper test since playing together imo. The cover in front of them will be important so hopefully it'll be a 3 man midfield with Pogba replacing Rooney.

Rojo was very very good today. I liked his steely determination to defend and not rest up. It was Smalling-esque.

Aggressive, no nonsense type being played in his natural position.
He's scrambled back to cover a few potential goal threats in last few games when others have gone missing. Showing desire and pace.

I still think Bailly is our first choice given the outstanding form he showed prior to injury, but if he and Rojo can gel that would be a very imposing presence and one most prem strikers will struggle against.

The same was said for McNair and Blind who've both managed to deal with Lukaku pretty easily in the past, didn't mean too much then.

At home.

Away from home with McNair we lost 3-0 at Goodison.

I recall Lukaku missing about 5 good chances in the semi final last season.

He is putting his best out there. Still maintained that he still lacks the cut to be considered reliable starter or long term contender for us. As I said before he's like the Ashley Young of defender. On his day, he's very good and all but has flaw. On regularly he's pointless. But his commitment and desire may be a good asset as squad member in case he is kept motivated.

Beast mode on for Rojo. Can't wait to see him and Bailly in defense. Love what Mou has done with him and Jones. Definitely Smalling is down the CB ladder, this after he had one of the most successful seasons in a United shirt. Rojo and Jones probably have adapted well to Mou style of play than LVG.

Probably getting sold in January

You can't believe this surely, even if you don't rate the player. Seriously. Why would Mourinho sell Smalling and in the middle of the season? Smalling had one terrible game this season against Chelsea while injured. He's not in the side because he's injured, not because he's not being selected.

Rojo is playing very well currently and long may it continue. Good to know we have dependable cover players at the back. Lets see who plays when all are fit. My money is on Bailly and Smalling. I'll be surprised actually if United sell any CBs this January unless the Fonte links materialize. I simply don't see Mourinho selling his tallest CB

Jones never did anything good since he signed for us?

Here is where all discussion ends.

Agree with the above. I am really happy though that Rojo is playing well. Hopefully it's because there is no drama in his private life.

Keep up the good work lad.

He's been very good at CB. Loved how he charged towards their wingers to tackle them, could see them half shit themselves and just allow him to kick it out.

Bailly comes straight back into the team, but it's going to be difficult to drop either Rojo or Jones.

You want to see both Rojo and Jones, both who I would say have shown us finally what they are capable of over the past few games, put in equally good, if not even better performances against 2 or 3 of the top 5 teams to give us some hope that CB area along with Bailly might in fact be covered for now. Rojo certainly seems to play better in his preferred position that's for sure.

Solid performances but I think more than anywhere else on the pitch that position is about partnerships and maybe Jones suits him. I actually think Jones is the most natural leader at CB and it will be down to who either plays best with him (if he stays fit) or we will buy someone else in that leadership commanding role....
