Like Suarez signed a new contract and left for 80M few months after… If think that Reus will be more about 50/60M this summer, allowing few clubs to buy him (Madrid, Chelsea and us) … Nice job from Dortmund.

Happy for Dortmund! At the very least it means they get a better price for a player of his calibre. 25m Euros would have been ridiculous. Hopefully they go on a good run of form. It's nice to see a player stick with a club even when they're in horrible form *cough* Vidic.

Suarez signed a contract with a release clause.

I think it is to ensure that Dortmund get a larger fee than his release clause should he be sold in the summer. We did it with Ronaldo, Liverpool did it with Suarez.

Suarez signed a contract with a release clause.

I thought it was the same scenario?

Suarez = £40,000,000 release clause - signs new deal to remove clause and move for a better fee.
Reus = £25m release clause - signs new contract to remove clause and potentially move for a better fee.

Suarez didn't remove the clause, it was just increased. Not sure on Rues.

Dortmund published an official ad hoc announcement after the new contract was signed in which they stated that no player in the squad has a release clause anymore. I highly doubt they'd deliberately lie to their shareholders. Reus doesn't have a release clause anymore and won't leave the club anytime soon.

This is actually good news, I hope they keep Hummels too tbh, I reckon they will.

Awesome. Brilliant for the club and for the league.

Especially for the league. Will be funny to see how the team will be a team when one of them earns shitloads of money and the others do not...

It was sure "Echte Liebe"... Just why didn't he sign months ago and not after e.g. Bayern did not want him, Real is stacked, Barcelona can't etc.

What was it increased to? How come it took so long to negotiate?

I think it was £75m, Barca didn't want to pay that.
When the deal was done, the BBC actually reported Barca paid the clause, but in Spain they we're reporting differently.

Very good from Reus and excellent news for BVB. Delighted that even in today's game, a player shows loyalty especially when the club is going through a difficult time. Massive respect for the player. Also really happy that Real won't be getting another top talent on the cheap while shifting equally good players on for stupid fees just because Perez gets bored at the start of every season.

I'd be very surprised if we don't hear soon that Reus also signed a new longterm deal with Puma for a shitload of money. His actual salary at Dortmund won't be that crazy and Dortmund's overall wage bill will rise anyway, it's not like Hummels and Gündogan are playing for peanuts at the moment. Can't see Reus' contract causing massive problems, especially because Dortmund will happily offer new contracts to the rest of the important players as well.

Never expected that to happen, especially not in their currently crisis. Respect for BVB and Reus!

I am really glad for them.

And still i can repeat... You just hate BVB... Everyone is happy for them right now and you are spitting on them again.

Good move by Reus, as a show of loyalty, which is quite rare in modern day football.

Even if it just to look after Dortmund's financial interest in the medium/long run, when/if he does eventually move on.

Also, will give the club and fans a boost at just about the right time to ensure their survival in the Bundesliga.

Still think he's a bit soft for the Premier League, surprised he's signed a contract extension, no doubt it's to earn Dortmund more dollar, but I still admire him for it.

Why should everybody be happy for them... - I actually think it is funny.

It just shows that "Real love" is buyable and it costs shitloads of money.

Reus went back into talks with Dortmund after months without talks when he saw the best options for a transfer rush away. The EPL - with Kagawa, Schürrle and Özil he saw some that struggled. Real has Bale and CR7, Bayern did not really seem very eager (and there is no guaranteed starting place and he sees Lewa and Götze struggling), Barcelona can't (and does not offer a guaranteed starting place either). And Dortmund offered a shitload of money + probably a new bigger contract with Puma.

But if you want to sell that as "loyality" and real love - you sure can...

It's quite funny how blinded by hate you are. €8m p.a. (which is what Dortmund will supposedly pay) is certainly not a shitload of money for a player like Reus, especially with such a low release clause.
Saying that someone ruled out an entire league because 3 players didn't do too well there is fecking ridiculous. Özil is a completely different type of player. The other two aren't copies of him either and frankly he's a level above them.
It's quite the opposite actually, with the PL's lack of pressing and the explosiveness and pace of Reus the league would probably suit him quite well.

Meh, he was never coming to us anyway. He'll be at Barca/Real in a few years time.

Great news. Still think it's very much possible he'll leave this summer, but then Dortmund would at least get the money they deserve for the brilliant player they have. As long as they don't relegate that is, but I don't think that's going to happen.

And suddenly the ultimate horror scenario of Real offloading Bale to us for huge money while signing Reus, who is just as good, for only 25 million becomes very unlikely. Although it becomes much more unlikely that we sign Reus too.

@Henrik Larsson
I don't think they would've sold it this way if he intended to leave in the summer - not with the whole Götze drama and his family still living in Dortmund.

Then Reus' agency would be stupid - and they for sure are not. Because that would mean less money for Reus. The lower transfer sum usually guarantees bigger wage and hand money for the player.

He might have wanted Dortmund to be compensated accordingly rather than pocket a few million more, out of loyalty. Think he'll stay at Dortmund for the rest of his career now personally.

Would you say his agents a bit scummy and only interested in money, they're also Toni Kroos's agent I think?

I just read a quote on the other page saying there was no release clause in his new contract, don't know if that's true but since they said it was Kicker. They could've made a deal where Reus gets a % of the transfer fee.

@do.ob Ah ok I see, that gives some good context. I thought they maybe just wanted to give some positive vibes because they're performing so poor at the moment, and then evaluate what's best at the summer.

the source is this:
Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA ("Borussia Dortmund") and its player Marco Reus extend their employment contract as professional football player that originally was due to expire on 30th June 2017 preliminary and as of today until 30th June 2019.

Thus, no player employment contract of Borussia Dortmund anymore contains an option of a player to preliminary terminate his contract for the event of a transfer to a third football club (so called "exit clause").

An ad-hoc message from the club itself.

Great news for dortmund, huge respect for Reus for this as well. He might still leave for a higher price in the summer if they had a little agreement, but regardless, you won't see many players do that when the team is bottom of the league after more then.half the season and you have every team in the world after you.
