Only Hummels really deserves to be at his pay level, and Gundogan if he's healthy. Nobody else has really dominated 2 seasons in a row on that team, except maybe Pisczeck and he's a fullback and often hurt and would take less.

Its to get rid of the buyout clause and create a bidding war IMO.

What does the player have from this?
With the release clause he has everything in his own hands - and with a low transfer sum he can ask for a much bigger bonus payment and higher wages.

@Sean_RedDevil
We guess that he waited for the right offers but he did not get them. The english teams aren't really big in Europe right now and apart from Chelsea (where his friend Schürrle did not fair well and where Hazard plays on his position) no club has really that big title guarantee. Barcelona cannot and Real is packed - and with the later the chance is big that he will be a bench warmer.

And Bayern - believe what you want. For me the style of Reus does not match to Bayern - he excels with space that you seldom get in Bayern matches. But whereas BILD reported that Bayern did not want him - there is Dortmund fans and some Dortmund press people that tell that Reus rejected Bayern.

It is not just the wage - it looks like Opel and Puma add extra money to that contract with new sponsoring contracts for Reus.

Dortmund has been around #10 amongst European clubs in revenue for a few years now. Doesn´t the Bundesliga also enter a new TV deal. Get a few sponsoring contracts, who are more interested in him being a superstar for Dortmund than sitting on the bench in Spain and you got a smart decision for both sides.

Agree with this. Its being said that this has been done to get Dortmund a higher fee for his sale, but this would cost Reus personally, both financially and with his options.

What its does mean to United is that, if they do sell him, we are in a better position to buy him. It will cost us considerably more, but I think many clubs will baulk at the new asking price. I doubt United would.

I don't believe for a second the stays at Dortmund just for the love......
A) He wouldn't stay for the same money like in his old contract.
B) If he loves the club so much then he doesn't need a buyout-clause at first place
C) IMO Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barca (Because of their ban) aren't so much interested in him for next season.....but probably for the summer of 2016

Would be interesting to hear the real thoughts of Dortmund's players about this.
That's a massive gap between Reus and the other players.

Never got that blame. Players have to make as much money as they can for themselves and their familiy.
We all would do that.
And I was shocked to learn about how many have financial troubles after their careers.
It´s not only because of his BVB love, sure.
But no one believes that(over the age of 10).
But he is a fan since his early childhood. And Dortmund is still a very big club, especially in Germany.
And in relation to other clubs; he could have waited till the summer to wait for bids and needs.

I really like his move. Great for Dortmund and the league.
One of the very best players(you could argue that he is the Bundesliga MVP between 2011 and 2014) around commits to both.
The other Dortmund players know about his stats(93 minutes for a scorer in his Dortmund career) and his importance. They will take it well enough.
Thumps up from me.

I imagine it will be Hummels if anyone who they cash in on in summer. They won't let both go unless relegation dictates so. I think we can forget Reus for now.

Given how many decent central defenders they have it would seem logical to let hummles (or subotic) go if a big bid is made and I guess hummles is likely to attract the largest offer (potentially from us?)

I'm not sure why people are happy? Its one thing to admire player loyalty but this negatively affects us. Reus could have been a potential world class signing for us on a low transfer fee.

You do know this means we have more chance to sign him than if he would have had the £25m release clause right ?

Not saying we'll sign him, I think it is very unlikely Dortmund will accept any offers for him and I even doubt he'll want to move unless Dortmund actually gets relegated but if he had the release clause than without a doubt a topclub like Real, Bayern would have stepped in for him and we would have been chanceless. If we'd really want Reus we could offer an insane amount of money for him and take all (or most) of the other clubs out of the equasion. We can currently outbid almost any team due to FFP and the serious increase in our revenues. In fact only Real can match and would match our spending power but the question is whether they would go crazy over Reus considering they have Bale and Ronaldo.

Now again I don't think we'll sign him, I doubt we'd even make an offer but chances of us ending up with Reus when he had the release clause were 0.00%, now there is atleast some chance although I still think it will defiantly not happen.

Hopefully this wasn't just to bump up the price and he's actually going to stay at the club.

He's such a brilliant player. Still my muppet signing even though he's signed a new contract. Well worth anything around £45m.

Blind
Herrera - Di Maria
Depay - Rooney - Reus

He won't be staying at Dortmund will he? Klopp gone, Hummels probably gone, add that onto everyone else that has left.

Long term your absolutely correct. the exodus started a couple of years back, however dortmund wont be selling 2-3 core players this summer. they will slowly phase the ones that want out, out, not in one massive shipment, it would create too much instability.

But wouldn't Reus be one of those? He isn't going to want to stay if he can't win anything. Plus he knows there would be offers for him to play at other clubs.

Read some article before saying its a common thing for many sportsperson to get bankrupt after they retired. Many reason is do with their luxurious lifestyle result from earning big contract at very young age and lack of brain and financial management skills to handle their wealth.

Madrid and Borussia are BBF. My bet is that he will play in Madrid next year.I don't think that the new contract is too important to avoid the exit

Reus leaving doesn't seem likely at all. He made it very clear that this extension wasn't just signed so Dortmund could get a higher fee and after he saw what happened to his buddy Götze I don't think he would put himself in the same situation, without the need to.
But what's probably even more important is that Dortmund have no reason to sell him. Their finances are rock solid, they already lost one key (at least in his old form) player in Gündogan, if they were to sell another star things point in the direction of Hummels and even if you ignore all that, this summer would be a terrible moment to sell Reus, because with their new coach and lack of CL football they most likely won't be able to sign a great replacement and instead would have to spend the money on heavily overpriced good-ish players or bank it.

I agree with this. Any idea where Gundogan is heading?

Not really. I mean WAZ aren't usually storytellers afaik, so their claim probably wasn't completely made up. Other reports link him with Bayern, which would make sense in a way since Alonso is past it at the highest level and Schweinsteiger's body seems to be failing him. On the other hand this would probably be a big risk for Gündogan and Bayern might rather go for someone who hasn't been injured or out of form for 2 years now.
The only definite thing seems to be that he won't go to Wolfsburg since their DoF (Allofs) and Gündogan himself ruled that out rather eplicitly.

cheers!

Must be annoyed at signing a new deal. Surely if he knew Klopp, Gundogan and probably Hummels were going in the summer he wouldn't have re-signed.

Well only himself to blame. The whole world and his agent seen this coming lol.

Can we throw some of our big fat war chest at him?

Woody will double his wages. No problem.
