Marco Reus

Why the hard-on for Bale? He's a left winger until further notice and that's the attacking position we currently need the least in reinforcing right now (ADM can play there if required). The situation is different on the right wing where Reus would fit both our needs (right-footed) and our bill perfectly.

Except Bale mostly plays on the right these days.

I still don't understand why people think we are going to play 4-3-3.

We have 4 strikers. 4-3-3 has one striker spot.

We have no wingers. 4-3-3 has 2 winger spots.

We are in transition and van Gaal might be more forced to play this formation than he actually likes and wants to. After all he changed the Netherland's formation after Strootman got injured, so it wasn't what he initially wanted and I doubt he wants us to play like this for a prolonged period of time.

Bale hasn't played on the left for two seasons. He plays on the right and operates in pretty much the same fashion as Robben, cutting in, linking with the striker and scoring goals.

And he adds real pace and power and scores more than 1 goal every other game. Better than most strikers.
What about Ronaldo?

He adds real pace and power and scores more than 1 goal every game. Better than any strikers.

I guess you just didn't believe me when I replied to your other post which said the same thing? Bale doesn't play on the left. Reus does play on the left. Both can play left and right if needed.

Well, excuse me for not being very enthusiastic at the idea of playing wingers on the side that is opposite to their stronger foot too. Although he's doing a decent job these days, Ashley Young has been a prime example of what can go wrong when a right-footed winger plays on the left or vice-versa. We already have many quality lefties, including the natural winger that is Di Maria. However, we don't have many quality righties who meet the standards we want to reach. Furthermore, I thought LVG hates it when righties don't play on the right and when lefties don't play on the left.

What leaves a bad taste in the mouth about Bale is that he refused the opportunity of joining United either by signing for Madrid or staying at Spurs in the past. Furthermore, why would Madrid go after Reus and sell Bale (virtually a cult hero to the Real fans) when the current Madrid team is exactly better than what Ancelotti hoped for? Do they ever stick with the same players when nothing needs to be fixed?

If they did sign reus and moved Ronaldo to striker then I wouldn't mind us putting in a cheeky bid for benzema I really rate him and he seems to have a love hate relationship with the Real fans. I mean if real end up with

Ronaldo
Bale
Reus
H-amez Rodriguez
Benzema
Jese
Isco

Then one of them will have to leave I think it'll be benzema tbh

The only problem is that Bale is more comfortable on the right, he likes to run inside, pass through balls and shot. He is more an inside forward than a Winger.

So you don't want Bale because you don't like wingers who play on the opposite side to their predominant foot? That makes more sense now, thanks. I personally think he's best in a free role but anyway, it's all besides the point as I doubt they'd sell him.

I don't think Bale has ever had the chance to refuse United, to be honest, if that is one of the reasons you don't want him here. We'd be absolutely mental to turn down the chance to sign him if it ever happens, in my opinion.

I think it would be Isco. Ancelotti loves Benzema.

If Madrid bought Reus it wouldn't be to play him week in week out unconditionally. He would have to fight for his spot there and might end up as a back up to James, Bale and Ronaldo. As much as I rate Reus I don't think he is good enough to play for Madrid at the minute given the fact they have the best selection of wingers/forwards who operate in free roles I have ever seen and it's the role he excels in.

Bayern would be a good move. Likewise Chelsea and City. There are about 5-6 teams in Europe that can afford Reus and need him, us and Arsenal included. Maybe Liverpool too though I'm not sure about the afford part. Barca were pretty sweet on him but with Suarez move and transfer ban they won't come near.

Most teams play with inverted wide men these days, they are a source of goals and link up with the striker. The crossing is left to the fullbacks.

Has to pay 540.000 EUR because he was caught driving without driver license. They found out that he did not have any for the last three years...

Jesus that's a hefty fine. Crazy thing to do though.

They found out that he was without driving license atleast 3 years - he was caught by speed cameras several times in the last three years and he paid the bills for that - but nobody checked if he has a driving license. Seems like he never made one so he probably did since he was 18...

The fine for this could have even been up to one year prison or fines that are based on your salary.

Does he seem a bit mental generally?

Quite interesting that you use a full stop rather than a comma. What a crazy world we live in.

Fines based on salary is just so unfair, but guess it's a discussion for somewhere else...

I never thought about it before, but can you really register a car to your name and get several tickets without anyone checking if you have a driver license? I guess his previous tickets for driving too fast never were severe, because surely if he got into the points system for serious driving offences, they would have noticed it earlier?

He's also way more stupid than I thought. I mean, it's really not that difficult to get a fecking driver license. He actually admitted that he took lessons when he was 18 years old but never took the final test .

Yey, you can register a car without having a driving license. That's not a problem.

A bit?

Yeah, let him pay 5000 Euros. He'll think twice next time.

Why? If you're earning millions each year a fine of €1000 is hardly enough of a punishment/deterrent.

I just don't believe in discriminating against people who make more money, and anyway, it's open to abuse. Plenty of CEOs of huge corporations pay themselves a nominal salary whilst being the biggest shareholder at the same time.

Poor rich people. :(

This might sound crazy but I actually prefer the younger version of Bale who was a left winger. Didn't have the crazy productivity but found him more consistently influential throughout games with better work rate as well.

The inside forward version Bale of Spurs last season and Real is ultimately a better player and more productive statistically but I personally found the younger left wing version more exciting and more influential throughout games.

Basically, Wenger's Arsenal vs Ferguson's United then?

Eh no, not for me at least. The Bale of 2011 was still a pretty efficient player. He was good enough to win PFA players player of the year and got into the UEFA team of the year whilst being recognized as one of the top left wingers. Just ask Maicon .

It wasn't as though he was all tricks and flicks with no end product. He did score about 10 goals and had a good assist record but his gameplay was more than just statistics though. It's harsh to compare him with Wenger's Arsenal whose 'beautiful' football for me has been overstated to say the least. Even the Arsenal team of the early noughties played better football but that's subjective.

I just prefer the left wing version of Bale who was more of a consistent threat in matches in relative to the current version who is slightly more sporadic with his impact on matches but more efficient and productive in terms of statistics.

The passing of the torch

Dont like that. He always comes across very nicely and you never heard anything really bad, beside a few tickets. Dont get some posters here who imply that.
BUT he crossed a big line here. Driving isnt for fun and you must know all the rules and so on like everyone knows here.
Personally think that he drove a few months with 18/19 without a license, then got scared about the reaction and just went on. Remember; he was a small player till 20/21. If that driving without a license started then he could have lost the job and so on. Doesnt make it better but a bit more human.

It´s been reported he has been driving around with a forged driver´s license from the Netherlands. :wenger: That probably factored into the hammering fine besides his income.

And Reus has been one of my favourite players since the Gladbach days, when everybody was on the Goetze bandwagon, but that´s some serious stuff.

How can it possibly easier to organize a fake driver's license from the netherlands than to just get a fecking driver's license?

Apparently he thought it was real. I think his former coach once said, every football team has at least five guys that are complete idiots and one guy that would literally live on the streets, if it wasn´t for football. Guess Reus would be that one guy. :(
