Marco Reus

Bale plays on the left wing, so who would play on the right side?

For me, Reus is a must in order to complete our attacking scheme with someone who can play anywhere in an attacking role.

Bale hardly ever plays left wing now and Reus mostly plays there. Both players can play all along the front though.

He'll be 26 before next season starts.......no CL football and no chance against Bayern Munich in the league......he should really go

He wants to win trophies......no one can blame him

I'm not blaming him, it would be depressing regardless, and an indictment on football today.

Honestly I can't recall Honigstein ever really providing anything true. It's usually just random bullshit, echoing believable rumours (just like in this case). Didn't he try to free ride on that (ridiculous) Kroos to Dortmund story which turned out to be a media troll by some forum?

Well his tweet basically admits at least one of his 'sources' is talking shit and unreliable so it doesn't exactly speak highly of his own credibility.

If Madrid don't sign Chicharito their backup attackers are as follows:
-1 of Benzema/Bale/Isco/James (whichever isn't starting)
-Jese

and that's it. So, it wouldn't be insane for them to loan out Jese for 1-2 years and buy Reus, then have 6 full time attackers for 4 spots. Assuming 60 games a season (2 legged CDR), that's 40 starts a piece. Add injury fluctuations and anyone healthy all year can get around 45 starts and 10 sub appearances, which is all an international wants anyways, probably.

Might have to sit on the bench in a CL semi-final or league deciding game sure, but the other argument is that if you come anywhere but Madrid, Bayern or maybe Barca or Chelsea, the former especially is unlikely.

You know nothing Honigstein

Honigstein is at times a bit negative about football and so on but he is a top man. If your post wasnt ironic I would say that you should take him seriously.
But to be honest. No one in Germany seems to have a clue whats going on.

If Reus goes to Madrid it's to replace Ronaldo who is coming home IMO. Providing we qualify for the UCL.

No chance imo. But if it happens I just hope that Redcafe wont implode.

Don't worry LVG will work his magic... But on a serious note Shaq hasn't done shit for Bayern and Ribery and Robben are getting on a bit so my money is on Bayern.

Who is going to pay £85m though? PSG? Will Gareth go there? Us? I'd rather we spent that combined sum on two world class ddefenders.

Gareth has settled in Madrid very well, I'd be amazed if they were to sell him so soon especially fora guy who in this last few months/year has suffered with injuries on a regular bases and could also be argued is he any better really?

I think we'd be head of the cue if they decided to sell him, I imagine only us, City, Chelsea and PSG could afford him.

I think Real could be looking at it from the perspective that Reus and their homegrown players Jese can cover Bale's role and they can recoup a huge wad of money that will pay for Reus and another big signing in the same summer, much in the way they sold Di Maria to minimize their expenditure this past summer when they bought in James.

Honigstein says he got two sources contradicting each other. How is that less credible than claiming to know something he has no clue about, as 95% of his colleagues would have done?

If his two sources are contradicting each other, one of them HAS to be wrong. So it isn't a reliable source. Then there's the chance that the other one is wrong as well. So like I said, he's showing one of his sources to be unreliable at best. It's hardly convincing that he has genuine contacts if he just says he has a source at each club, both who state the two likeliest destinations for Reus, meaning by next summer one of them is miraculously likely to be correct.

With his team now losing their 9th game this season in the Bundesliga, still hanging in the relegation zone and a release clause activating the coming summer, will Reus be leaving in January? He's out until January with a torn ligament, but I wonder if he will be a player to kick up a fuss and make a move before the summer arrives. Personally I would love him here as I rate him as one of the top wingers in the world, but I can't see us beating the likes of Madrid or Chelsea, who seem to be the frontrunners, to his signature. Either way I don't see him remaining at Dortmund, because if he was to stay then he would have signed an extensiom by now which removes this clause.

No, he won't be leaving in January, he'll play out the rest of season and then trigger his release clause. They're still in the Champions League so he'll probably look for some unlikely success there.

Ronaldo - van Persie
Rooney
Di Maria - Herrera
Carrick

They can have Reus...

Real need to sign a centre forward really. Benzema is good (check his stats in CL, pretty damn impressive), but not really 'galactico'. I can't see them signing Reus unless they move Ronny to CF

Maybe not in your eyes, but Benzema is definitely Galactico. Coming from Lyon he was the hottest young striker going, and in a team dominated by Ronaldo he still scores a fair share. If he played for us or Arsenal etc he would be banging them in IMO.

Agree here.
I think I read a stat that said he is the 3rd most productive player in 2014 in terms of goals and assists.... only behind Ronaldo & Messi

Benzema's not absolutely top class but it's easy to look average (in relative terms) when you've got Ronado pooping hat tricks every week.

Agree CF/ST, that would be deadly line up. Obviously that would mean they won't take the option on buying Hernandez.

Kroos.........Khedira?
James
Bale..........................Reus
Ronaldo

Illaramendi (DM), Modric (CM), Isco (CAM), Jesse (W), Benzema (ST).

Not convinced Reus is good enough to force Madrid to put Ronaldo out of position and bench Benzema at all. I actually think Benzema is better than Reus.

Reus could play as a number 10 behind the striker:

Benzema
Ronaldo Reus Bale
Modric Kroos

But I'm pretty sure that would be way too attacking. I don't think Benzema is better than Reus personally, first of all it's difficult to compare the two but Benzema hasn't always been convincing in the last few seasons, at the beginning of last season many fans wanted to see him gone.

They've just signed James...

If Reus ends up at Madrid, I think one of Bale/Ronaldo will be off, and I'd reckon Bale is more likely to leave tbh.

Like I said, he's a class player and has the stats to back it up (especially under Ancelotti), but he's just doesn't have the same star quality as the glamour signings of Ronaldo, James and even Bale, IMO. The rest of the team is pretty much sorted and you can't get any more glamorous than a £90m+ forward. I think if RM were looking for another galactico, CF/ST would be the position they'd buy in.

Having said that, the only one fitting the bill atm would be Aguero, and he's always injured

What about the bloke they spent £60 million on in the summer?

Modric is the best midfielder they have... and Khedira is gone in the summer.

I think Madrid's loss will be our gain in that case....just like with ADM.

Why the hard-on for Bale? He's a left winger until further notice and that's the attacking position we currently need the least in reinforcing right now (ADM can play there if required). The situation is different on the right wing where Reus would fit both our needs (right-footed) and our bill perfectly.

I'd take Bale since the wing is one place we do need enforcements if we're going to play 433. Di Maria looks toothless on the wing.

I still don't understand why people think we are going to play 4-3-3.

We have 4 strikers. 4-3-3 has one striker spot.

We have no wingers. 4-3-3 has 2 winger spots.

Falcao is not only crocked most of the time, but also 29 and basically on trial. Van Persie is 31 and Rooney is 29. I don't think it is beyond the realms of possibility long term.

Assuming Di Maria plays wide (complete and utter waste of his talents), we still need 3 more wingers.

As i said, he's looked poor there for us thus far. It's not something i'm saying we should do, but i do think the current style of play is a temporary one before we move to something LvG is keener on.
