Marco Reus

Don't get why he wants the Barca move. Where does he fit in? If they play like the way below, then that leaves Rakitic, Pedro and Song on the bench in midfield. And if Mascherano plays in defense, then that leaves Vermealen, Mathieu and Bartra on the bench.

Suarez

Reus-------Messi-----Neymar

Iniesta-------Busquets

Do people really think Dortmund can compete with Bayern next season?

Dortmund might have a good chance this season. With Bayern selling one midfielder star and losing two others to injuries, their engine is down for the moment. If Dortmund can somehow find consistency this season, then they can push Bayern all the way. Hoping that happens.

If the transfer ban is upheld he won't be moving to Barcelona anyway. That in addition to Madrid rules out probably two of our biggest rivals for his signature. :D

Still think Arsenal will turn out to be major suitors though. The German connection out there is stronk, they could do with a left sided attacker in congruence with Ozil and Sanchez, play a style of football that's considered attractive on the continent, are sponsored by Puma, Wenger's finally got the resources to spend big on wages, and foreign players usually prefer London. Makes too much sense unfortunately.. :(

I don't see why he would make up this rumour. If he did turn us down I'm disappointed, he'll end up at Barcelona or Bayern. We need to get back to winning ways if we want to secure some of the best talent Europe has to offer. No wonder we've struggled in the market again this year if we're after the best and they don't want to come.

But realistically it will take an obscene offer in the ballpark of £50-55 million for Dortmund to even consider such a transfer. Wouldn't it make more sense to tap him up during the course of the season and give Reus a £10 - 15 million signing bonus if he commits his future to United ? That's effectively like €250,000 - 350,000 per week free wages for one whole year for Reus and brings the total upto £20 million for buyout clause + £10 - 15 million = £30 - 35 million and an effective saving of about £15 - 20 million which could be used to sign another midfield/ defensive player. I'm given to understand this is what Bayern did with Lewandowski with a guaranteed £10 million signing bonus as a gesture of goodwill for committing to the club.

Why would it mean an obscene offer of £55m? They are losing him next summer anyway, this way they get more money and still get to have him for the year.

Hmm.. In fairness mate it's only IMO and I could definitely be wrong but the impression of Dortmund is of an extremely prideful club and Klopp is an even more idealistic person so reneging on their words and letting Reus sign with another club would seem a bit out of character even if he's loaned back. They'd rather lose of out money than on principles - as evinced by Lewandowski's free transfer when reportedly Arsenal were willing to buy him in January for £25 million.

To force their hand we would have to make a considerably more attractive offer because such a deal has never been done before for a major player between two major clubs so it will set a bit of a precedent. They could look around the market and seek a similar deal to James just to ward our interest off.

This is an extremely sensitive matter and signing him once the clause comes into effect would be a much more respectful and official way to approach things for both Dortmund and the player because then the club is contractually obligated to release the player.

That way they can atleast turn at the fans and state that things wee beyond their control as opposed to willingly letting him go, much like Athletic's stance on Herrera or Juventus' reported unwillingness to sanction a transfer for Vidal unless the player hands in a transfer request.

Loaning back a world-class, probably Top 10-15 player like Reus if a paradigm shift to say loaning Robben back to PSV Eindhoven like Chelsea did.

Or more relevantly they will try to work on him renewing with a much bigger clause, or no clause.

I hope we go all out and outbid everyone for him next summer. Probably my favorite non-United player.

De Gea
Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
Blind
Mata di Maria
Januzaj Falcao Reus

I don't see why we can't try sign him.

Madrid - Don't need him with Bale and Ronaldo
Barcelona - Don't need him with Suarez and Neymar
City - Can't afford him(?) / Can't compete with our wages
Chelsea - Squad is set
Bayern - This will be the hardest part in getting him if we bid, hoping Dortmund refuse to sell to them again though.

It's not like Real needed James, or Bale but they still bought them. Barcelona fans are thinking he will have a role as the LAM, the Iniesta role of now. Dont really now if Chelsea's squad is set, Reus is still a huge improvement for them. Reus-Hazard-Willian/Schurrle..

Madrid don't need him right now but there's a decent chance that Ronaldo leaves next summer after the Mendez Perez saga.

Barca don't need him yeah.

City can afford him actually at the mooted buyout clause. They would be further ahead in revenue terms by next season as well and get a larger kitty.

Chlelsea can upgrade on Willian/Schurrle.

Bayern can get him with that clause.

My friend, to blow Arsenal out of the water for any player, all we need to do is buy a bigger wheelbarrow.

Real Madrid: Maybe James will be shit....they go for Reus and sell James to City or PSG
Barca: Transfer ban
City: Of course they can afford him if he's the big transfer next summer for them
Chelsea: I think they would be interested too in him
Bayern Munich: Dortmund can do nothing if he wants to go there

Depends on the system United settle upon, we know LVG likes players who can play a few positions and understand his "philosophy" but i'm not sure Reus (as wonderfully talented as he is) can play many positions other than winger.

No need to jump on the 'winger' part as adding another no.10 is the last thing LVG would do at this point.

Getting Reus in January/June would be the same as the Di Maria signing, get him on a 5 year deal and we'd get his peak years without having to worry about Real and Barca.

Unless I am mistaken there is a buy out clause with a fixed price of thirty something million next summer so we can't outbid people... We can match the clause but I imagine a lot of clubs will match the clause.

His wages will be high but with a relatively low clause most top clubs would be able to make very high offers so it will probably come down to where he wants to play

Hopefully us but in truth I think there are a number of other options for him that will be tempting

Same difference, we'll likely be able to offer wages on par with, or bigger than, any club in the world.

I'm not saying we'll get him, but I thought it was a hopeless cause before di Maria and Falcao.

Now I'm full of beans, get this kid and I'll tattoo, "Marco Reus is my hero go United title #21 in the bag, much love Studward and van Gaal" on my penis in 12 pt. Helvetica.

And the declaration of independence while I'm down there.

I thought at first he might have done his ligaments but they way he went off just with someone helping him hopefully it is just a sprain.

Yeah you can still walk after doing cruciate ligaments though. Some people don't even realise they've torn it until they get back on and feck it up good and proper

Yep

Keano said when he done his ligaments, he just heard something snap and the physio wasn't even sure he had done his ligaments

Wasn't that the case with his pre-World Cup injury too? I don't think he needed a stretcher then either.

Yeah, I actually think it might be a recurrence of that same injury.

I didn't realize that, I thought when your ligaments went you couldn't put any weight on your leg at all.

Hope the injury isn't too serious and he recovers properly, don't need another amazing player ruined by constant troubles.

Anyways, if Bayern want him, they'll get him I think.

Blind
Herrera-----diMaria
Mata
Reus------Januzaj
Could it work?

Normally when you do your acl you still have other ligaments intact ie pcl med col lig etc your knee swells to protect itself from movement though. Normally when you see this and the history of the injury is enough of a diagnosis clinically. You can also do a lag test when the swelling subsides but the earlier you get operated the best results achieved IMO.

The worst part about ligaments is once you damage them, they never return back to the way they were. Doesn't matter how good your rest and recovery is, they'll never quite be the same.

Both of my ankles are ruined nowadays because of this. Can't play a game of footy without them swelling up so much I can't put on a shoe the next day.

This.
Even though the pain is intense at first, it quickly subsides, and this can be misleading. When my ACL ruptured, I felt it snap and thought it could be serious. Then 5 minutes after sitting on the bench, it felt fine and I walk home no problem. I didn't exercise for a few days as a precaution, but went paint-balling a week later. My knee went again. Same pain, same duration. That's when I knew I would have to have it looked at.
When you've gone through an ACL injury you can spot this type of injury a mile off. First the writhing in agony, then the look of 'I can play on'. Some physios even test for it by pulling the lower leg to see if there is excessive movement at the joint, though this may not be effective for partial tears.

Yeh spot on

An AFL player ruptured his ligaments early into a game a few years ago, and ended up playing the whole game out having not realised what happened (Lenny Hayes, which wouldn't be surprising for the Aussies/AFL followers on here).

It was a herculean effort considering how physically taxing AFL can be, and he is a midfielder covering 14 odd km's per match including all the physical tackling/contact, etc.

Replace Mata with falcao and you are good to go.

Amazingly the only player out of the ones mentioned that we don't have is Reus, which is amazing considering how muppetastic signings they all are and have broken through/have been brought in this year. It's amazing when you come to think of it, players like di Maria, Herrera, Mata and Falcao are all huge signings, and if we get Reus he'll be cheaper than all of them. Still can't believe we have them.
