Marco Reus

The downside being that Atletico would not sell they would only run the contract down since their would be minimal money for them in selling him. With a 5 year contract he would be 30 years old when the contract ends and his market value will be a lot less.

Besides the obvious flaws that you mentioned: Dortmund could probably offer him the same deal. And unless Atletico completely feck over their wage structure Reus would probably still lose €5-10m compared to what he could earn in England. So Atletico would probably have to pay Dortmund around €50m++++ to even make them consider selling Reus (imo at this point they won't sell no matter what the offer is, because they belive in finalizing their important business before the window opens) and then give him a release clause around the same number, so he can be sure to move on to a bigger club in the not so distant future and pay him like €8-10m a year and give him like 50% of his next transfer fee, because after all he'd move for the money in this case and some English club would probably offer him something above €10m a year and a nice signing bonus.

Why would he leave Dortmund (his home club) for them? Atletico are in a way similar to Dortmund, but according to the current FML their turnover was less than half of Dortmund's, they have two instead of one of the top3 clubs in their league and they seem even less capable of keeping their stars.
Reus is not some 21 year old from some small club. He's a proven top player from Germany's second biggest club. I'd be very surprised if he leaves for a club that does not have the means to challenge for the CL title every year.
Good points, but it's not like Reus has that many potential landing spots. Real Madrid and Barca already have young, world class players in his position. Would a childhood Dortmund fan like him betray the club and it's supporters like Götze and Lewandowski by joining Bayern? Not so sure. City probably couldn't currently sign him with their restraints. Chelsea have Hazard in his position. I could see him here or at Arsenal for sure.

My point was just that Atleti wouldn't be either a step up or down. He'd be joining and improving a very good side.

He'll most likely be moving next year, a lot of thing might change by then.

Yes but why would he leave his childhood club for a team who probably isn't as good and aren't as rich, and despite winning the title this season, have less of a chance to win trophies then Dortmund given the competition compared to just bayern in the bundesliga. Makes no sense for him.

One of the stupidest rumors I've heard in recent times. Can't understand how anyone believed in this happening.

If you think that was stupid, wait to see what happens in this thread next year.

Can´t believe that this rumor was even a topic to begin with. There are no indications that Reus will leave at the moment and sure as hell not to a club that would not even be an upgrade to Dortmund.

Right now, according to actually reliable sources close to Dortmund the two most likely scenarios in the causa Reus are either renewing his contract including a significant pay rise or moving abroad in 2015. A move right now would make absolutely no sense for either Dortmund or Reus himself.

I don't think anyone did, not even the Atletico fans on their forum. It was more a case of fear on here, the dreaded, "but what if it's true," nightmare that a player of that quality might slip straight past us, without us even being in contention.

As I said in the thread the whole story started with Juan Gato - a Ballague type commentator specialising in Atletico, not one of the Madrid based Atletico journalists working for the big dailies. Marca and AS didn't run with it, not even as a "COPE say" sort of story, because Gato isn't a COPE reporter he's a chatter.

In other words, I guess this means he'll sign for Atletico tomorrow

Because too many caftards believe that transfer dealings in real life is just like how they play Football Manager.

Beckenbauer made some comments about Reus today.

Tapping up has already begun.

Good to see Bayern being classy as always...

Beckenbauer: "If Reus in 2015 won't sign for Bayern Munich, then he will go to Real Madrid or Manchester United"

Good to see he's back from injury.

To be fair, the Bayern posters on here say that Beckenbauer doesn't really have any authority at the club, and what he says isn't a reflection of the club.

Thats true. He is an ambassador now. But he is the Kaiser and has good to great friends in the big boys in the club. He knows some things for sure. Something about Reus? Who knows.
I think he mentioned United because you are one of the big clubs and he is just doing name droping.

Regarding Reus: in a Sport1 TV show one guy(from Sportbild?) mentioned that we(Bayern) were denied when we called him this summer.
I still thinks that he would love staying in Dortmund IF they can show him that they are serious about challenging for the big titles. The moves for investors could be enough with a great 2014/15 season.
He is a Dortmund boy. I really believe that. BUT he knows that he can be a big time player anywhere. He missed the WC title. And he is 25 now. Prime is coming. He will want to use it to its best.

Yeah, he's honorary president and nothing else and more often than not a big pain in the ass for the club when he starts talking. Many of his comments create problems in our team as well like his stupid criticism of Guardiola's work last season. Still annoying that he can't keep his mouth shut and everyone associated with the club should just stop talking about Reus' future. It's disrespectful whatever way you look at it.

I think he will move to Bayern next season. And Dortmund won't be able to do much about it. Shame really as this will have a double effect of weakening Dortmund and improving Bayern.

To be fair; you cant ignore such a player for 25 million. Our board would be idiotic. It wouldnt look good but thats buisness. And 25 is good money for Dortmund.
As a German I want to see a strong Bundesliga but if he will not stay at Dortmund he would leave the league anyway without a Bayern move.
But you are right of course.

Surely a big offer for Reus this season would tempt Dortmund into selling? I know that they decided to hold onto Lewandowski last summer instead of cashing in on him but at this stage they can't afford to lose another star player to Bayern. Selling him this summer would allow them to get more money than they will next year plus they will have control over where he goes whereas they will be powerless to prevent him from joining Bayern next year if he decides to go there.

#1 muppet target for me.

Him and Adnan on either wing drifting in would be just

@anchan1989 : Is Antonio Rudiger any good ? We've been linked to him and Rojo in the past few days.. Wiki says he won the Fritz Walter Gold Medal in 2012 and has 1 cap for the national team..

Sphaero says no amount of money will convince Dortmund to sell Reus this summer because he's their most important player with Hummels. The financial cost of losing him and risking results in the league, Europe and the Puma sponsorship money will outweight the gains from transfer fee. Anyway it would make more sense to wait one season and get Reus for just £20 million than for £60 million now. Anything less than that and Klopp will just repeat his broom analogy.

Agreed. I think it would be a move any big club would want to make. The only real issue where I do feel bad for Dortmund is that they won't be getting true value for the player. Someone as good as Reus should be going for at least 50 million if he is not in the last year of his contract. Shame BvB's hands will be tied.

True but the long term effect of Reus going to Bayern would be devastating for Dortmund. Losing their most important player to the best team in Germany by some distance would mean that they could forget about winning the Bundesliga for the foreseeable future. The league would be about as competitive as the SPL which is a shame as 3 years ago I would have considered the Bundesliga to be the best league in the world.

Fair enough. But something tells me Reus isn't that big of a traitor. For someone born and brought up in Dortmund only to leave for Munich or Schalke would be like Danny Welbeck playing for Liverpool or City. Apparently he has deeper family roots in Dortmund than Gotze who's actually Bavarian and born in Memmnigen or to a lesser extent Lewandowski. That said in football you never know but I'd be really unpleasantly surprised if he does go to Bayern. Seems like Dortmund are willing to roll the dice on this one.

That's true. Like you say his ties with Dortmund are stronger than both Lewandowski and Gotze so perhaps he will go abroad if/when he leaves.

I doubt Reus has told Dortmund that he definitely won't extend his contract, so Dortmund pushing him to move abroad doesn't make much sense for them as long as there is a chance to keep him longterm. Also it really doesn't look like Reus wants to leave this summer, so throwing money at Dortmund is completely meaningless anyway, after all the player has to agree as well. Whatever Reus misses out on this season with lower wages, he can easily make up with a significantly bigger sign-on bonus if he moves next year for way less thanks to his release clause. There's no financial advantage for him and right now Dortmund is still a damn good team with a very good shot at trophies.

@Balu

Can you clarify this please.. :)

Is Antonio Rudiger any good ? United has been linked to him and Rojo in the past few days. Wiki says he won the Fritz Walter Gold Medal in 2012 and has 1 cap for the national team. Dunno much else..

There's a thread about him with a few good posts by German users, think Sphaero (as usual) explained him very well.

FFS I kept searching without the ü. Anyway thanks. :D

Stuttgart is well known for its youth teams. And he seems to be a good player. Still young, specially for a defender, also. But no world beater.

And will you keep your hands of Reus? He will wear the one true red. ;)

Yes. He just turned 25!! I would pay 70 for him. His last few months last season were .
The Reus story could be the big one next summer. Specially if he can get even better this season. He is already on the same levels as any offensive player besides the great 2 out there imo. I hope for a great show this season.

Also about Reus he will wear the true red indeed. :D

Spot on.
Why leave when it doesn't make financial sense and even less sense from a sporting perspective (at least it wouldn't make sense if he'd joined United).
At Dortmund he can compete for the Bundesliga and DFB-Cup in addition to playing in the CL.
If he'd go to United he would only compete for the FA-Cup and miss out on European football.

Still, I think he'll leave Dortmund next year if they miss out on trophies again. After all, he hasn't won anything in his career so far apart from Player of the Year in Germany with Gladbach.

I don´t know about our officials, but the supporters are more or less amused by this statement. The thing is, that I and several others believe, that the more people affiliated with Bayern comment on the causa Reus the less likely a transfer to them becomes. Their policy in this case is completely different to Götze or Lewandowski. In the formers case everything was handled behind close doors which served as shock value for the club and fans, the latter was certain to end up there for a very long time but the Bayern officials were still pretty reserved in commenting that topic.

This whole circus hurts one party the most and this is Reus himself. I simply don´t see Bayern treating their future player like they do right now with putting him on the spot time and time again, making him uncomfortable and forcing him into silence (the wisest thing he can do right now) to not risk his reputation and repeating Götze´s mistake. This all seems like the Bayern officials throwing a tantrum because Reus turned down their advances. This is also backed up by sources close to Dortmund, especially the highly respected sport journalist Freddie Röckenhaus, who is the most reliable source in the press because of his very good connections.

Right now, there is definitively a chance that he signs a new contract and stays long term at his home club. I don´t know how big the chance is, but it is appearantly there. The rumored Puma investment (his biggest personal sponsor) in Dortmund could open up possibilities financially and he is clearly still emotionally invested in the club and seeks responsibility on the pitch, taking the role as one of Hummels´ deputys and a clear lead player (his body language on the pitch changed quite drastically from his first season to now).

However, the most likely scenario is still a transfer abroad in 2015. My best bet here would be the Premier League.

Good points but we werent quiet in Lewas case neither. All this talk could be a warning for other clubs not to come in for Reus.
And about his ideas; why should he leave the booming homeleague Bundesliga with a club like Bayern in it?
My best bets are staying at Dortmund(IF they get more money and have a great season) or walking into a top 3 club in the world, which plays in the same country and needs a guy for Ribery.
Reus(who seems to be a typical German guy(calm, settled) besides his show off looks) at Real or Barca? All that new unknown drama and a new language?
Same with the PL, where you dont know which club will have the best 4,5 years ahead.
Dortmund or Bayern atm for me.
As a Bayernfan, who looks in from the outside.

@Invictus Dream on man. ;)
