Marco Reus

Just watched Dortmund - Real, Reus was fantastic looked more dangerous than Godze too.Is he a winger? seemed to be playing centrally, great player. In fact all of Dortmunt's midfielders were great, quick attacking technical football, made me think that our best midfielder Carrick would look so slow in that team.

In the last two years, he has made significant improvements to his game. He is so direct with his runs, his crosses are good, has pace, is versatile, good from set pieces and scores a bunch of goals. A complete player really.

He is more exciting than gotze imo. Could be ronaldo/quaresma all over again, everyone focusing on gotz, whilst Reus will become the better player.

He played out wide a fair bit for Gladbach, but he's been deployed behind the striker at Dortmund. But he can play anywhere in attack, for my money.

Start working the angles, Fergie, Reus to United in 2014!

When did that happen? Ronaldo at 18 years old looked that special that only idiots (aka RAWK) weren't thinking that if not the best, he will be one of the best players in the world.

I wouldn't say he is more exciting but he seems to be the more efficient player right now, more of a goal threat than Götze of course but a bit more limited in his overall play.

They made a great duo at Dortmund this year because they complement each other really well, it's a pity Götze is leaving now since I feel this partnership could have become one of the very best in Europe over the next couple of years.

The same Carrick who along with Scholes looked slow in our fast-paced counterattacking side of 2006-07?

Not really, he's mostly played out on the right or left for Dortmund but played a lot behind the striker at Gladbach in his final season.

.
It might be hard to fathom, but ronaldo around 18-21 had his fair share of doubters even on here. I was arguing with many of them on here back then. Same shit as with nani, "no football intelligence", "most frustrating player ever", bla bla.

Also all the portuguese were saying quaresma was the one and how much more technique and skill he had... back then Ronaldo didnt even do that much for sporting (played three matches or so?), and they weren't devastated to lose him, some saying he flattered to deceive in one exhibition match. Quaresma was the nation's darling.

He was superb tonight, great pace, skill and directness as well as hard work, he was actually Dortmund's most dangerous player in the first half hour, very impressive young talent.

Pretty much what I was going to say, He created so much for Dotmund tonight.

Him, Lewandowski and Gundogan were all outstanding tonight, perfect unit. Lewandowski provided the finishes, Reus the penetration and Gundogan the rhythm.

I hope we try to sign him, might be a bit unrest at Dortmund this summer as they will loose a lot of their best players.

We should surely be focussing on the CM (an area in which they have an extremely desirable player) before looking at the likes of Reus?

With the money they get from Getse and Levandowski plus there regular transfer budget they will have almost 100m to spend this summer I doubt they'll be selling anybody else.

This. My favourite German player. I actually think he's more important than Götze in Klopp's system. He certainly is in the national team.

Reus + Kagawa

He did play a lot behind the striker in that last season at Gladbach.

I'm sure you payed more attention that me, but as I recall at the beginning of this season he was playing behind the striker. Though I'll admit I've mostly been reading match reports instead of watching them after the slow start.

What has been their most used formation?

Lots of players can score as a lead striker, or playing behind the striker, what makes Reus special, to me, is that he can be just as productive out wide as he is centrally. Which is exactly what we need, so that we can play a 433 and have enough danger out wide to win.

Remarkable talent. Will be interesting how he fares with no Gotze around.

He stepped up when Gotze got injured and was tireless right across the front line all night with some good runs and intelligent passing, he'd fit like a glove with us.

Best left sided attacking midfielder in Europe?

His ball control is a little overrated, though. He's one of those players who's excellent with the ball when he's moving at speed, but he doesn't actually have the tight close control that you'd expect once that element of pace is taken away from him. A good example of that from tonight was when he took the ball into the corner right near the end, but was unable to shield it - Essien won it almost immediately.

Of course, that's not a problem for Dortmund, because they play everything at a hundred miles an hour and he's the key 'pace man' in their counter-attacks.

Better left winger than Bale, easily. Bale's better as a forward though (which is what he's played since December or January)

Was brilliant in both games against Madrid though. Constant thorn in their side and set up countless opportunities.

I certainly agree. He gives the ball away a lot but he's a very direct threat and can beat a player with ease without doing many tricks.

Good performance today. Part of an inexperienced team weathering a storm against a team stacked with riches. It was quite noticeable the drop in Dortmund's precision once Gotze went off. It will be interesting how they cope without him. As long as they hold onto this lad, they should be okay. He's certainly quality but like you said, I do think his control is overrated.

Some people here are overrated him.

His technical abilities are limited. By far not on the same page as Kagawa, Götze, Gündogan and the likes.

But what he got is being one of the best players when he gets pace. When he gets the space and can use his pace he is deadly. Also he is incredibly strong and seeing opponents movements. There once was an interview with Favre (Reus old coach) about it if I remember correctly.

I think you are underrating him. He has shown his class these past two seasons, especially this season with Dortmund. He has been immense for them and he has replaced Kagawa well by scoring and assisting. And you can compare him to Kagawa and Götze since sort of play the same position but you cant compare him to a central midfielder, albeit all of them are very talented.

I think he's right. Although Kagawa gave the ball away a fair amount in his Dortmund days, he was certainly less wasteful than Reus. Kagawa plays more killer balls too but Reus has slotted in well at Dortmund.

Reus is simply more direct in his play and as a result, ends up giving the ball away more often compared to Gotze and Kagawa.

Reus' set piece taking ability in the best in the side. His free kicks are so dangerous. Kagawa couldnt do take free kicks as well as Reus. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. He does link up well and was playing nice one touch football with the likes of Gotze and Lewandowski. So I think this transfer has worked for Dortmund.

Great player. I found his intelligence on the ball of the top tier, I could compare it to Iniesta at times, both the intelligence and his quick feet that allow him to drag the ball away from his marker so quickly and smoothly. Could have had an easy goal had it been Gotze not Kevin giving the through ball when he made a great run, but a really good performance nevertheless.

I don´t even know, why he is compared to Götze, Gündogan or Kagawa, especially the first two, who are creative playmaker. Kagawa is somewhat of a hybrid between the two and Reus, being involved in the build up play, but with more movement towards the goal.

Reus has neither the passing abilities nor the close control of the three mentioned, but is clearly superior in pace, effectiveness and shooting technique, expecially from long range, which also comes into play with set pieces, where he is the strongest.

Reus is in general the most offensive of the said players and too different to really compare him them. He is a finisher, not a creator like Gündogan or Götze or someone who does both to an extent like Kagawa.

Certainly agree.

Who was that in here telling me I was wrong for calling him out as a world class talent? What a player he has become.
