Marco Reus

There's no player that I want United to sign more than Reus. He's perfect for that left wing slot.

I like Reus. Expect him to have a productive World Cup, at which point his price will go up. The German national team looks obscenely talented on paper.

He has a clause in his contract, his price won't go up. Plenty of teams will be interested which is problematic.

Yeah but Dortmund are likely to want to keep him after having lost the likes of Kagawa and Gotze over the past couple of seasons. Also, he's a Dortmund lad.

They can't do anything about it if someone matches his clause. I can't see him staying beyond next year really.

If the clause can't be triggered before 2015, the price needs to go up for Dortmund to sell.

He's not a Dortmund youth player, he joined from Mönchengladbach I thik 2 years ago. He's certainly a great talent and if we get rid of Young, we'd have 4 fantastic wingers. Gündogan (or another top quality midfielder) should be our priority though

He is. They sold him in 2006 then resigned him.

More than Gundogan ?
Yes. We need a Gundogan in our team but Reus is one of my favourite players to watch.
Couldn't read the article as its apparently subscription based. Any one have the entire text?

David Moyes sent his trusted assistants to watch Marco Reus in action for Borussia Dortmund this week as the Manchester United manager continues to weigh up a move for the Germany attacking midfielder.
Steve Round, the United assistant manager, and Jimmy Lumsden, a coach and one of Moyes’s longstanding lieutenants, were at the Westfalenstadion to see Reus score a penalty and set up another goal in Dortmund’s impressive 3-1 Champions League win against Napoli on Tuesday.
Moyes is keen to strengthen his squad in January and has been monitoring Reus extensively, although prising the 24-year-old from Dortmund in mid-season would be fraught with difficulty, especially if the German club manage to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage.
It has been reported that the €35 million (about £29 million) release clause in Reus’s contract does not come into effect until the summer after next, but with his deal with Dortmund running until June 2017, last season’s Champions League finalists are under no pressure to sell.
Among other issues, Moyes wants to address United’s shortage of goals from midfield. Reus has scored nine times for Dortmund, including four penalties, this term.
United have given consideration to offering Shinji Kagawa back to Dortmund in a bid to lure Reus, although it remains to be seen whether Moyes will be willing to give the Japan midfielder an extended run in his preferred central role before making any decision over his future.
With Robin van Persie injured, Kagawa excelled in the hole behind Wayne Rooney in United’s 5-0 demolition of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany on Wednesday, a reminder of how much more effective the player is there than out wide on the left.
Kagawa — whose first season at United in the wake of his £17.6 million move from Dortmund in June last year was largely disrupted by injury — has seldom been given the opportunity to prove his worth through the middle and has been a victim of Rooney’s outstanding form this season.
With Van Persie uncertain to have recovered from a groin problem in time to face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday, though, Moyes could keep faith with Kagawa and Rooney after their impressive interplay and contributions against Leverkusen.
Ryan Giggs, who celebrates his 40th birthday today. has joked that he may miss training this morning to avoid any surprises his team-mates might be planning.
“I’m not coming in on Friday — I’m going to stay in bed I think just in case,” the midfielder said.
Giggs will decide later in the season whether to keep playing for another year and Rio Ferdinand, the defender who was 35 earlier this month, said he expected his position would be assessed in May.
“We will get to the end of the season and evaluate but if the club wants me and I feel good then I am always here,” he said.

He was born and grew up in Dortmund, spent his youth career at Borussia Dortmund between the age of 7 to 17, and currently plays for Borussia Dortmund. I'd say he's as through and through as one can get.

Signing him would be far less simple and more costly than signing Kagawa.

I'd never say no to a player like Reus, but we'd be much better off going for one of their midfielders. Specifically, Gundogan.

Don't do it to yourselves.

It can't be avoided - we must have a disappointing transfer saga every year to keep us off the streets. It wouldn't be summer without it.

It's probably more important than ever this summer - with Arsenal having already signed Muppet Target 2010 last summer, and being regularly linked with Muppet Target 2009, then we must keep the belief that we could sign someone special. It's the way of the Caf.

Either Reus or Gundogan (or both ) will do the job nicely this summer.

I'm in conversation with a good lad in the newbs....Dortmund supporter. He actually believes Reus is a tad overrated at this point in time, bags of potential and although a key player he can often be anonymous in games for long periods. Also feels his dribbling ability requires some tuning, in the sense that he can cede possession quite often when on the ball.

He has also discussed with me the fact Dortmund's hierarchy are trying to negotiate a new contract with wage rise, but one that does away with any release clause. As stated in the article the release clause comes into effect in 2015 and stands at 35 million euros. He doesn't believe Reus and his team will plump for the new deal and will probably look to leave in summer 2015.

Personally don't believe we have any chance of prising him away in the near future. Dortmund don't need to sell and if Reus doesn't want to rock the boat and is happy then it's not happening. Gundogan is definitely more realistic as he will probably be available next summer and possesses the attributes we require. His injury problems are a concern though.

Spend summer chasing Reus with comical bids...End up paying 18 million for Leon Osman on deadline day...Caf goes into meltdown again.

It would almost be worth it for some of the posts

I didnt even know. Will make it difficult but a lot might depend on how Dortmunds season will go

Dortmund would absolutely never sell their best player in January which would effectively hand the title to Bayern. Klopp is not stupid. Every summer we hear how we are going to sign Hummels and Lewandowski and Gundogan but it usually takes Dortmund a matter of seconds to laugh off the speculation that they would entertain selling their best players. If they really wanted Kagawa back desperately and had Draxler lined up then there is a small chance but it's highly unlikely it could happen in January
