Marco Reus

Rapahel Honingstein also was emphatic in saying that the release clause will kick into effect only on the summer of 2015 and Dortmund will expect silly money before that date. Apparently, Jan 2nd will be the day when Bayern announce the signing of Lewandowski.

40 million quid is everything but a bargain for a player we aren't really sure will suit our game.

Agreed, it seems like we're on a mission to sign any Dortmund player.. in my opinion only Gundogan and Lewandowski would both fit into our side and make an instant impact.

Lewandowski would only fit in if RVP was off, which he isn't. Lewandowski is off to Bayern anway. I agree about Gundogan though.

Lewandowski, Gundogan, Hummels, Subotic, Bender, Reus, Kuba and even Aubameyang would all get into your current squad easily.

Which player will? The days of conventional wingers are gone unless we want to persist with above average players like Valencia. Navas is the only one I can think of who plays as a traditional winger and is pretty good, may be Di Maria can play that role as well. Likes of Ribery and Robben play in inverted positions because they want come infield and link with other attackers. Our best winger this season Januzaj had hardly played as a proper winger as well.

I was on about in an attacking sense, Bender yes.. he'd fit in but I don't think he can elevate the style of a team like Gundogan can - definitely better than our current set though agreed. I reject the latter three, good players but I don't think they're what we need in terms of long term first team material, they're better than what we have - yes.. but I want to buy players who are better than our european rivals - potential top class stars, not just buy for the sake of buying. Hummels is a player I like, but again I'm quite satisfied with our defensive options and I'd like to see Hummels return to his prior form, still hasn't quite scaled the same heights yet for me.

I'd rather the Pole tbh, younger, more dynamic and can hold the ball up better.

Kuba or Aubameyang would start on one wing with Januzaj on the other I think.

No, they are both very limited players and would have at least Valencia and Young in front of them. I watch Dortmund all the time, more than any other PL team apart from United, so I know what I'm talking about in this case. It would not even be Close. Kuba is viewed as the weakest link in the attack for Dotmund the last two years. Aubameyang could maybe, but he still has a lot of work to do with his game.

Yeah...........no.

I could understand calling Aubameyang one dimensional, because his current strengths are very straight forward. He is an extremely fast counter player with good finishing, which makes him valuable as impact sub and vs. opponents who don´t sit very deep.

But Kuba? The Pole does not have a single ability that make him really standout like Reus´ shooting technique or Götze´s touch and ball control, which results in him being underrated for years, but he is everything but limited. He is in fact probably the most well rounded offensive player, who ever played for Dortmund under Klopp. He has a package of defensive and offensive strengths that nobody at Dortmund had or has to offer and quite frankly also nobody at United.

This does not mean, that he is the overall best player, because like I said before he does have not a single outstanding feature going forward, but his wide range of abilities, whom all of them can be marked as good, make him really valuable for a team.

I also like how you call him the weakest link of the offense. Aside from disagreeing with that sentiment (in terms of consistence he was probably their best offensive midfielder) the top four of Dortmund in the last season consisted of a world class striker with 30+ goals and three offensive midfielders with each double digits in both goals and assists.

Kuba played in the last season on a level that neither Young nor Valencia ever reached. In top form he would bring more to the table than every United winger bar a Nani in top form (whom he rarely reaches) and potentially Januzaj.

I've always been quite surprised at how little credit Kuba gets, I don't get to see BVB on a weekly basis but I've been able to watch them quite a bit these past couple of years and he's definitely one of my favourite players there. A really good all rounder.

I just thought I'd post it to show just how desperate the media are for anything really. I highly doubt he said that and the media in Germany haven't reported it.

Maybe he won't be signing for Bayern. Nevertheless that's Kagawa, Götze and now Lewandowski left their club in consecutive summers. Just as Rooney openly expects United to remain competitive in the transfer market, so too should Reus of Dortmund. They lost Kagawa for €12M, most of the money earned on the Götze transfer was spent on Mkhitaryan (who's nothing like the same talent) and Lewandowsi is leaving on a free. That's a serious downgrade in quality by anyone's standards, with a net profit of less than £20M - in other words, after selling Kagawa, Götze and Lewandowski (and buying Mkhitaryan), they couldn't have bought Soldado in the summer.

Maybe it's not just us who suck at transfers!

I highly doubt that quote is true. Nothing in Germany about it.

Newbie Manni Kaltz on the McCann info,

Thought you may want to be updated on the following: German football magazine "11freunde" (literally translated: "11friends") did a bit of research RE: Marco Reus' statement that he'd never join Bayern.

In an effort to get the primary source for this statement, they tried to contact the author of the article, Danny McCann; but despite having tried numerous times via phone and e-mail, they were not able to get through to this Danny guy, and Mirror journos only told them that he's a free writer, no Mirror personnel.

To make a long story short: Most probably, the statement is pure fiction invented by Danny McCann.

Gotze had a release clause, Kagawa left in the last year of his contract and they prefered retaining Lewandowski for a season instead of taking 25 odd million Bayern might have given them (as well as giving him an improved contract for last season which was a great gesture). They don't seem to be intent on making a profit on players, trouble is they seem incapable of keeping them at the minute. It should change if they have one or two more European runs like last season. Klopp's eye for players is great too so they'll likely buy a few very good ones in the Summer.

They'll be replacing Lewandowski with Volland I think.

Replace Rooney with Januzai and I would be elated.

He's one of my favourite players currently but I just can't see us going for him unless one of Rooney or RVP leave. I think summer 2015 would be a more realistic time to go for him as that is when his release clause is active I think and by then Van Persie will be old and not a starter anymore.
There is some crazy potential and ability in this though...:

Rooney
Reus Mata Januzaj

Be some signing, but the addition of Mata kind of makes it difficult to accommodate him?

i don't think so. moyes will have to make some decisions for a big match though. but rvp, rooney, mata and reus would be a fantastic front 4 for us. adnan is only going to be 19 by next season, no reason to overplay him, and rvp is 31 as well, so he needs rest from time to time.

rvp, rooney, mata , reus and januzaj. what a choice!

He's not going anywhere before summer 2015, and by then van Persie will likely be just a squad player if not gone. That's when his release clause comes into play. Don't think we'd have any problems of fitting them all in once one of the strikers declines a bit.

He'd be a fantastic signing but why would he come here?

He'd probably also find himself in the conspiracy that sees Valencia and Young starting for some reason every few weeks

We dont need reus. Mata and januzaj are good enough on the flanks

Scored a hat-trick yesterday, takes him to 33 G+A in 34 games. If we got CM , CB and LB sorted with money spare, I would absolutely love us to go for him should we part with one/several of Young, Valencia or Nani. He's 24 and is one of the most dangerous wide men at the top level right now, and is only going to get better. We have lacked so much in the G+A department from our midfield that even 20 from him in one season would be a vast improvement over the past couple of seasons from us.

I've wanted him for ages, you've no idea how good he would look in our side considering the "wingers" we've had to put up with this season.
