Marco Reus

Heavy rumours at Arsenal that he's the next big signing we have mooted.

Arsenal sign one big name player and suddenly they think they are owned by Florentino Perez.

Anyway, he's in sublime form this season. I think he's improved even more since last season.

Can't he play centrally? Whenever I see him, I always think he'd be great almost as a false 9.

He can play in any of the 3 positions behind the striker but you're pretty well stocked in that area. You'd be better off signing a proper holding midfielder.

I could see him doing very well for ye on the left with Ozil/Cazorla on the right, the other through the middle and Giroud up top. With options like Walcott, Podolski and Oxlade, thats a very good attack. Not gonna happen though.

We only spent £45m in the summer, so there's at least another £40m there for a player of this ilk.

I love Reus. Golden talent. And who wouldn't want to play with half the German squad in London?

That'd be overkill with Cazorla and Ozil in the same team.

Reus is a much more direct player than either of them so I don't think they'd have any problem fitting him in. It'd just mean they'd be dropping Walcott to the bench.

The caf will still be laughing at Arsenal when they sign Messi, Ronaldo and Falcao.

"Pointless signings, Walcott plays in the same position as Ronaldo and they have Giroud so don't need Falcao. Messi will improve them but he takes up the same areas as Ozil and Cazorla. A distant 3rd for me."

Gooners should relax. Just because they've signed Ozil doesn't mean you're gonna sign every German player in the world.

Besides I'm not sure why'd Reus swap Dortmund for Arsenal?

He's getting first team opportunities, playing with an amazing manager and an amazing stadium. Plus Dortmund are loaded right now, his new contract will be a big one.

I hope he stays at Dortmund and helps them get the better of bayern.

We've got a lot of money to spend, whether we spend it is another matter though. We have shown our intent with Ozil and not let any players go so is a good sign for the future.

To be fair you thought we wouldn't sign Ozil either ;) I don't think anyone is saying we will sign him but I do think he is someone of interest to the club and we have been tracking his progress for a while now.

Supposedly had a bid turned down for Bender and linked to Draxler so I think the club are tracking a few Germans!

Oh and he can leave next summer for €35M unless Dortmund manages to get him to sign a new contract. If he plays like he does atm and tops it all off with a great WC I think someone will definitely be willing to splash that kind of money.

Has the club confirmed that it's 2014? Because afaik all reports said his release clause can't be activated before 2015 ?

No Arsenal fan thought that you're gonna sign Ozil tbf.

Couple of extraordinary circumstances meant that you were able to sign him.

Now that you mention it I remember something about 2015 as well. Somehow forgotten that. Well so there is still some time left for Dortmund to negotiate a new deal. I really hope he stays for a long time with Dortmund considering how vital he looks for the team right now, well unless he decides that playing for United has always been his childhood dream that is. :D

Arsenal aren't going to sign him, no one is, he's going to stay at Dortmund for a very long time (hopefully).

He'd be great as an actual 9 too to be fair.

Nah, if you're playing him down the middle you you need to play him off a target man (see his partnership with the selfless, mobile targetman Mike Hanke). The problems that arose from playing Walcott up there would crop up again with Reus there. Obviously he's a better player but he's not the type of player you want with his back to goal, he'll lose the ball too often for your front man because he's always trying to turn and run straight at the defence and he'll get bullied by two centre halves. You want him running from deep.

That's definitely true. You want Reus running at the goal not with his back to it and while he might be a good option for a number 9 if you have the space to counter attack, but I doubt Arsenal will meet too many opponents in the PL that would allow them to do that.

Don't do that to yourself. First of all why would he want to leave Dortmund for Arsenal? From what it looks they've retained their strength and they aim for silverware.
And I don't know if you've heard of it but there were reports that Dortmund players make fun of whoever of them is being linked with Arsenal.
Also if (German) media reports are true Reus won't be on the market next summer, because his clause can't be activated before 2015, therefore you have to be willing to pay silly money to even have a chance of signing him.
And probably most important: why go to Arsenal when there will most likely be interest from bigger clubs - Real was reported to have bid €50m for him last April for example.

Personally I don't think one would want him playing with his back to goal. I also largely agree with you. However I just feel though he'd could be excellent as a poacher, Inzaghi or Chicharito style because his movement is top draw and the land has such a composed style to his finishing.

He's brilliant. If i had to choose between one of him or Gundogan to take away from Dortmund, i may probably need a week or more to mull and arrive to a decision

They have the money and Wenger is still a very influential manager. Only reason he may not end up there if they're really interested is if he wants to stay in Germany or play in Spain. And don't forget that they have 3 German internationals in their team now; it's easier to influence a player from that angle as well.

So? Dortmund has four (Hummels, Schmelzer, Bender and Gündogan) besides him. That can hardly be an argument to leave his current club. I don´t know what Özil´s transfer made Gunners believe, but their squad is still only the 4th strongest in the EPL, so the chances to actually win titles are higher at Dortmund, the second force of the Bundesliga. The biggest reason Özil joined Arsenal is that he did not felt the needed trust of his manager and somehow fell out of favour. This is not even in the slightest comparable to Reus´ situation. Reus enjoys (rightfully) the full trust of Klopp (who was the main reason for joining Dortmund in the first place despite having financially better offers) and is a dead certain starter there if he is fit. I don´t see that changing anytime soon.

The opinion that Reus would definitely prefer Arsenal over any other PL club is also a questionable one.

Only reason? Sure.

I never said he'd prefer to join Arsenal. I simply said it may be a serious option for him given the reasons I pointed out.

What bullshit

If he ever becomes available, the likes of Chelsea, Us and City will be interested. No guarantee he'll join Arsenal over these clubs.

Scored a sick volley against Real Madrid in the CL last year.

That's what his game is about - attacking the second ball from deep and powerful dribbling, a bit like Kaka when he was at his peak. In that sense you can say he's a breath of fresh air from current batch of German playmakers. Dortmund sure played a blinder by using him to replace Kagawa.

Rumoured to be approximately £30m. Not a bad price at all.
It is a good price to be fair. But I dunno if he would leave BVB for us. Would definitely be a good addition to our team, especially considering that now our wingers/inside forwards aren't playing that good.

He'd be an improvement over our boy Ashley, that's for sure... He's a top player in fairness, still only 24, too. Quick, explosive, flair etc., everything we're crying out for in a winger. But if signing a winger would interfere with us signing a decent midfielder, I think I'd opt out. Of course in an ideal world we'd get both, but given the choice I'd take a decent cm over Reus.

Agreed. But it should be both and I think that's what Moyes will be looking at. We need a top central midfielder, not a defensive one but someone that is creative and can control the game from deep. Also we need a winger. I would at least try and go in for him if I was Moyes, he would probably want to stay at Dortmund but it's worth a try.

He would suit us perfectly, proper United player.

Oh that comes without saying. The only players I would have chosen before a top quality CM are Messi and Ronaldo. Like you I think that we'll need both a top quality CM and a top quality winger. It isn't just Young who needs improvement but also Nani and Valencia aren't playing as good as before and Shinji is struggling to play in the wing. Reus will likely be an improvement in all of them and is still only 24. Bring him and Gundogan and we'll be as good as the likes of Barca and Madrid, and near as good as Bayern IMO.

Given his ability and age, I'd say he's one of those players who's simply too good to pass up on. He's a title winner.

Yup, I agree. Reus on the left wing with either Valencia in top form or Nani on the right would be ruthless, and that's excluding van Persie and Rooney down the middle. Gundogan would compliment our team wonderfully.
