If he had 8 and Casemiro had 7, means something is going wrong up top. They shouldnt have to make that many tackles and break records against Leicester.
They don't get enough help from the attacking players and this has been a major issue for a while. Teams generally know that we can run forward but not back. Amorim needs to sort this out as it's a major weakness.

Casemiro was together with Ugarte in this match, previously he has been on his own and exposed and we wondered why teams ran through us.

best midfield performance since Carrick retired?

Fred and Hererra (and Casemiro) have produced a bunch of performances that good. What we need to see is if he can do what they didn’t and play that well consistently. And against tougher opponents, obviously.

Even McTominay has played that well a few times, come to think of it. Usually against Leeds.

Looked great yesterday. Lets hope this is the sum of the parts coming together and we see far more of this type of thing.

I see alot of people saying Fred /McTominay had good games, which is correct but the 90% pass accuracy is also something we need to look at. Its all well and good just covering ground and winning tackles and putting yourself about, you need to pass the ball too.

Ugarte looks comfortable on the ball, people think hes not good on the ball because he doesn't try much, when he receives the ball, keeps it simple. We have asked for a player like that so much. It will help our better players knowing we have someone like Ugarte protecting.

I'm cheating because it was Carrick's last season, but Herrera vs Liverpool in the 16/17 season is probably the best central midfield performance I've seen post Fergie.

Was just looking up his stats. 6 dribbles won, 7 tackles, 10 interceptions, 2 clearances, and, if memory serves me right, was our only player that game who had any composure in possession.

He looks to be a run of the mill Jack Russell midfielder.

It sounds like an insult but it isn't meant to be. We badly needed a player with energy ratting around midfield.

Why’s he not started for Uruguay against Colombia? He started every game for them before we signed him.

He gave the win today (a la carga Barracas!), fecking crazy game

Feck knows, but he just scored the winner in minute 102. Scrappy goal, I'll take it.

Lo que jugó la version fachera de Rooney, como lo quiero a Nandez

He might have stole 5 balls in 20 minutes when UY most need it

In retrospect seeing how apparently he was the only acquisition that lacked Erik's approval leads me to believe he was brought in with a direct eye towards the scenario where ten hag would be replaced by amorim.

Defensively Herrera had a really good sense of where to be when. You see it over and over again in that video. There's one moment you even think he's not dropped deep enough and Liverpool have the ball beyond him and he doesn't really chase but when you watch it back he looks and sees two reliable United tacklers well positioned to step in, and lo and behold they do, and the ball breaks loosely forwards and he standing right there to collect it.

It's why comparisons between Herrera and Fred were always so ludicrous. Fred was the complete opposite, never put himself in quite the right place which was why he so noticeably spent every game just chasing chasing chasing.

Ugarte has this ability in spades. But he also has a better engine and better tackling than Herrera to go with it, which is what takes him into the elite category as a defensive midfielder.

Ipswich 1:1 Man Utd New
He would be one of the first players in the line up if I was in charge, great player.

Just by dint of being a central midfielder who isn't 32 years old and is able to run in a manner somewhat reminiscent of an athlete, he should be a nailed on starter for the rest of the season.

Sure did. Looked much more confident than before. Wonder how much that is down to simply playing for a manager he has excelled under before.
Not too sure about this. I thought he looked very good against Leicester under Ruud as well

Think he will be alright under Amorim. He clearly doesn't have the footballing ability to ever be world-class, but can be a good functional midfielder in that system, bit like Henderson under Klopp.

Man Utd 3:2 FK Bodo/Glimt New
Lad looks to be settling and looks very good. He’ll have harder opponents but his ball playing was fine and hopefully he’ll have Mainoo next to him soon.
