Unfathomable why the idiot refused to play him and kept going on that he was not ready.
Because he didn’t want him and wanted to go into the season with Amrabat and McTomminay. Part of the reason he was sacked was because he didn’t even bother to put Ugarte in against West Ham despite the midfield being non existent.

How do you know? Any proof?
Because Ashworth said once that he won't force a player on his head coach, normally you would expect a competent DoF to be able to convince a head coach that player X is good, otherwise they will have problems, a proper football structure led by a competent DoF has the job of bringing in good players into the team, Ten Hag for example said De Ligt & Maz were suggested to him, rather than him asking for them, and he shouldn't ask for players, the head coach should focus on the team as is and make it work, the DoF and the recruitment team will work on identifying gabs in the playing squad and filling those gabs with the right players

Seen a few dribbles and a couple of good passes between the lines. Would just like to see more of it each game. No complaints with his ball winning, done what was on the tin

do you think this signing was made by ineos because they had one eye already on amorim?

From the sounds of things this was not a tek hag signing and that he would have rather had kept mctominay

Dont think it had anything to do with Amorim but I think McTominay outgoing was becuse they werent happy with having a manager who gets bailed out by a sub and just about getting enough points to scrape by and keep his job. I think we have higher ambitions. Ugarte was just seen as a good signing for an area we lacked quality in who might be available and he turned out to be.

It's a collective effort I would say. I'm sure the coach would have some say in signings, just not the final word. At the end of the day, the head coach is asked to work with these signings & get the best out of them.

Indeed it's a collective, and they all work together, at end of the day, a football manager or head coach is judged on results on the pitch, he can't say oh originallly I didn't want this player or that player, usually the media comes out with these stories to add some fluff on their stories.

Big chance for him to really announce his arrival today by doing a job on Palmer. He's looking a bit more settled and coming into a big game now with some confidence.

Seems like he has it in his locker but he’s clearly a safety-first player. There’s merit to both approaches of course but if he’s going to be a starting player for us Amorim needs encourage him to be more progressive.

Man Utd 1:1 Chelsea New
All well and good doing it vs Leicester reserves but struggled today massively.

When the team already struggles with keeping hold of the ball, to buy such a player is a howler of a decision.

I thought he did OK. Definitely not rubbish. He made some very good interceptions, and we were never outran in the midfield for a big period.

I was hopeful of this transfer but I've been disappointed with how poor in possession he's been so far. Looks like the pace of the PL is too quick for him. Hope he finds an extra gear or 2 by the end of the season.

Must have made about 10 fouls at least.

Not great, but still hold out hope that Amorim makes something of him.

Saw some nice long cross field passes today.

He has to be careful in the PL though, you can get yellow cards from breathing down someone's back.

A disaster. Was like watching Fred on a bad day on the ball and Amrabat off the ball. A careless fouling machine.

He did some good things but the last thing this team needs is another player like Casemiro who is highly error prone.

Had one really nice ping out to the right wing.

Very poor otherwise - in and out of possession - after a much more positive game midweek.

And being really honest I'm always going to hate that Joao Neves moved this summer and we essentially bankrolled PSG to get him. Exactly the profile we've needed for a decade. A real technical controller, a conductor, and also brings a real defensive presence.

He's had a better start to his united career than Caicedo had at Chelsea, and look at Moises now. Give him time to settle under our new manager, who had him walking all over arsenals midfield a few years ago.

Agree with all of this

He also had a good moment when a good interception resulted in winning a foul on the edge of the Chelsea box (eventhough the referee blew his whistle too early since Hojlund had a decent attempt at goal)

Can’t wait until he’s sold and then the people here pine for him while we sign his lesser version rinse and repeat.

He's a player who will need the right system for him to be comfortable in the midfield.

It's very discernable to see why Enrique wanted nothing to do with him, he has very apparent strengths but his weaknesses I feel can be rectified with the right personnel / structure around him.

What's certain is he shouldn't be the first phase player when the ball is transitioned from defense to midfield, doesn't have the technique to do the half turn consistently also lacks awareness in possession.

Seen a video of an old match with Matic playing the holding role, now Matic was old and slow be technically he was another level to the shite we've had recently.

Why are we getting taken to the cleaners so often for these bang average footballers.

Reports that he’s poor on the ball look to be bang on.
A club like ours has no business signing players who are not great on the ball. We shouldn’t compromise on these things.

How many fouls did he make ? He’s poor ETH was right that he wasn’t ready that’s for sure. His passing and just his ball in possession in general is average at best.
I hope Amorim can do something with him

That's like saying Rashford had a better start than Cristiano Ronaldo. The problem is that the Ugarte we're seeing is the player he's known to be. He's never going to be a player like Caicedo, who is far more athletic, quicker and better on the ball. I think this is likely the exact reason PSG and Luis Enrique didn't want him. They want to play a more technical game and can't afford to carry a player like that, as the opposition set traps and exploit his deficiencies.
