Manuel Neuer

I'm not sure on De Gea myself, but come on, you're saying De Gea wasn't proven because he's playing in Spain compared to Lindegaard who plays in Norwegian league??

Besides, we have VDS as mentor, i'm sure anything technical he can teach a trick or two, but these reflex, instict, and most of all confidence is the few quality our keepers have been lack of for a while.

Look at Forster, Howard for example, they have no problem playing for lesser teams, they're not buffon but they're doing the job, and if not for VDS we could snatch them based on their performance with their respective club.

It's mentality, more than technical imo. At least De Gea is proven on that department.

Many Norwegian teams play like Stoke, Wolves, Newcastle etcetera with crosses and target men in the box. You see far less of that in Spain. Only time can tell how good Lindegaard is. All I can say is that Lindegaard was too good for Norway. One simply cannot know if he can be a top man in England before he gets the chance to prove himself. There is simply no data on how good Lindegaard is, he has to get tested. He can be a great like Thordstvedt whom went on to be world class or he can be a fluke like Arason whom bareley got a chance... There is no way to know the answer.

But signing the biggest players rarely gives the best results. Real Madrid is prove of that, they should be far more successful the past 20 years than they have been if that was the case. Being great in Spain, is not the same as being great in England. For example Kanouté and Forlan struggled in England, but has both been awesome in Spain.

i have faith in the Breno-Badstuber partnership, i really hope they will be given a chance. otherwise, re-sign Hummels!
I'd bring back Hummels. He in concert with either Breno or Badstauber would improve Bayern at the back tremendously. For right now its a shambles. I also feel Van Bommel needs proper backup/long term replacing.

didn't watch the game, but i have seen enough of him to know he will become a top keeper! would love to have him as our number 1.

Unfortunately my computer died around the 60th minute. He put in a MOTM performance until then. I assume it continued?

You missed a classic - Lewandowski was put through on goal from a Dortmund counter, Neuer charged out and did his best impersonation of a falcon (albeit a falcon painfully aware of the handball rule) and saved with his chest about 50 yards from his goal, before charging back to catch the resulting chip.

Not coming.

I've got not much hope for us buying a decent keeper. So unless Edwin manages to clone himself we are up for some interesting adventures. :nervous:

And yet Ferguson has repeatedly said he has learnt from his mistakes in the post-Schmeichel era. The clear implication from this - added to the fact that Lindegaard was clearly bought as a number 2 - is that United will make a major purchase in the summer to replace Van Der Saar...

The Caf seems to have half convinced itself it would be one of the younger Germans but that always seemed unlikely to me. The fact that that won't happen doesn't mean we won't sign someone 'decent' though...

He reminded me of Schmeichel the way he took charge of that situation. Comfortably looks the best of the keepers we are supposedly looking at.

Out of Adler and Neuer, I prefer the former, but there's not much between them. He was imperious yesterday and has been for a while.

Well, it was a poor contact which have never chipped anyone. And Neuer was lucky thats the case because he had his hands flailing in the air. A half decent contact to put the ball higher and Neuer's hands were in a suspect position to conceed a handball. Obviously he had his chest puffed out and made it as big a target as possible, but he took a big risk and it paid off because Lewandowski had a poor effort.

Neuer's move to Bayern after this season is more or less a dead cert.
Not if Bayern decide - and now that does like very likely - to extend Thomas Kraft's contract. Kraft, who joined Bayern at the age of sixteen, has been van Gaal's first-choice goalkeeper since after the winter break.
And somehow I can't see Fergie going for Adler or Wiese, although both would be very good options.
I do not rate Wiese at all - his kicking, for example, is atrocious, Lailiani.

So, should Kraft remain at Bayern, extend his contract - we could still have a chance of landing Neuer.

sure it was a big but he put the onus on the player to produce a moment of magic which the player failed to do. I thought Neuer made every decision he had to and looked like a commanding presence in goal. You could see the dortmund players have that look like "what do we have to do beat this guy!?"

well done Jaap mate, keep the muppets clinging to this thread :D

as for Wiese, i've never rated him too highly although hes a brilliant penalty stopper (i think in the world cup they showed he had saved his last 6 of 10 or something close to that)

I used to agree but since the World Cup i've been convinced on Neuer and have seen nothing of Adler so far this season to make me change my mind.

Neuer has been very good this season (on the occasions i've seen him) whereas Adler has been wobbly by all accounts.

I thought he played great, but that one moment could have had a very different outcome if the player managed better contact. I did miss the first 6 mins of the match, but from what I can recall there wasnt a single testing cross for him to deal with.

I really like Neuer but he seems destined as the new Bayern goalie. My choices atm to replace VDS:1 Neuer 2 De Gea 3 Stekelenburg. I don't rate Wiese and Adler seems a bit too flappy and mistake prone. Lloris will cost too much.

BILD are constantly linking him to Bayern and they are the best informed source for German transfers.
Of course they are - the best players in the Bundesliga tend to move to Bayern. The Bavarians looked for a replacement for the ageing Hans-Jörg Butt at the end of last year, but van Gaal surprised everyone by deploying Kraft into the goal.

If Kraft performs, Bayern won't move for Neuer - I'm pretty sure of that. I doubt Neuer would want a season without European football and Löw (Germany's coach) will probably want his number one to play on the highest level possible.

The Bayern Munich fans are hating Neuer too.

Not that it's likely he would go to us or that Pool would like to sell - but if Reina decides to leave Liverpool - do you think we should try to sign him ?

Bayern are likely to change and improve the whole defense and I don't think Kraft will get the chance today.

After today's loss against Cologne fans are asking for a new manager and a completely new defense.

How dependant is Neuer's transfer to Bayern on them appointing a new manager? Is Van Gaal an admirer, has he spoken about him in the press?
