Same as all youngish goalkeepers without lots of experience to get it out of their system. No matter who we choose, if we sign a keeper without lots of experience, there will be plenty of mistakes for our fans to cry about and claim he's not good enough and that we need someone else.
 
exactly people have to look beyond the mistakes as everyone will make them. I watched the brazil holland game and I think the holland keeper booted it upfield and cesar was caught in two minds to the point he gifted holland an opportunity to get another goal

Now this is a top keeper and it was suprising. What people have to remember is how light the ball is and I imagine the risk of the ball bouncing off you is always there. The experience he's getting now could easily see him go up a level like big pete (perhaps) did after winning the euros with Denmark.

There are things to work on but it's to be expected. This world cup will prove his character

Neuer dismisses transfer talk

Manuel Neuer has dismissed reports linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The German No.1 has impressed, as he has helped his country to the World Cup semi-finals.

The 24-year-old has now been linked with a number of clubs from across Europe, including United.

But Neuer has insisted that he has no plans on departing Schalke this summer.

"I will definitely stay in the Bundesliga," he said on Sky Sports News.

"I have a contract until 2012 and I am not going to comment on any transfer rumours at this stage."
 
Having a bit of a moan

Schalke 04 goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has cast doubt over his future at the Veltins Arena. He also expressed his discontent with die Knappen's current plight, which sees them sitting second bottom in the Bundesliga.

"I am not comfortable with the current situation at Schalke. I hope we can turn the corner and get back on track," he told Kicker.

"My contract runs until 2012. And I have always made it clear that I would play this season for Schalke. I am doing at at the moment. As for the future, we will see. I want to be playing in European competition next year."

Neuer has long been linked with a move away from Schalke, with Bayern Munich and Manchester United among the interested parties.
 
Would love it if this happened. Still fully expect Munich to snap him up once his contract runs out as they need a keeper too. Well Adler is yet there as well...

agreed - Someway or another bayern seem to manage to sign whoever they want from another bundesliga club
 
Young goalkeepers make mistakes. Its not surprising. Yes Lloris and De Gea too, I've seen those.

I havent seen Neuer for any length of time but what would be surprising is if he doesnt make mistakes.
 
Everyone makes mistakes, keepers included. I remember when the news that VDS joined UNited broke out a juventus fan at work started laughing. he was referring to some high profile error that VDS did during his stay at Turin.

The same goes for Schmeichel and any other keeper.


It's the overall performances that really count not the one-off blunders...

Schalke 04 goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has welcomed interest from Manchester United.

Neuer is ready to move to Old Trafford over concerns than his hometown club could miss out on the Champions League.

Schalke are currently second bottom after five defeats in their first seven games and Neuer said: "I want to be the world's No.1 keeper and stay on top. Those objectives can only be realised if I play the Champions League.

"If the season improves it is possible we could extend my contract. But the fact that Manchester United have been watching me for some time is an honour for me."
 
Lindegaard was never signed to be number 1, the fact Sir alex has said since weve signed him that we haven't clarified anything in terms of the goalkeeping situation yet says it all.

He will be our number 2 with a higher profile keeper signed next summer, hopefully its Neuer.
 
So we either buy a big name signing (Neuer, Lloris etc) or we go the risky way and go with a young talent (De Gea or make Lindegaard no.1)
 
To be totally honest there's very few keepers in the modern game who look comfortable dealing with crosses these days, Reina is considered to be the best keeper in the prem right now and hes a mess at dealing with the majority of them, the likes of Casillas isnt overly wonderful either.

Van Der Sar and Cech are probably the best at dealing with them id say, very few look convincing though.
