Manuel Neuer

I see this deal is back on but didn't he say he wanted to move only if Schalke did not make the UCL? They are in first place and are looking good for a UCL spot next year. Will he want to leave Schalke?

Transfer news: Manchester United eyeing Schalke number one Manuel Neuer as long-term replacement for Edwin van der Sar - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Manchester United eyeing move for Schalke stopper

Manchester United are in the hunt for Schalke’s super keeper Manuel Neuer – as Sir Alex Ferguson looks for Edwin van der Sar’s long-term replacement.

Ferguson sent goalkeeping coach Eric Steele to cast his expert eye on the 6ft 4in giant who celebrated his 24th birthday at the weekend.

Steele saw Neuer in action against Bayern Munich in a German Cup tie last week and Fergie’s keen if the price is right – with Schalke looking for around £10m.

Neuer will go to the World Cup finals in Germany’s squad and is tipped to become their number one sooner rather than later.

The Reds know they don’t have van der Sar’s full-time replacement within their own ranks after Ben Foster flopped – and Neuer is now moving into pole position.

£10m

No way Neuer is going to leave if Schalke make it to the Champions League or win their first title in 52 years. He's a die-hard Schalke supporter and stated himself he'll stay if they make the Champions League Group stages this year. The actual fee may be closer to £25m even though Schalke are in need for money. He's one of the best young keepers in Europe and Magath doesn't sell on the cheap.

I'm surprised this hasn't been bumped. I was really impressed with him today. Commanding, confident and generally very assured.

Is he definitely off to Bayern in the Summer?

Singlehandedly eliminated us (Porto) from the Champions League two years ago

Never forgot him since.

No. He might go there, but he might also stay or go elsewhere. Bayern are happy with Butt, so they might want to keep him for one or two seasons.

And who does dare to bump threads? Even if you are praising a player for more than a year, people will still call it a knee-jerk and muppetry if you bump a thread shortly after a world-cup game.

He won't join us at all, because he will cost much money and everyone who costs more than 10 million pounds 'has no value in the market' according to SAF.

How very cynical of you :)

Don't worry we can still get the Mexican Barthez under that budget ;)

That's his point...in response to Lailiani's ridiculous post...keep up.

:smirk: -> My contribution. The emoticon gives it the added emphasis for slow feckers who don't get sarcasm.

:smirk: -> That one's for you.

Seriously, does nobody else on this forum understand what value means? You realise that, as an extreme example, Ronaldo is value for money? You people realise that right? You people realise that value isn't a synonym for cheap, right? Right....?

You'll have to explain this then. Either the sarcastic smilie is aimed at Lailiani, in which case fair enough...but it's a weird use of it.

Or the sarcastic smilie is suggesting you don't think those players are good value...in which case...

nah, it means cheap

Sadly, I didn't watch the game last night, but every time I'VE watched him, he's been SHITE, making silly mistakes and letting in some goals even Seaman wouldn't have.....except that Porto game....so I prefer Lloris to him....mind you, I haven't watched him this season, so he might have improved...and I might be wrong about him. :D

Always looked quality to me.

I'd take him over Ozil, Silva etc., and for the same price.

Even Seaman? What is that supposed to mean? Seaman was fantastic.
