Manuel Neuer

Really? From that performance?

He's a solid enough keeper but he had his moments today, quite a few of them. Mind you that Gerrard save was unbelievable.

All young keepers make mistakes. All of them. And he made mistakes as did Lloris. As did Foster for us. As will any goalkeeper without vast amounts of experience and having made mistakes earlier in their careers to learn from. The problem is sometimes our fans are too quick to write a keeper off after a couple of mistakes. So we'd be best off getting in a 30-33 year old to play for a few years and not make many mistakes.

It wasnt the mistakes as such, I've watched him in this tournament and he does have his consistent flaws. He's a decent shotstopper but his positioning and dealing with high balls is suspect at times. Still 24 is young for a keeper and he's got time on his side to iron those niggles out.

Certainly could develop into a top keeper, just not sure about him being a direct replacement for VDS. I've been more impressed by Samir Handanovič this tournament.

I think we will end up signing this guy next year.

Looks like a Schmeichel. Kicks and throws like a Schmeichel, saves like a Schmeichel and makes mistakes like a Schmeichel.

guy is a beast, i would have put my house on him saving at least three penalties if it would have come down to it

Was impressed him so much, big, strong and has brilliant reflexes.

Like Lloris, he seems to have a weakness on the crossed ball.

He has more presence though.

young and can become better at it.

I'd be more interested in his positioning, general command of the area, communication with the defenders and handling.

Neuer positives is amazing shot stopping - he is big but very mobile has a kick like a mule and a throw like baseball picther.

He was all at sea on crosses.

I would say Handanovic from Slovenia performed better - both saves and on crosses but saying that all GK have been suspect on crosses.

Some of his handling on crosses was Fosteresque.

Defo a better player thou.

Handanovič, the guy that chickened out on Donovan's shot?

And totally missed Bradley's shot?

I thought he was average yesterday. Wasn't that impressed with his performances in a couple of Bundesliga games I had a chance to watch last season, which included some terrible howlers (one against Bremen if memory serves me right).

First time i've seen him. Made two brilliant saves and for Englands goal, Germany defended that poorly and if he never came out for it, I think it'd have still went in.

Looks promising but I reckon we'll get priced out of the market

To have a keeper with such a clear weakness when dealing with crosses would be a massive risk especially in the premier league.

You can improve on these things. It was probably the biggest game of his life. If Germany are to beat Argentina, he's going to have to prove himself

Why are there almost no keepers who can deal with crosses anymore?

Or are five or six simple headers like yesterday considered par-for-the-course in the modern game?

to be honest, i'm not going to say he is "THE ONE".

I have only seen him 10 or so times and adler 5 or so times....those who have seen both for 20+ times, who is better at what and would be better for united?

was one of the few times I've seen this guy play. He was very good against the argies. a couple of times he fumbled some drives but importantly he had soft hands so the ball didn't deflect far beyond him.

also i liked how he tried to catch most of his saves as opposed to every other keeper this tournament who have been trying to punch/parry everything

I thought he looked a bit shaky again today, as he was against England.

I'm not convinced. But then, I wasn't convinced by Lloris either. Just can't judge by a tournament like this. I mean, the African keepers look great. Wouldn't touch any of them.

That's something that's always impressed me about him. From what I've seen (admittedly not that much) he always tries to keep hold of shots that most keepers out there just parry.

He does that, and then comes out and punch a cross with no one around him. :wenger:
I have heard from some guy who watched Schmeichel in his youth and said he was outrageous at cross at first and he got good later on. So who knows, maybe Neuer can also learn. A keeper his size and height should not struggle with crosses as he does.

Looks like he will pull offf amazing saves and amazong gaffes all in one match.

It's fine guys, I've finally perfected my cloning and rapid-aging machines. Now, someone just get me a lock of Schmeichel's hair.

If you can do a reverse-aging machine I'd be very happy to keep VDS forever young.

I like him. He's not perfect but hey he's part of a nation in the semi finals. The biggest moment of his life. He's raw but he's made some good saves. Yes he's made mistakes but it's how you learn from them and how you don't let them effect you

Green was dropped after a game and one mistake and this kid has the faith of the German coaches and we can assume from that he's a sound character. At 24 he looks a good prospect and he is 'quite' scmichael esqe the way he spreads himself. Time will tell though

Yes. Well said.
