Manuel Neuer

Can we maintain a bit of a sense of perspective here - he put in a good performance, very good in fact, but how often do we see keepers play blinders against us? I hope the club do a lot more than one game of scouting to decide upon Edwin's successor.

This is not some GK that was unheard of before. He has been praised as one of the best GKs for years now and he had successfully showed why today.

Maybe we changed his mind tonight. Who wouldn't want to play for United after that? :D

Sign him up!

I have seen him play like this before. Shame his gf lives in Munich.

It just wasn't the saves though, his commanding of the box was pretty good and his distribution was fecking brilliant, I thought(His throwing was brilliant).

He has been officially added to my transfer muppet list along with Alexis Sanchez.

He was excellent today, and without him we would have won by four or five. He'll be a real asset to whoever employs him next season - he's probably one of the top four or five keepers in world football.

"Best performance I've ever seen from a goalkeeper against Manchester United"

Fergie wants him.

change dmy mind tonight. Have thought of him as unsure and a flapper befor now, but as, dare i say it, very 'schmeichel-esque' tonight.

He has taken his game to the next level after being no 1 in South Africa.

There's no doubt Fergie wants him but it's well known he's off to Munich. I'd still like us to pull out all the stops but it's not gunna happen.

It's a lost cause. If it was an issue of Schalke not wanting to sell him, then there'd be a slight chance United could up their bid and change their mind.

Neuer, why go to a team who's fans hates you and is one of your club's biggest enemies? No, come to Old Trafford instead.

He's still got a year on his contract. If United out bid Bayern, the German side might not even have an offer accepted. It could be similar, in a way, to Heinze when he wanted to go to Liverpool. The club stopped him and ensured he went abroad. Perhaps Schalke will do the same to ensure he doesn't join Bayern.

I take it you haven't seen him play this last 12 months. He's been brilliant and I'm amazed everyone wasn't convinced on his abilities after the World Cup.

He was fantastic tonight. Haven't seen much of him before so can't judge his consistency etc but if I'm basing it on tonight and from what others say about him then he is a keeper I wouldn't mind if we went for.

He's big, strong, confident in the air and has decent reflexes it seems. His throws as well could nicely set up a few counter attacks.

SAF: 'Neuer? I think he's going somewhere else'

Dream on muppets.

Reminiscent of the Gazza against Moses-Robson situation, "don't leave the stadium without agreeing a deal for the lad"

Neuer: 'there was never an offer from ManUtd'

Neuer: "Manchester United never was an option. Only in the media."

Yeah, but if you read back to some pages, the deal has already been concluded, so I don't think there's any chance of United outbidding Bayern.

Plus, players have feelings, if he has his heart set on staying in Germany and really doesn't want to come here, but we somehow outbid Bayern for him, it could affect him.

Saying there's been no offer isn't a bad thing. Least it means he hasn't rejected us...yet

Looks like United are going the De Gaea route. Hope they know what they're doing.

He didn't really have an awful lot to do in the world cup, a[art from a few saves for the cameras. That German team was very good.

He doesn't have to be making flashy saves to look good. One of the things that impressed me most at the World Cup was the fact that he would often have large spells doing nothing but then pull off a top drawer save.

Sign of a good keeper that.

saf wouldnt be saying this shit if he didnt think there was a chance. would only piss off our eventual signing

The fact he said there never 'was' an offer, in past tense, from United, surely means he all but signed on the dotted line for Munich. Also saying 'United was never an option' means he was always going to stay in Germany too.

There's no question United were interested and would sign him if he wanted to come here.
