Manuel Neuer

The fact he said there never 'was' an offer, in past tense, from United, surely means he all but signed on the dotted line for Munich. Also saying 'United was never an option' means he was always going to stay in Germany too.

There's no question United were interested and would sign him if he wanted to come here.

Yep, evident that he didnt want to leave germany plus the biggest club in germany want him. Sums it all up. The gay it is for us then.

How does saying Neuer's performance was the best he'd ever seen against United piss off the keeper we're likely to sign?

It doesn't! People are just a bit tired and emotional it seems!

SAF "Neuers performance was one of the greatest ever against United. We know he's definitely going (to Bayern)"

60 - Schalke's Manuel Neuer had more touches (60) v MUFC then strikers Raul (28) & Edu (30) added together (58). Busy

Sums it up.

We are not good at scouting keepers...

He should've been tapped up months ago!!!

Pretty sure we've already made a deal with De Gea.
Then again, we had also all but signed Senna before Hargreaves became available.

Yeah, I'd say we've got him in the bag. Plus a manager like Fergie doesn't say that Neuer's off to Bayern if he isn't.

Neuer on Sky Italia: "I have no idea where I"ll play next season. Not up to me, up to the club."

Whuuuuuuuuuuuut? I don't believe him though.

Well he's given massive hints he wants to stay in Germany and we know Bayern are interested and perhaps have an offer on the table. For all we know another German side could come in for more money... Say Dortmund after they win the league? And outbid Bayern. In which case Schalke could certainly opt for the higher paying bundasliga side

It's back on!

Dortmund is Schalke's no 1 rival followed by Bayern Munich, surely Munich is a much more likely option.

I think Dortmund would be a risky move. They might well lose some of their best players this summer and I can see someone like Neuer going with the proven pedigree Bayern have. I don't think Bayern will allow themselves to be outbid unless it gets to silly money.

All I'm going to say is wow!!

Amazing performance and it could all be over by now if it was not for Neuer. Have tried to steer clear of the keeper debate so far but I would really, really like is to sign Neuer. I have not seen a keeper pull off that many quality saves since Schmeichel and VDS.

Looks like a replacement made in heaven but only time will tell. I'll be surprised if he ever wears a United shirt though

apparently Nuer has said the only way he'll leave Germany is on holiday [souness on sky sports]

Well it's off again.

Surely after that performance we'll have to at least make a bid for him to give him an extra option!? It was plain to see that he's a fantastic keeper and still very young as goalkeepers go.

Manuel Almunia for Manuel Neuer..straight swap please

He looks an excellent keeper though, and was very confident with high balls and crosses. Would be a perfect signing but will cost bucks.

Would he go to Bayern if they fail to qualify for the CL? If they don't which is looking likely, Robben and Ribery may leave and wouldn't that also mean the Bundesliga will lose a CL spot the year after?

I think Dortmund will struggle to keep all of their stars, Sahin may leave, possibly Kagawa and their own chairman has suggested only Goetze is not for sale. They cannot possibly be considered a viable option for a keeper of Neuer's quality.

It has to be Bayern if he stays in Germany, but i believe a serious bid by Utd to Schalke, the subsequent wages he would get here plus almost guaranteed serious EPL and CL challenges, imo that would be a very attractive proposition for an ambitious Neuer to simply turn down.

Getting De Gea is going to look disappointing now it's apparent he's on the market.

Nope he isn't on the market, Raul and Fergie have both said that he is going to Bayern and I can't find any reason why would they lie.

and who knows De Gea might turn out to be a world beater so that was a pretty pointless comment.

The only one of our supposed keeper preferences I've been actually excited about, none of the others fill me with any confidence. So since Neuer is almost certain to go to Bayern I pray VDS Stays on.

Yeah. We're all gonna be gutted if we land one of the most promosing young keepers in the world. Oh however will we get over it?

I like De Gea, but Neuer has always been on another level, for me. We'll see though, obviously too early to tell.

I do think Neuer is gettable though - a big offer in the summer, and an offer of good wages, and you could snare him.

He's also 5 years older.

What makes you think this, when every noise coming from Neuer and his camp is that he isn't gettable in any way, and will definately be staying in Germany?

The age point is a fair one, obviously.

There's just a doubt in my mind because of Schalke perhaps not wanting to sell to a German club, and the fact that Ferguson was so lavish in his praise of him. Yep, it's not the likeliest of transfers, but I would call it a 30% chance as opposed to a 0%.

It's on

You can almost see it can't you? Champions League final 2019, Sir Alex Ferguson lifts the European cup for the fifth time, Manchester Uniteds sixth. His only regret? Not signing Manuel Neuer Earlier.
Good thing Edwin Van Dar Sar signed a contract extension the day before the 2011 final, another goalkeeper might not have saved that penalty in the one hundred and nineteenth minute against Real Madrids Cristiano Ronaldo, making Manchester United the first team to beat both Spanish giants in back to back finals.

Why would van der Sar need to sign an extension the day before the final? It's not like his current deal runs out on May 27th.

EDIT: Argh, now I see. Back to back Spanish finals. :smirk:

Depends on the money surely? If another German team were to be offering significantly more then Schalke can add more to their own squad and prepare for their champions league survival. Surely their own interests would be more important than choosing between number 1 and number 2 rival
