Manuel Neuer

Neuer agent denies done deal

Manuel Neuer's agent insists the Germany goalkeeper has not yet agreed a summer move, and claims to be in "continuous talks" with Schalke.

The Germany number one, who helped his side to an emphatic 5-2 victory at Inter Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday night, has been linked with a host of top European clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Schalke are keen to keep Neuer at the Bundesliga club, but German newspaper BILD recently reported the 25-year-old does not want to extend his contract, which expires in June 2012.

However, the shot-stopper's agent Bernhard Schmittenbecher has played down such rumours, and maintains he is in talks over a new deal with the German side.

"Manuel has not signed elsewhere," Schmittenbecher told Sportinformationsdienst.

"It is a fact we are in continuous talks with the people at Schalke. This is not something new.

"Obviously we're not going to reveal the contents of these talks. We are not going public with anything like this."

Schalke want more than €30million for Neuer

Schalke insist they want more than €30million if they are to sell Manuel Neuer.

The German international is set to become one of the most sought after figures in the summer window, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich all interested.

Neuer will be down to his last twelve months when the window reopens, but Schalke want the goalkeeper to stay and hope to convince him to sign a new contract.

However, if the 25-year-old states that he wants to leave ahead of next season, the coach of the Bundesliga club has revealed the player will have a price tag of at least €30million.

"We obviously can't tie him down to prevent him from leaving, but Manuel's feeling very well at Schalke,” Clemens Toennies told Welt am Sonntag.

“He's a real Schalke man and the fans are always full of support. We have a great relationship and everybody at the club wants him to stay.

“I really think we have a good chance of keeping him at the club. We will make him a great offer. Manuel is worth more than €30 million and he will only become more valuable."

I had my doubts over him going to Bayern while Van Gaal was manager since he seemed to prefer Kraft and allowing him to develop. He's gone now so there's not much stopping the move unless Neuer decides he doesn't want to go.

It looks like Schalke are doing everything in their power to prevent Neuer from leaving - they have offered him a contract extension.

Details:
Extension from his current contract (2011) until the end of the season 2013/2014 and 7m (!) Euros per year, which would see him earn a staggering 21m in 3 years. He currently earns around 2m a year.

Schalke can feck off if they want 30m for Neuer. Is he like God or something?
I'd happily pay 30m for him (well, not me myself obviously). He's the closest thing to a sure bet out there, and considering how young he still is, he'd be worth it. A solid goalkeeper is one of the most important positions on the field.

He won't go for that much though.

Wow that would probably put him among the top 20-30 in salary well at least until the City Arabs entered the scene....

Germany star Manuel Neuer has revealed that he has already decided where his future lies.

The Schalke goalkeeper has been strongly linked with both Bayern Munich and Manchester United in recent months.

The 25-year-old has now revealed that a decision has been made about his future, but he refused to reveal who he would be playing for next

"A decision has been taken. People who need to know, know. So everything is cleared up," he said after Schalke's 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Neuer has just over 12-months left on his current deal with Schalke.

All a smokescreen to get Neuer which in itself is a smokescreen to get VDS to stay.

"..So everything is cleared up"

Yeah, Manuel that's very helpful. Everything is clear now ;)

Do all Germans have this love for Bayern?

Seems most players would go there. Doesn't appear to be any tribal hatred towards them like you'll see in England amongst players and clubs.

Bayern are what we are over here, what Madrid are in spain, a young players in their respective countrys dream, young players in germany grow up watching Bayern dominate, win things and have the best national players and dream of playing for them, add to that Bayern financially dominate in their country and hence sweep up the best talent more often than not.

But there are thousands in England that despise United because they supported/continue to support Liverpool, or Arsenal, or Leeds, or City growing up and would never join United.

Is there a great number of Germans that feel the same way towards Bayern? Or is the cultural or tribal feeling different in Germany?

Of course there is some hate in Germany, too. Mario Gomez fans still haven't forgiven him his move to Bayern, although Stuttgart isn't even a proper arch enemy.

But it's not like most players really have a choice. If you want to go to a top club in Germany, there's only Bayern. And they do pay great wages.

Quite the contrary. Pretty much everyone bar Bayern fans hate them over there. It's just that young players know that Bayern is the best place to progress with their careers. They have a huge fanbase, great history, worldwide appeal, consistent European football, a good chance to win trophies and can offer huge wages. Very attractive proposition for a young German player.

Indeed. It's similar to the love hate relationship many have with Hollywood.

Yeah, add to that the fact that when they move to Munich they are able to stay in their native country and speak their native language. Maybe they simply do not see the need to go abroad.

Its just annoying when they hoover up the majority of the talented players from the bundasliga for what seem like incredibly reasonable prices most of the time. Its the opposite of over here where we have to pay silly fees for any players we want from the premier league

That's not true, they paid big time for Gomez.

The thing in England is that there are more options so you can squeeze clubs for more money. Manchester United doesn't pay a huge fee? Fine, there are still City and Chelsea. In Germany, not so much. It's only Bayern.

They get their players but they really are made to pay for it. And sometimes it doesn't even pan out as expected, when players turn out to be a big-fish-small-pond phenomenon like Podolski.

So its not true because they had to pay a big fee once for a former German player of the year?

Its been this way for decades, one transfer doesnt change anything.

Of course they buy the best players from other German clubs. But it's not like they buy excellent talent and pay alms. When was the last time they bought an excellent player from a German club and paid extremely low fees?

Players like Lahm or Hummels are from their youth ranks and were only loaned out.

How much did Klose and Van Buyten cost? Wiki has no details. Those are 2 of the 4 other transfers from bundasliga clubs that I saw with a quick scan. Ivica Olic and Hamit Altintop were both free.

I dont know the fees but I'm willing to bet they were both very reasonable prices.

Of course there's Gomez as you mentioned as well.

What ever happened to him? I remember him being amazing during Euro 2008.

Absolutely spot on man. The attraction for any player to remain in Germany is an obvious one, the stadiums are full with great atmosphere's & the league is a good standard of football!

Germany is also a wicked Country & you're right beside many great Countries to visit short-term, without the need to worry about flights.

Bar that prick Ballack, there seems to a mantra amongst German footballers that money isnt everything. Lifestyle & comfort amongst your own people does seem to matter most. Fair play to them!

Just doesn't have it mentally, I guess. Went to Bayern, never found his place, and just decided to go back to his home club FC Cologne. It's his second season back there, nothing special. I still rate him as a football, though, but he doesn't have it in the head.

They seem to pay below the price that would be expected if thre was genuine competition from abroad.

Podolski's a strange one - he was still too young when he went to Bayern (21 years young) and couldn't cope with the immense amount of pressure at the club.

He has had his best season since returning to Cologne; scored 12 and set up 7 goals in 29 matches this year.

That's quite good. I guess I kind of lost track of him, seeing as Cologne isn't going anywhere. I wonder if he'll do a Le Tissier from now on...
