Manchester United vs Lens (Sat 5th August, 12:45 UK time)

He'd lack fitness if they didn't play him and people would be whining he had no preseason. It's just bad luck.
That's not true. He can continue to train alone and still be up and ready to go when called upon. We've seen this countless times. Moreover preseason games are literally training games.

You’d hope so since they havent even played a game together yet.
Everybody here is mental. Getting their match day doom and glooms match fit for the new season.

Seriously, the negativity here makes me wonder why people bother.

So many positives to take away from that half and still a CF to come in yet, which I think is the missing piece to this team clicking.

We really weren't that bad. The right side is just pretty much dead, and we still can't sort out our finishing.

I wonder if we should experiment with Garnacho on the right?
Agree we were not as bad as some are making out. Weird how it is always that right side.

Love to see Mounts heat and touch map for the first half. Hard to understand what he's doing

Mount will be fine but Ten Hag will probably find his best position after weeks of tinkering.
Doesn’t bode massively well for our new no.7 if we have to tinker to find out where he will actually work for us…

Yep, we just look disjointed. There's been so great transitional play from us, generally due to Cas and Bruno, but there's also been some real sloppiness.

The midfield is a fascinating experiment.

To play out of the back you need astute technicians across the backline. We have two very technically poor RBs in AWB and Dalot. If our budget had been bigger I'm sure we would have pushed for Frimpong.

Mount is the biggest worry and how far up hes been told to play.

Every other midfielder we've been linked to other than Caicedo would have cost less. ETH was adamant about Mount so he'd better have a plan for him that works. This will not work.
Maybe this works in Europe? But I don’t think it’s going to work in the PL?

Scoring still an issue.

Dalot 100% at fault for the goal, brainless pass.

I feel he does this mistake a lot when he trying to pass with his left foot. I feel I have seen this same pass messed up by him before as well, passed behind the player.

Of course it's true. People already complain about people not getting enough minutes.

Last season we won all our pre season, then lost to Brighton and Brentford. The most important game is v Wolves on 14th.
we were fortunate last season that Chelsea and Liverpool had, by there standards , a poor season. United and Newcastle benefited from this. This season will be more difficult to get top four, but as long as we can see progress. I still see at least two more seasons before we will be in a position to challenge for title.

This. I am glad we seem to be watching the same game. Not sure what the others are watching.

We are keeping possession but fast movements/attacks. The finishing is lacking but that's not news considering that the solution to that problem isn't on the pitch.

The problem is that the whole picture exactly describes what Arsenal were plagued with for several years prior to last season. Are we supposed to have made so many changes just to become the new Arsenal?

I think Mount will be fine but I think he'll take a while before we see his best form. I think he'll look great during the winter after bedding into this set up.

Exactly the sort of start we needed to this half
