Manchester United vs Lens (Sat 5th August, 12:45 UK time)

Not a bad half.

Onana has been class. Our backline apart from Dalot did great. Our midfield are doing great together. Garnacho has been great apart from his finishing. Rashford can't get into the game yet, but if he was playing on the left he would've scored. Antony had no impact.

The right side will be a real worry for us this season. The threat is just not there at all. Tired of repeating this but Antony needs to do much more. Dalot always has a brain fart in him and I'm pretty sure next summer he'll be off to another club.

I'm very much not one to read too much into our pre- season results and performances, but that was very poor.

The decision to drag them around the US on a marketing exercise looks to have been a poor one.

New season, same problems. The team are too reckless with the ball, and sure it allows us to hit teams on transitions but it also gives them chances to hit us on transitions. Right now the team is much geared towards the quick transition and not enough towards posession in the oppositions half.

Our midfield play is almost non-existent, which tbf is due to a packed mid from lens and us probably not 100% but when eriksen wasn't in the team last season we had the same problem. So far mount is not helping us control the mid and not contributing creatively so he needs to step it up.

So far tiny causes for concern but im hoping the introduction of Rasmus, a big, mobile, quick forward allows us to make that step up.

Our new signings are just terrible.

Onana conceded a goal from the half line.

Mount couldn't finish an absolute sitter.

Too many blond hairs on the pitch and our board decided to add a new one ?!

And why is Dalot starting over AWB ?!

Terrible, terrible day for us.

First time moaning here, am I doing it right ?

Dull, inert, and still largely clueless in possession. I struggle to see much progress towards a proactive dominant football. Fortunately, it's just preseason, many players still haven't switched on, but time is short now.

Bruno, Garnacho, and Casemiro were sharp, although Casemiro as a deep playmaker really isn't it. We need Hojlund in settled and playing as soon as possible.

Thought we looked quite good? should be winning this, one mistake and we are a goal down. But I think it’s not the worst thing, team is getting used to each other and hopefully things will click by the wolves game.

Get all the craps out and return in a better shape, don't think I'll be able to watch this if this isn't a preseason game.

Bruno has been the only positive, he looks sharp. The rest of them are drunk.

We look like team in transition with players not confident and comfortable with their role yet, add in a lot of individual mistakes and poor decision making and it's not been a confidence inspiring first 45 as you'd like to see these things be largely ironed out in pre-season. It may take a while for this team to settle into the changes the managers making so we've just got to hope it doesn't cost us too much at the start of the season like it did last year.

I don't think Dalot will ever be good enough. He will have good moments but overall, he's a mediocre player but we cannot expect to never make mistakes at the back especially when you aimlessly pass it around back there.
Onana needs to pick his moments, there was no reason for him to be there in that phase of play.

Don't tell me RedCafe is moaning about a preseason friendly performance???

Again, if Onana was just inside his box which is probably where he should have been the first time shot doesn't even happen.

The first time shot happened because the striker knew Onana was too high.
Out of curiosity, do you understand the concept of RCA (Root Cause Analysis)?

Genuinely curious if, when your suspension is knackered and the tyre blows up, do you replace the tyre and go on your merry way, or do you see that the suspension caused the issue and work your way forward?

I have an inkling your local mechanic is laughing his way to the bank.

Credit to the goalscorer. It was a fine finish. Absolutely ridiculous gift by Dalot though. We aren't doing Rashford any favors by playing him as a nine. Garnacho is working his socks off. It's so nice to watch him play.

Then you look at the cause, which is both rb's making identkit mistakes that compromise everything aggressive vertical build-up is supposed to be.
For sure.
Doesn't distract from Onana being too high, but yeah the poor ball retention is a major issue.

Dalot needs a good boot up the hole. Far too casual really poor quality right back

I really am starting to struggle watching us huff and puff without creating a single chance then either lose the ball and get countered on or play all the way backwards.

It's a pattern that has happened under numerous managers with totally different squads over the last few years.

The good thing is at least we can spot the people who nothing about football who are blaming Onana here. It’s beyond stupid, but not surprised, there’s a group been waiting to jump on any “mistake” they can find with him already.

This is why we brought him in. He should not have been in his box. He was where he should’ve been. Dalot should just not be so sloppy in that position. He was very poor in the first half. Got abused on defense and didn’t provide anything offensively. Hope to see AWB in the second half.

A preseason game with what will be our first XI playing our first PL game in a week, to be fair. If there’s a game to take some level of serious consideration of…

99/100 his position wouldn't be relevant because Dalot wouldn't make such a stupid error and then you add on variables of him hitting it first time AND getting it almost inch perfect under the crossbar?

Sure, if Onana is 1 meter further back he saves ir, but why would he try and predict Dalot's error and the chance that they hit a first time perfect shot from so far out?

Also, Players rarely get shots on target from those distances let alone score them.
Because there was no benefit to where he was he wasn’t in the best position. Any player needs to be prepared for what can happen.

Our right side has never been good enough, we're just sticking to them because we broke. And the fact that when our players like AWB show a glimpse of improvement, our fans forget everything instantly in the past and just think that we're suddenly going to be amazing.

The doom merchants are out in force today. Do you ever have anything NOT to moan about?

Not sure what mechanical issues have to do with positioning on a football pitch?

The root cause of the goal was a)poor ball retention and b) poor keeper positioning.

Ball retention will need better players than Dalot which we don't have currently, but we can definitely work on better keeper positioning.

First time this preseason i started to worry a bit. It is clear Erik wants the team to be more careful with the ball, and have more possession. But we are still not very good at it. The passing out from the back has improved somewhat with Onana but going forward, we are quite sloppy on a lot of positions. Some sexy stuff from Bruno, Marcus and Garnacho here and there but not much that connects and builds pressure. Not looking too good so close to the season. Understand that Erik is fuming.
