Can see us swooping in for daley blind, de jong and be done with this window. Would be a proper reinforcement job and we would get into top 4 with that.
 
Maybe LvG is stuck between wanting to buy to convert us to 4-3-3 and playing it safe and buying for 5-2-1-2

For all the lies and the failures on the transfer market if nobody signs in, Woodward should sign his letter of resignation or just get pushed out by angry board members.

Getting very frustrated about our lack of transferbusiness. I just want to know does LVG truely think he doesn't need anybody anymore or is this club just not capable of making it happen ? If we want to get players, we are fecking about so much, why do we leave it so late to make bids, yea ok I understand LVG wants to assess what he has got, but he has had his preseason now and it is quite clear that we need atleast a CB and a CM so why are we waisting so much time again. Look at Barcelona they also got a new manager in but that doesn't restrict them in doing their business on time. Starting to really loathe this club and transfers, it is so upsetting, just fecking sign somebody !

I think he saying that when we were on top of our game, we were hardly setting the world alight in terms of transfers and we have always been behind europes elite club in that sense.. Not so on the field of play but in the market..

The problem maybe lies in our valuations and being stubborn to stick to it. Wages, agent fees, etc.

yeah obviously that works for players at smaller clubs, but people are talking about hummels vidal di maria and frustrated that we haven't wrapped it up in 1 week

No, what I am saying is, the club always seems to miss out on most of their targets when they were in Europe. I just do not think our pulling power is that great, we would be in the same situation if we were in europe. Do we need to go over last summer, champions of england and all we sign is fellaini

There was no problem with fergie. We didn't need that calibre of player, as proven over and over again. No need to spend big money = big money not spent

SAF went for plenty of players and was knocked back..

The CL isn't the be all and end all for players sure they want to play in it.. but there are other factors such as money, agent fees, etc that perhaps are more important.

Quite ridiculous when it's put this way. Agree that our squad never had any major changes when it was evident against Barcelona we did.

Well according to Goal, Vermaelen was his primary target and he is left 'reeling at his snub'.

Hope it's not true because God help us if the injury-prone Arsenal reject was our primary target in a summer where we need so much reinforcement.
 
Our blunder was not spending enough and not getting the quality of player we should have around 2008-09 when we were genuinely one of the top 2 European sides. Players would have come here back then, and we could have built something special instead of keeping a side that was getting worse with each passing year. The way we went about our business in 2009 was abysmal and proved to me that we cared about value more than the quality of team. We just lost the best player in the world and hardly brought any replacement for him - with players like Silva, Mata, Aguero, Benzema, Di Maria and plenty more available on the market. Had we used that 80 million plus 30 million transfer budget we were supposed to have every year to reinforce the squad we wouldn't have fallen behind in Europe nearly as much as we have. It had a domino effect on future events.

We are still a good team now, I only regret that we could have been great - up there with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern - and we are nowhere near.

2009 perhaps a loss to barca could be seen has just a learning curve for certain players, but no question the life cycle of the 2006 squad fergie started to build onwards, came to an end in 2011, especially in the way barca ripped us apart. For some reason we never truly saw many changes, and we defiantly payed the price in 2014

Our loss in 2009 was a learning curve but Sir Alex basically made the same mistakes again in 2011. After that I was sure we'd see a shake up but it didn't happen.

I think we defiantly should have signed aguero in 2008 instead of berbatov. It was weird how fergie decided to not progress with new philosophy's, and he went back to tried and trusted ridged 442 from 2010 - 2012, or in that season a experiment with a 433 system when ronaldo left. It felt like he lost that fire to build a new great united side when ronaldo left, like he was trying to do when he had rooney and ronaldo in 2004. His systems in 2009/10 season, seemed very dated but got results, but the quality of football on display was pretty dire. It still will always boggled the mind how the engine room was let to rust away from 2009 onwards. By the time 2011 came around, hargreaves and fletcher broke down, anderson was becoming a failed signing, and fergie decided to bring scholes out of retirement until cleverly was ready in 2012. So you could see the hunger to build a great united squad was not there, and he defiantly wanted to let someone else build a great united side, he just wanted to go out a winner

1. We did spend 60m on Shaw and Herrera. That did actually happen you know.
2. We've been assured by many posters on here that the squad is fine, just by having LVG we will challenge for the title.

Well if we fail to make the CL the glazers will lose a lot of money and that cant be down to LVG. Woodward will have to go, he's very much back in my dislike group now. He gave us so much hope after the interview the we'd spend some money and properly reinforce to get back where we belong, I know there's till time but it doesn't look good, in my opinion it won't happen. We will probably get Blind and De Jong, that isn't enough

Not a chance without new players, we have Cleverley, fletcher and Herrera in midfield to start the season. We have 3 CB that are horribly injury prone not to mention Rafa. A major injury to any on those players and we are fecked

I just think the real madrid raid for ronaldo in 2008 for me I do think hurt fergie deeply. He built one hell of a squad between 2006-09, when ronaldo left in 09 he just decided to play it safe, win a couple of titles go out on a high. I just think he wanted to let the next man try and take united too new heights, I do not think fergie was banking on Moyes to feck it up this badly

Vidal is the one we need mostly, Blind or Rojo would slot in as LCB, these are buys we actually need to not get caught short in numbers and quality, anyone else is a bonus.

Perhaps the club thinks they can pick up the 3 wins in august, do their business in august at the same time

Burnley away

Its august 10th we have 22 days, those 3 fixtures are very winnable. The next fixture in septmeber, is? 14th. So we should have the players signed, they are trained well and ready for the 4th game of the season on September 14th

I doubt all of the rumours and think we might only sign a couple of back-up players like de Jong and Blind.
Nobody big is coming.

Then tell me this: does bringing those sponsorship deals help us signing anybody who is deemed world class in a position that needs some? Unless and until the CEO creates a new position for a DOF to come in, he is still responsible of getting new players signed to help the football operations department accomplishing its job. In that regard, Woodward is a failure at the most important half of his job as a CEO.

Sponsorship only becomes substantial when you win on a regular basis, not before that. Do you believe Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich would have earned the sponsorship deals they have if winning at all costs didn't become a habit/mantra for them?

So what? Just 2 men is not quite what I'd call a very strong improvement yet because of the holes we still have in other areas, especially leadership at the back.

Yet to some that is enough and Woodward should be applauded for taking a year to sort out Herrera?! Woodward is a failure in my eyes, he has 3 weeks or so to turn it around.
 
I guess we're fighting for a midfielder now. At this moment we're Vidal away form a very good transfer window. If we don't get him, I will call it poor transfer window.
Cuadrado won't come here and I doubt we can give Madrid what they want for Di Maria, especially as I'm not sure where would he fit in 3-5-2 (with Shaw on the left).

Maybe, I think after Ronaldo's departure sir Alex didn't care how we won just that we did nobody was better at grinding out results playing poorly then us.

I honestly still think Pep was Fergies first choice to replace him, who better than the manager who managed to team who beat him in two champions league finals.

He might have been, he actually met Pep in person in New York to discuss this but he had already given his word to Bayern at the time. I won't be surprised if Guardiola succeeds Van Gaal here in 3 years.
