Agree 2007 was the last time.
I think 2012 was a pretty poor window Shinji was signed early but after that it was very frustrating Van Persie also made signing Shinji pointless.
Fingers crossed the next (working) week will bring in at least one new exciting player. I have absolutely no idea which of the 345 linked with us it will be however...

The most likely scenario, in my opinion, is that we’re playing hardball with everyone around. Whether it’s Juve, Roma, Fiorentina it’s hard to tell, but this is a very risky tactic (especially in our position). We might piss off some clubs and at this point I can see us going empty-handed.
I still believe we will sign some players, but we’re leaving it late again and to be honest, I’m not sure if Ed understands this football business properly.

Stranger to me is that we haven't cleared the dead weight out in full. Maybe what's holding up the transfers is make weights featuring our cast offs, but I doubt it. I have had enough either way, let's just get the season started.

What's with these rumours of Di Maria? Where would we use him?
Anywhere you want beside defense. He can play in midfield and any attacking role. He's also quite decent defensively but best to use him as an attacking player when shifting from defending to quick counter attacks.
Huge upgrade over Nani. I wouldn't say 'no' to that type of team player and a solid dribbler. Mourinho was very satisfied with him in his Madrid days. He would instantly upgrade our team selection.
He won't do in central midfield, though, and surely he's not what we're looking for in a wing-back? So that leaves the CAM role or the two forward positions. Doesn't make much sense to me, given that we're looking to play 3-5-2.
My take is we are playing 3-5-2 because that best utilizes our current players and i would assume the players we will buy would be players that will suit LVG favored 4-3-3 formation.
It would be a hugely disappointing window if, after finishing seventh with a squad with huge areas of weakness and a lack of quality, we end with signing just two or even three or four players. Especially after shipping off 5 with more likely to leave.

I'd rather put my faith in LVG than demand top class signings, he's already said youth players are easier to mould to his system than star names.I swear some people think the football season starts and ends with the transfer window.
Would agree with this.. If our business is finished then I would be a bit worried about next season. We need at least another two in my opinion, centre half and a midfielder.
Hopefully they will happen and be of real quality not f*cking Ron Vlaar, etc.

We have come to a stage where we need quantity as well, not just quality. We have just 3 injury prone CB's going into a season playing a 3-5-2 formation.
We need a serious look into the transfer strategies. I think, this window has again shown that Ed is not good enough. Why would I be embarassed??, we have been doing well on the field, and thats what matters. But if someone thinks the performances will continue the same way without any signings, they would be blind.

I wouldn't be happy at all. That's more than half of our starting eleven bought in a few months.
I'd take Cuadrado and Hummels, not at those prices though.
Very happy if that happened, because it would mean that LVG is probably going to work with some of our youth players and get rid of the players that never really reached their potential at United.
Probably means Nani/Valencia gone As Di Maria and Cuadrado will replace them. They will have Adnan and Young as back up.

I will be very very happy with de Jong and a back up defender now. Can not see us landing the big names in such a short time so I hope we concentrate on getting on a powerhouse like Nigel.
You jest. WE already have back-up defenders..they're called teh reserves.
I was exaggerating, but the window is open til 31st august. There's still time, and many transfers seem to be triggered by other transfers (money in -->money out) and thus there's always more action near the end of the window.
