Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Maybe, I think after Ronaldo's departure sir Alex didn't care how we won just that we did nobody was better at grinding out results playing poorly then us.

I honestly still think Pep was Fergies first choice to replace him, who better than the manager who managed to team who beat him in two champions league finals.

He might have been, he actually met Pep in person in New York to discuss this but he had already given his word to Bayern at the time. I won't be surprised if Guardiola succeeds Van Gaal here in 3 years.

Exactly. If nothing happens by then, then it's Bon voyage Woodward.
He won't though, he brings in millions from commercial deals the glazers must love him and rightly so from a business point of view.
This is what Arsenal fans must have felt like for nearly 10years

Isn't Giggs being primed for that role?

It was still a bit mad, to decide guadiola could take over from fergie, to David Moyes. Even comparing the 2 like light and day

I think it was wenger driving the fans mad

It turns out that was all a rumour. It turned out Sir Alex, Pep and members of the Bayern board were all at the same restaurant at the same time but for separate business.

Yeah fair one but I'm sure Wengers hand were tied aswell. He did give it the large one just like Woodward.

I do not think united hands are tied, heck the last 3 transfers of fellaini mata herrera and shaw cost over 100 million, which we spent more in those 3 windows, than the last 3 years of fergie's reign. So the money is there, its just being far more decisive in how the club tries to sign the players.

After the clusterfeck that was the nailed-on Vermaelen transfer, I don't believe we'll make any big signings this year. It'll be a low-budget option nobody else wants. Sounds negative, but I'm sick of the United impotent tub thumping.

Just build a side.

We really need to step it up, 2 more signings is a must. After all the big talk from Woodward, surely you would expect another few signings? We really lack quality in particular areas(defense/midfield) and it needs to be sorted. Only so much Van Gaal can do with the squad that has been given to him. I hope to feck there is work being done behind the scenes and announcements are imminent. We won't challenge for the league with this squad.

I thought that too, the money clearly isn't there, 3 managers now have failed to act improving our problem areas all spouting the same lines over and over again, as long as we finish top 4 until the debt has gone we'll continue to make low key signings which barely improve us

It'll be really bad if we don't sign any more players. You can't finish seventh, sign just two players, while losing tonnes of experience, and expect to compete again. If we don't get anyone else in, we'll really struggle to get top 4.

I mean, with a week to go until the season starts, it is quite weird that we've not added to the squad. Admittedly, the seeds of doubt are germinating.

I am sure you are aware that market prices have been driven upward and that the Fellaini transfer was a complete cockup, paying over the release clause to appease fans with a signing, any signing. I'm not sure the last three years of Fergie's reign are relevant unless you want to say that he left the cupboard relatively bare for Moyesey.

I do agree that the money is there and couldn't agree more that the club is being more decisive and hopefully more purdent in their recruitment of players.

Really? I think with a fully fit RVP & Rooney partnership Mata, Herrera, and LVG's tactics and ability to turn dross into players I'm sure we will be challenging with or without signings.

Agree, and why haven't we shifted the dead weight? We're going to take a loss but why keep an Ando or Fellaini? Their prices are certainly not going to go up at this point.

They'll overpay for Daley Blind on Thursday then we'll be spared all this transfer bullshit until January.

Go on, prove me wrong United.

Due to their ridiculous wages. Who's idea was it to give Fellaini 100k a week for fecks sake?

Moyes leaving and being replaced with Van Gaal has as far as I've seen so far rejuvenated nearly the whole squad, who would have thought young would still be here let alone been one of the players of the tour.

I have to say that we are one major injury away from fourth or fifth place. The squad is good but not Utd deep. With LVG's reputation for bringing along youngsters maybe that is our salvation, but personally I have to say we need to strengthen the defense.
Is RVP fully fit???

If we don't sign a couple of class players we need in certain positions , This is Madnesssssssssssssss!

I disagree but time will tell. We had 4 key figures leaving this club (Rio,Vidic,Evra,Giggs) along with Scholes retiring last season and our best midfielder after turning 34. We can't expect to let these players leave and just hope that magically we remain at the top and those players are automatically replaced in quality. Our midfield has been in a dire state for almost 4 years now, Herrera can't solve all our problems in that area.

Nobody is expecting a " galactico signing" but we are now at a stage where we desperately need some key figures to come in and balance this squad. We have too much quality in some areas and we desperately lack quality in others.

Then tell me this: does bringing those sponsorship deals help us signing anybody who is deemed world class in a position that needs some? Unless and until the CEO creates a new position for a DOF to come in, he is still responsible of getting new players signed to help the football operations department accomplishing its job. In that regard, Woodward is a failure at the most important half of his job as a CEO.

Sponsorship only becomes substantial when you win on a regular basis, not before that. Do you believe Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich would have earned the sponsorship deals they have if winning at all costs didn't become a habit/mantra for them?

Of course it helps.. A factor in the board determining the budget or warchest as its know.

DOF wont happen.. It never ends well to be honest. The manager will be the one held responible if the DOF signings go belly up. Undermines the manager in my opinion.

I'm hoping without Moyes ridiculous training regime RVP will be, odd he was back in training the minute Moyes was gone.I can understand the worry about the squad depth but there's not much we can do if Van Gaal wants to trust youth.

Oh I know the prices have gone through the roof, I am just saying the club is spending money. I just think there are head scratchers with getting the right players, we may get away with it in august because the first 3 fixtures are winnable games. I am just hoping this winnable fixtures in august can result in us continuing to do business, without panicking

Like a Marquee name.. Vidal, Hummels, Di Maria etc

It would lift the club big time..

It would certainly lift the supporters, but one or two more players that would give City, Chelsea, Dippers and Le Arse a second thought would be ideal. It seems we do not inspire fear in teams any more and that's why I think a Vidal type to ride herd over the center of the pitch would be ideal.
Nema is gone and we need an enforcer.

It's really mind blowing when I see some posters here claim we strengthened from last year and we are good enough for top four. I know there's the LvG factor by my god even him with Jose and Pep as his assistants won't have the magic formula if god forbids an injury to Herrera or injured already Carrick and only Celverley and Fletcher who I'm still a suspect of him fully coming back to his previous best are left to cover. I'm not even going to bother mentioning Afro man and Anderson who by all accounts seem to be completely out of any future plans and rightfully so.

With the current squad I expect us to compete for top 4. Perhaps get 3rd.

We need Vidal, a wing back/winger and a center back to compete for the title imo.

Up top, we have the fear factor with RVP, Mata, etc.

but granted at the back I get what your saying.. Next season centre forwards would be fancying their chances against the likes of Smalling. God forbid if Keane had to come in.

Don't you think the relatively high turnover in the dugout has contributed it's fair share in the lack of decisive action ? This is one of the implications of the Moyes fiasco, imo and I hope to God that next summer we are more settled .

I don't think any of our rivals will be too concerned with us at the moment to be honest. We were way off the pace last year, and although we've replaced Moyes with a vastly superior manager we still have glaring issues in our team.
