Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

What strange alternate dimension am I bloody well living in where we arent interested in Fabregas but we ARE interested in Gervinho. Im going home, I must be hallucinating.

It's all a bunch of arse.

I'm not believing anyones signed for us until they're entitled to a fecking testimonial

So much negativity in here! Trust in Van Gaal people. Seriously, he is not some muppet manager like Moyes who will just sign a high profile player for the sake of it.

Bloody Jewish kid on Christmas syndrome all over again.

I wish there was one summer where went full on muppet, surely this summer is as good as ever of an excuse.

well, we know van Gaal isn't concerned with big names and in fact has a history of falling out with them, so maybe that's why the Kroos, Fabregas etc... rumors have quietened down and we're starting to hear rumors of players like McCarthy, Konoplyanka and Gervinho coming in. They aren't the big names people were hoping for but their all quality players and LVG might think their ideal candidates to fit into the system he has in mind.

Well since the club have said we will spending BIG and have briefed the pres that LVG has the same kitty Moyes had. I think we are all entitled to get a little excited.

No, but we are still in need of quality established players who can act as examples for youngsters to follow on the pitch, especially when many of our current established players are leaving (Rio, Vidic) or just aren't good enough for this job anymore/at all (Young, Nani, Valencia, Fletcher, Carrick, Fellaini). You just can't ask youngsters to take the lead without a few quality established players to show them the way, especially in midfield where we are seriously lacking.

Last summer's muppet season was the worst ever, followed by the worst season in ages, and now a shite start to this summer. If not for the scousers bottling it I'd think someone somewhere had something against us.

Gervinho? As in Arsenal's Gervinho! In LvG wants him here, I am already worried.

I only mentioned him as we've been linked with him higher up the page, Of course there's better options out there that I hope we get. Although to be fair Gervinho has been great for Roma since joining them and on his current form wouldn't be the worst signing in the world, but like I said there are a lot of better options out there.

My point was LVG targets players who he deems to fit well into his system and will follow his every instruction without a second thought, as oppose to big name signings with big ego's which could potentially be problematic. So being linked with players such as Konoplyanka, McCarthy etc.. shouldn't come as a huge surprise, even if they seem lacklustre.

I understand what you are saying, but Gervinho!!!! Stop scaring me like this.

About Gervinho, being good for Roma doesn't erase how shit he was at Arsenal.

But van Gaal isn't Wenger. Different managers = different tactics = different response from the players.

We're not going to sign fecking Gervinho. Jesus.

I get why people are worried, we seem to have spent all year lining up very ambitious (and unlikely) bids only to change targets at the last minute. We also have last year's mess preying on our minds.

But we really need to be try and distinguish genuine bad news from bullshit bad news and any stories linking us to Gervinho are 100% bullshit.

If we buy Gervinho then I'm severing all contact with an Arsenal supporting friend of mine because he will just be absolutely beside himself with glee.

Don't go there, for feck's sake.

You're right. Let's not look at it logically. After all, no player has ever improved under a different manager's play style and training. Ever.

I'm not saying that we should buy Gervinho though, just making an observation.

We have apparently said no to Kroos, we aren't interested in Fabregas, Muller has turned us down and we've made no approaches to anyone else.

Are we actually going to be buying ANY midfielders this summer?
eh? Says who?

There is one more promising CM prospect left. Lets go after Verrati this summer for a change.

We can't keep losing our primary targets and settle for 2nd or 3rd on the list. From Fabregas and Kroos it seems like we went for McCarthy and what happens then if we lose Shaw as well? We're screwed if we don't make a few signings before the world cup. There's just not enough time between the end of the world cup and the start of the season to make all the signings we need. This is the main worry of a lot Manchester United fans. Unlike Chelsea who seem to be able to easily get most of their targets, we keep struggling. Just look at Costa, first week after the end of the season and we all got the announcement on SKY Sports news and they finished in a good position.

We finished 7th so transfer business should be up and running but yet there's nothing solid yet bar all those reports regarding Shaw's deal being almost complete. Hazard and Lucas were reported as almost complete, one ended up at Chelsea and the other at PSG.

None of these cnuts know anything. We could make up a rumour about Verratti and we'd probably manage to get it into the papers.
Of course you can! Actually, a Dortmund fan tested it and tweeted last summer "what's going on between Kroos and BVB?" and it didn't take long until Honigstein (or one of his Guardian colleagues) picked it up. It was hilarious how this fake tweet made it into the transfer gossip.

Too funny!

I know this has been a feature of our transfer sagas in recent times but I think for these two summers, this and the last, we are reeling from the instability of having new managers who for various reasons can not start early . Moyes started on July first and Van Gal will start around mid July so this could be a contributing factor .
It seems like no one knows the make up of the list that LvG gave to Woodward because if they did things wouldn't be as quiet as they have been in the last 48hrs . Is it too much optimism to think that Woodward now appreciates the virtues of discretion ? I agree that we needed things to be sorted quicker than they have been .

But if Holland reach the final, as they did in South Africa four years ago, Van Gaal will be with the Dutch until July 13.

United are due to fly to Los Angeles for a pre-season training camp on July 16, so Van Gaal could be forced to go from Rio to California without so much as a summer break.
16th of August is the start of the Premier league.

You could say we're still in May, but just reading those 2 lines which I've pulled out of Ogden's article really makes you aware of such a short time frame to make key changes to the squad and that is why we must complete as much as possible before the world cup.

Well it looks like Woodward is not messing around if the speed with which we withdrew from the Kroos signing is anything to go by . But still the ABCs of Van Gaal's list haven't appeared anywhere and I think that list is completely different from the Moyes one and judging by the lack of chatter around the Shaw deal could also mean that LvG has shot it down too . I just hope we are making progress under the radar and will emerge with a few exciting signings but given Woodward's propensity to kiss and tell I'm not holding my breadth .

When talking about Gervinho logic does not apply.

Wait, hear me out. We can use his forehead to scare the opposition somehow. I don't know how precisely, that's for van Gaal to figure out.

I'm willing to accept your apology in the form of either grovelling or as a song of some kind.

They're showing a repeat of the MUTV chat with Ogden and Curtis.

edit: it ended

Curtis said clubs are adding 10m to a player's valuation when they see Manchester United coming because we're desperate.
