Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Do we really think that we will be signing world class players such as these this summer? Given that we didn't really sign many world class players (apart from a few like RVP and Mata) when we were in the Champions League. Our way seems to have been to buy young or youngish players with potential, at value prices, that we can develop within the club.

Or is it just that signing the 'finished article' for big money is Van Gaal's way of doing things?

Whilst I don't think that is the way LVG operates, I think everyone can see our squad is already full of quality young players who can be developed, what is missing (apart from up front) is that sprinkle of top top quality and experience. So 2 or 3 top WC players and I think we would have the perfect balance.

New era. Ferguson never bought "superstars", he made good prospects into superstars (Ronaldo was not one when he came here, nor Keane, nor Solskjaer, nor Shcmeichel, nor, arguably, RvN).

These days clubs cannot compete purely by buying young talent and developing them up. Look at Arsenal, no trophy until they bought a "superstar". Granted he didn't win it for them, but I can't help feeling his mere presence caused others to raise their game.

Just read the transcript. Interesting names bandied about. I don't think we will get any of our A list targets (Kroos, Reus, Fabregas). I do think the Dutch connection means the B or C targets (Strootman, Martins Indi, Clasie) Don't know much about them (except Strootman). Clasie looks good...a better version of Cleverley who can also tackle as well as dribble. Wouldn't be a bad punt. Haven't seen much of Martins Indi, but his partner De Vrij looks like a Humel-lite. Not bad.

TalkSport tonight saying that there is a rumour that Yaya Toure is coming to United! No idea where that has come from - seems highly highly unlikely!! Anyone heard anything about this?

Manchester United alone has a huge pulling power, that with increased investment and van Gaal's name will surely allow us to turn the heads of a few top players. This wouldn't have happened with Moyes in charge but with van Gaal players will be more confident of a quick return to Champions League football.

Kroos, Fabregas, Shaw would be a hell of summer alone.

Really is needed though.
Yep, them 3 are £100m +
It's a shame that we have to spend a fortune in one window to catch up with everyone else. Why oh why did SAF leave us with that midfield and then his mate bring bloody Fellaini with him. Christ

I don't think those three would cost north if the 100 millon mark but will be one hell of a facelift for the squad.

Mental that we should chose to do our spending when the market is at its most inflated.

Great planning that was.

If only Moyes came as good as SAF thought he would, it would have been a totally different transfer window. Unfortunately, under the circumstances there is no alternative to paying over the top for players that we are interested in. Hopefully, LvG and Woodward get everything right this time.

We might get Kroos but I'd say no chance whatsoever of getting Robben, Reus and Hummels.

So according to papers over the last days, our first 11 could look like.

De Gea

Rafael
Hummels
Jones
Shaw

Strootman
Fabregas
Kroos

Rooney
Van Persie
Mata.

I hope we play this 4-5-1 line up next season:

RvP
Nani Kagawa Januzaj
Fellaini Fabregas
Coentrao Jones Smalling Rafael

Just reading that list of targets, if it came to it would anyone be interested in swapping Rooney for Muller? Might work all both parties?

Is there any youngster in the current Dutch team that Van Gaal prefers more than an experienced substitute in the position? If there is, he could be one of the target.

is there anything more silly than muppet season? we read or hear the most absurd nonsense yet we hope, we doubt, we believe..no, no way....so and so has an agreement with Utd....Arsenal in for Utd target x.....On one hand I enjoy it but on the other hand some of the shite that I kind of bought in to makes me laugh at myself.

The age of information has become the age of misinformation.

I know I should just resign myself and just wait for the summer to be over and then see who we sign. I'm sure van Gaal will bring in quality players that will improve the weak aspects of our team and that's what matters at the end of the day and not the actual names of the players involved. We will sign quality players by the end of this transfer window.

Following this media nonsense, one second we're likely to sign Kroos and 5 minutes later it's off. Waste of time.

 By the end of this summer we'll have been linked with all of the footballers

I think LVG must have had a call from Fergie today, and been told in no uncertain terms that under no circumstances do Manchester United sign quality midfielders.

Did Matuidi sign a new contract? If not his contract is up this summer as well?

He did.

This summer is already turning into one I just can't be fecked with. I'm hoping Woodward is getting some serious deals done and newspapers are all just guessing and doing the 'throw enough shit and something will stick' tactic.

This summer might ending being the most insane one, might even top the last years one. We started early this time around.

We have apparently said no to Kroos, we aren't interested in Fabregas, Muller has turned us down and we've made no approaches to anyone else.

Are we actually going to be buying ANY midfielders this summer?

When did Müller turn us down exactly? How do you know, if we have approached anyone else?

It's probably a good thing that we are not interested in a Moyes target.

This is eyebrow raising to say the least, but there are separate reports in England, France and Italy linking Manchester United with more than a passing interest in AS Roma's Gervinho.

Yes
, Gervinho. The Ivory Coast international was a flop at Arsenal and became something of a figure of mockery but he's done really well with Roma and become one of their best players. Still, it would be a huge risk to let him try his hand in the Premier League again, given what has gone before.

Corriere dello Sport claim on Friday that Manchester United have contacted the player's agent Pascal Boisseau to sound him out over a possible move for the player. Roma are in turn working to try and secure Gervinho to a new contract and a cynic would think that Manchester United interest can only help Boisseau in his quest to get a big new deal for the player.

The Italian newspaper say that Gervinho has a buyout clause in his contract ranging from €20m to €25m and that Roma would like any new clause to be around €40m given how well he's played for them so far. That he has a relatively low release clause, and it's not compulsory in Italy, could show that he saw Roma as a stepping stone and place to rebuild his reputation.

It'd be pretty disappointing if that happened. Mostly because I'm not ready to completely write off LVG as a manager and human being.

I really hope we aren't having to target the bargain bin because we can't offer CL football.
