That's what I mean. I'm not saying he's the answer. But I just think he cops for over-the-top negativity on here all the time. And then you have Evra who has cost us so many goals down his side the last couple of seasons it's unreal....

I'd like one quality experienced CB signing and then have Smalling/Jones with them – the proviso being you only play those two at CB and nowhere else, except in the direst emergency. If we get Shaw and also back up on the right, that's looking good to me.
 
Does anyone think were make a signing before the World Cup? I know we've signed a couple of youth prospects but I mean 'big' signings. Would help if we got the frigging manager situation sorted first I guess

Thank you! Amazing how quickly United fans forget the quality of our own players if they don't get on the pitch every week or are forced to constantly play out of position. I'm uncertain about Smalling because of his unreliable distribution, but Evans and Jones both definitely have the potential to be top, top CBs.

It should be stated that Jones has been linked with Mourinho, Chelsea signs for Jones not the other way around .
 
If we do sign Sagna, I hope we put a conditional clause in his contract which forces him to kill that thing on his head.
 
Shaw Hummels Kroos Sagna and Sanchez would be the stuff hard ons are made of if we can do it this summer

Anyone who thinks we have a hope of getting Robben should go and get their head checked........Kroos will not be coming either as Bayern have stated that already......
I think realistic targets are Strootman, Clasie, Hummels, Sanchez or Pedro, Jackson Martinez, Gaitan, Enzo Perez, Patrick Roberts, Bruno Martins Indi, Joel Veltman, Stefan de Vrijs and Shaw
I think Rakitic to Real is already wrapped up....and I think Sanchez will have so many teams after him that it's unlikely we will land him

Despite us not having a hope of signing the likes of Pogba and Robbern etc....there will be endless links with us and them over the summer with endless posts on here of fans thinking those deals are all but done because the daily star says we are interested!

Very different scenario considering Ronaldo was on his hands and knees begging for the move while Madrid were willing to pay any amount.....Bayern Munich are not a club that sells players they want to keep...in saying all that - it's very possible that Bayern could sell Kroos is they landed someone else like Fabregas.....so maybe there is a chance to get him...he would definitely improve us but not sure he is what we need...they defo won't be selling us Robben though thats for sure

Out of the big CM names we are linked with (Kroos, Vidal, Fabregas), I think Kroos is in the best position to sign. It's not highly likely, but it's the best opportunity for sure.

As for Robben, I agree with you on that part. 30 years old and on a large wage isn't particularly ideal.

Now LVG has Officially been appointed how do we think this will happen ? It's obvious there is a few players on a list that will be suggested to Van Gaal but this WC Business isn't going to do us that great, I just pray to god he doesn't need a season to "asses" how shite our Wingers and Midfield are.

I seriously doubt it, apart from Shaw I can't see us signing anyone before July.
 
With Rio, Vidic and now Giggs gone that's one hell of a saving on weekly wages isn't it.
 
So the papers are saying VG has £200m, do we spend it all now and make up for the lack of CL with massive wages or sign a few and wait til we're back competing with the big clubs before heavily investing?

We definitely need more than one central midfielder. Kroos would not be enough. Kroos, Another CM and Shaw, would be a fantastic summer transfer window.
 
IMO we need a LB, a CB, two top midfielders and a world class winger.
 
The mail saying Mandzukic will be our 1st signing after falling out with Pep. He turned the game when he came on against us in the CL.

We haven't had a striker of his physical presence in a long time, he'd have been perfectly suited to the Moyes clusterfeck of crosses actually.

Woody has already stated that our wage budget will increase into the high teens this summer due to paying players a 'Champions league premium'. They're expecting to overpay on wages, which means we'll be in for the big boys.

In a nutshell.....

Benatia, Hummels, Mangala, Rodriguez, Shaw, Moreno, Carvalho, Fabregas, Kroos, Vidal, Reus, Pedro, Sanchez should be the pool of players we should be looking at.

I think with half that sum we can cover at least 2 class midfielders and a left back, which is key. We can reinforce the wing and CB during the winter or next season.
 
Might be said elsewhere but more often than not, new managers to any new club look first to players that have played for them previously or players from their country. Even SAF brought a couple of Scottish lads down with him when he first started. LVG needs players around him that he knows and trusts. He's got a start with RVP, but I really wouldn't be surprised if we see a couple names we didn't expect IMO. If not dutch players from the league, but dutch players applying their trade elsewhere?

Interestingly, the German teams have taken of late a hard line stance on their players in contract, so it seems any Bayern or DM players, you have to wait till they are at least out of contract before signing them....

Well yeah I would say the same except as soon as we are linked with a "starlet" he becomes world famous. I mean Calsie is famous of one pass...in a friendly.
 
LVG must've handed over a transfer target list to Ed for him to carry out. It's the only way we'd get signings done in time, LVG will spend all his time concentrating on the WC, I think he's desperate to prove a point.

Do we really think that we will be signing world class players such as these this summer? Given that we didn't really sign many world class players (apart from a few like RVP and Mata) when we were in the Champions League. Our way seems to have been to buy young or youngish players with potential, at value prices, that we can develop within the club.

Or is it just that signing the 'finished article' for big money is Van Gaal's way of doing things?
