Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Lets be real, reality of the situation:

We tried to sign Kroos and failed
We tried to sign Fabregas and failed
We tried to sign Sanchez and failed
We tried to sign Vidal and are failing
We're trying to sign Di Maria and its not looking optimistic

I'm not believing the bullshit that we were not in for those players we failed in.

EDIT: I forget Hummels

TBF if Kroos had a choice between us and RM.... It's a no brainer

Manchester City didn't really find Barca, Real Madrid and the rest of them a problem when they wanted to sign Toure, Aguero, Silva, Nasri and many others. Neither do Chelsea most of the time. They just write bigger numbers on the cheque that beats what their rivals are offering.

That's our problem

How many players have they signed who Madrid or Barca were in for? Isco was a player they were massively interested in last summer, with a manager who had helped him develop into one of the most exciting Spanish prospects and once Madrid came in for him he chose them over city. Money helps, but Madrid and Barca carry more weight than other clubs in most cases.

So another day with feck all happening.

I was just thinking this.

Why is NOTHING happening, at all?

We aren't getting rid of players, we aren't signing players, wtf is actually going on?

I am convinced Woodie isnt taking that into account and making strict moneyball type offers without realizing what that player might mean to us as a team.... because at the end of the day he is just an accountant who stumbled into the big time and now the bright lights are blinding him.

Woodward is out of his depth and he is mainly responsible for us losing that first game.

If we miss out on the title or a champs league spot because of 3 points? .... watch this space.

While I agree that Woodward is the problem with completing transfers, I can't help but feel that ssaying he is responsible is out of hand. LVG not only was responsible for the team on the pitch, but was also responsible for delaying all transfers until he had been able to review the team for 2-3 weeks.

Woodward said otherwise. He said he has been making progress on supposed targets for weeks.

LVG said he knew before the game he needed replacements, therefore Woodie knew... Woodie stated he has been working on targets for a while now and money isnt a problem because we apparently have so fecking much of it.... therefore the bottleneck must be Woodie and the shit bids he is submitting.

City can get Kompany and Silva, PSG can get Ibra and T Silva without Champions League football then we can get Vidal and Di Maria for sure... money talks but unfortunately we have a CEO never seems to speak up when we really need him to.

Any chance City would let us have Nastasic on loan? Looking at our current squad I doubt they see us as a real competitor this season.

And Bale.

LvG is assessing the squad and Woodward is preparing bids. The same thing they've been doing for a month.

Bale too apparently. Plus, depending on who you believe, Thiago.

Lucas Moura too. Just shows this was a problem while SAF was here too but we handled it better then. Woodward thus far has seemed overwhelmed by it.

To be fair if the stories ring true Hazard and Moura had agreed to join us, but Chelsea + PSG coming in and throwing silly wages last minute drew them away. Bale we were never going to get.

Are you absolutely sure we tried to sign all those players? Are should you have included the word "reportedly" between We and TRIED?

I can never understand people who take every transfer rumour out there as the absolute truth. It is like they have never been through any of this before and not seen how many of the stories are just utter made up BS.

Good point. I wonder how many players we really did try to sign.
Maybe we're not even trying for whatever reason. Which to me is the most frustrating part. We just look clueless when it comes to transfers.

Even during SAF times we had hard time signing world class stars. Now this is just unbearable and we are stuck with the squad we have.

He's already got a better team to start with than Moyes so why does he get the excuse of needing better players?

p.s don't disagree but do think LvG is getting the benefit of the doubt that Moyes didn't get.

Moyes first team consisted of players like Vidic, Evra Ferdinand, Giggs, RVP, for those similar postions LVG first team consisted of Blackett, Lingard, Smalling, Flectcher, & Rooney, I know which set of players I would rather start with, he also had Herrara on his debut, and Ashley Young playing out of position, Moyes was blessed with his first team against this.

Moyes had loads of time, if there had even been the slightest glimmer of improvement IMO he would have kept his job, but it just got worse, at any other top club maybe Arsenal aside he would have been out before Christmas.

Does Mikel count :D

Another similar article. Press being briefed by someone in the club to picture Woodward as the villain?

I don't think that they are picturing a bad guy here, i just think that people underestimate how important it is to have a DOF for a big club. Sammer, Leonardo, Moggi, Galliani etc.. are instrumental in their clubs successes.
Woodward has enough in his plate, if he can't do his "CEO" work and play the DOF, if he tries he will fail at both.

Has to be a defender or centre mid. I'd rather get two budget options in both positions than a Di Maria currently.

I dont how to look at this really b/c it not like its a money problem

Another interesting piece regarding our transfer situation from Miguel Delaney.

http://www.espnfc.com/blog/espn-fc-...travails-under-louis-van-gaal-and-ed-woodward

He says there's a lot of friction in our camp.

Things like that are really fecking worrying if true.

This article has basically confirmed what i have been saying.
The assessing squad bollocks have been squashed again.

As regards the reasons, there are understood to be a few, but the most pressing -- from a variety of sources -- is a current lack of "canniness." One official from another major club confided that he was surprised at the "naivety" of "a club like United" in recent windows

This party- well it doesn't surprise me one bit. I ve been saying Woodie is an idiot (trasnfer-wise) since last summer.

Would people still turn their nose up on Fredy Guarin? Desperate times call for desperate measures and all that. Sad thing is he'd probably be our second best midfielder if he came.

Guarin is much worse than we have. All he can do is run in a straight line and shoot very high or wide.

Don't agree with that. He's better than anything we've got except perhaps Herrera and Carrick on form. Wasn't he also close to joining Juventus last year? Clearly a good player as Juve aren't mugs, they don't buy just any old shite. For example, you certainly wouldn't see them coming to United and taking Cleverley and Anderson off our hands.

Jesus, this all looks grim. We can't get any of the handful of players we are after and the rest is shit.

It does indeed look very grim atm. Hard to see how we're going to sign the quality we need before the window shuts. Hard to see how we'll even come close actually. Not enough options, not enough time and (apparently) not enough competence on our part to get it done.

I was writing the post from a lets be realistic point of view.

You really think we were not in for Kroos and Fab? We want a winger / wide player but you think we were not in for Sanchez?

And hazard and Thiago and sneijder and contreao etc

List is endless

All this. Even Baines...

I'd get De Jong in at this stage to be honest. Doesn't look like there's anyone else out there. At least he'd give us some solidity and aggression that Fletcher just does not have anymore. Also he wouldn't be too fussed about being a sub sometimes. We just need someone competent at holding midfield and protecting the defence while Carrick is out and De Jong would fit the bill okay.
