Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

The odd thing is that if we get rid of the dross, combined with vidic, Ferdinand and Evra leaving, it would have freed up such a huge amount of wages, I don't think 3 big signings should be any issue.
I don't think it is an issue

But finding the right players and getting the transfer done clearly is

While SAF was here he was enough of an icon to keep the players motivated. When Moyes can in and now Van Gaal, though not saying the two are at all equal, could our lack of urgently addressing our needs be affecting the players? We have to assume they are not ignorant as to what our needs our, they are on the field and they know what is happening, at least we might assume that.

So the question is, are last summers fiasco and this summers so far slow response to those needs starting to affect the players and their attitude on the pitch?

Another day goes by with no news on incoming players and the caf has handled it pretty well today. I was expecting a meltdown...

Rojo- £16million
Benatia £30million
Vidal- £40million

That's the minimum I'd say that we'd need to get challenging again.

Only 12 days left and we're probably going to wait until deadline day again to make some moves. Where are those idiots now that were calling for patience back in July and June when some were demanding transfers? You just knew this was going to happen unfortunately.

IMO, I think we're going to end up with De Jong and Blind, and I hope to God that I'm wrong!

I think it'll be rojo and some one like de jong, yeah. Not even sure who'd I prefer of rojo and blind.

You do realise the transfer window is still open, right?

What is your point?
We are still a laughing stock even if we sign 3 players on deadline day.
Our business should have been concluded already the season has kicked off.

My point is that until the transfer shuts, we're still able to sign players. You're idea of a 'laughing stock' would have made a lot more sense (even though I'd still not agree) if the transfer window was shut.

As for our business being concluded, I guess it's not as easy as some of you think.

Except we have spent £60m net, have many clubs spent more?
I don't think that figure's right given our sales, but if we're going down that route then let's also take wages into account. We've sold Evra and Buttner for something like £7m. We've dropped Vidic, Evra and Rio, Buttner, Giggs, Macheda, Bebe and Henriquez from the wage bill. The actual net spend isn't going to be massive unless we have a big last couple of weeks.

I only have to look at all the jokes regarding transfers at our expense to see we have become a laughing stock (even if its only temporary for the moment)

People seem to think we should be like an Arry Redknapp team, Van Gaal hanging out of a Ford Mondeo window talking to a SSN Reporter about how "triffic" Michael Dawson (or whoever we are trying to sign) is.

Just came in from work, saw Fellaini was linked to a Napoli loan move again according to La Gazetta dello Sport. Has there been any more news on this?

How do you get such an impression? I said our business should already have been concluded (at least mostly) since the season has already kicked off.
Nothing about telling the press who we are after... weird comment.

We're a laughing stock since we have left it so long, when we know exactly where quality is lacking.

It's unfair to compare that with what teams like Chelsea and Manchester City have spent this year because they're fine-tuning not rebuilding. It's more realistic to compare it to a time when Chelsea and Manchester City were rebuilding which is what we're doing now.

This is what Manchester City spent from rebuilding in their earlier seasons to fine tuning their squad. £127,700,000(2008/2009), £125,000,000(2009/2010), £154,750,000(2010/2011), £76,000,000(2011/2012), £54,000,000(2012/2013), £103,200,000(2013/2014), £51,500,000(2014/2015).

Even when they're only fine tuning, they still spend more than our average per season.

This season Manchester United have a net spend of £47,700,000.

Finally sense. Spot on as always.

Absolutely. People just go off the transfer spending and think it's a big deal when it's really not. You have to take into account the decrease in wage spending and that's enormous. It makes the financial burden of this window very tiny.

The City numbers there are insane when you actually see them written down.

Not to mention the fact - and we have been, all fecking summer - that the financial strength of the club, the new tv deal, the enormous commercial inroads we've been making and, quite obviously, the necessity to rebuild created by poor performance last season, should mean that even £60m would be very much on the low side.

It's even more ridiculous when you compare it to our own £35,750,000(2008/2009), £21,000,000(2009/2010), £27,200,000(2010/2011), £52,900,000(2011/2012), £63,000,000(2012/2013), £67,700,000(2013/2014), £56,000,000(2014/2015).

It's like we're living off table scraps. Those figures aren't net, they would get even lower if they were. We're spending less money than we used to spend in the early 2000s in some of those seasons!

Who gives a feck what other people think? I certainly don't. We'll see if they're still laughing if we do get our transfer targets. If not then, although some may say it was on the wrong players, we've spent over 100M on transfers in the last 18 months. A lot more than other teams.

We have also lost more players than those teams too, in important positions. Over a 5 year period most clubs have been investing more than us, if we are talking about winning the league (according to Woodward) and talking about money not being an object (according to Woodward) if we don't back it up and sign top players then we are a laughing stock in my eyes.

I wasn't referring to you, I was agreeing with you. I was referring to the "the transfer window is still open guys!" Brigade.

Apologies... this summer window and the loss this weekend has made me a little touchy...:confused::confused:

No one knows for sure what's going on behind closed doors and who LvG does/ doesn't want. The only thing that worries me is (looking on the uber-negative side), what if LvG had a list of, say 5 top targets and we end up with none of them. What's to stop us having a Pulis situation, i.e. the vision of the new manager and the Board don't allign and all of a sudden we've got through 2 managers in as many years after having the previous one for 26. Worrying times, but so easily solved by getting the wallet out and bringing the squad up to scratch.
It's sad to see how far behind we've fallen already since SAF retired. Wind the clock back 5 years and any player coming to the PL, 9 out of 10 if United wanted them, they'd want United. Nowadays we're being left in the distance, City & Chelsea with outright financial clout, Arsenal with constant CL qualification and funds starting to become more and more available as the Emirates is paid for and Liverpool who are back in the CL, gaining a reputation for good football and with their name and 5 European titles attached to it.
I don't feel the whole situation has become 'critical' yet, but we need to start the ball rolling back in the right direction again.

Unreal that is. The fact is the going rate is the going rate and sorry Ed and the Glazers but it's a lot more than it was. We're the biggest club in the world, so we should be spending like we are.

That's the whole point right? When your rivals are spending an average of £100,000,000 per transfer window and you're spending £30,000,000 they're bound to get ahead of you at some point.
