Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

I think the Glazers have taken the Old Arsenal business model, get into the top 4 and everyone's happy.

The money for coming 1st and 4th ain't that much considering how much money needs to be spent to come first. So if the Glazers can spend minimum and get a good ROI then we dont need to spend 100's of millions like Chelsea and Citeh.

So I think the Glazers will be happy coming 4th like Arsenal do(did) as it still offers them good value on investment.

From a fans point of view it's a disgrace and if I find myself celebrating 4th like we used to celebrate winning the league then that will be a sad day.

The only way I see we can return to the top is if we get taking over by a sugar daddy or the glazers put there money where there mouth is...

Thoughts please?

You can kiss LVG goodbye if we get bought out, he won't stand for people being replaced with expensive mercenaries.

I think the most people, Glazers included, would take 4th this season. The most important thing right now is to get back in the Champions League.

I would be surprised if the owners are content for us to be an also-ran in the long term though. It's difficult to build a premium commercial brand on the back of mediocre results.
Coming in 4th will get us Champions League which will keep us up there with the elite European teams. So it's not mediocre at all IMO.

If a sugar daddy came in, I agree lvg won't stand for that but where there's big money there are Managers who will come running especially when they can spend as much as trey want like Ed has given to Lvg...

You are fecking bonkers.

I think he's a better player but he wouldn't get in the team in front of any of Arsenal's #10's/second strikers/attacking mids, he's too slow and not mobile enough. Before you say it I know Cazorla and Özil aren't exactly speed merchants.

He's not slower than either of them and he's far better than Cazorla at pretty much everything. I also think he is better than Özil but that's debatable.

He is however Silva is the better player if that makes sense? In terms of ability

I would have to agree but both on fire at the top of their game id rather have Mata in my team, I just prefer his style when really on song e.g against us 3 years ago at the bridge

It is going to be a very disappointing summer again, as always with us.

Expectations werr set high by the club for a big window for once due to the dearth of quality we have.

Same old shit. We're a mid-range force in the transfer market which will only result in our continued fallike behind the leading clubs.

Yup, we've been falling apart since Premier League was created.

If he is agitated I fully expect him to lash out publicly against the club and Woodward.

I would love to see this. And for him to do it while Woody is stilling next to him crying, holding his blanket. I wouldn't want to be on the end of van Gaal's angry tongue. That was not meant to be as dirty as it sounded.

It's from this Miguel Delaney piece: http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/332897.html

Sources have also said Van Gaal is getting increasingly impatient about the lack of transfer activity. Although Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera arrived this summer, both of the deals were effectively finalised last season, meaning there have been no real new buys since the campaign ended.

Van Gaal did sign off on those two players, but he expected to have the majority of United's business done by Friday - the day before they face Swansea at Old Trafford to open the new campaign.

He was said to be particularly agitated at the failure to complete a deal for new Barcelona signing Thomas Vermaelen, given that United for a long time believed his arrival was virtually assured.

I hope Van Gaal publicly lashes out at them.

But we all know it won't change anything.

We all knew LVG wasn't a man for the big signing and would bring in youth players where he needed players. Like clearly we are after a defender, he can't play an entire team of youth, but this is what you get with LVG. And we knew it. Moyes had targets all set up so if you wanted big signing you should have stuck with Moyes.

LVG can get top 4 with this side anyway, plus maybe a defender. We'll win a lot of games 1-0 like fergie's last season, we'll be solid and someone will come up with some magic. Next season we can build on that again

Not convinced by this theory that if we had kept Moyes we would have signed 3-4 world stars by now, i doubt many top players would have wanted to play for him, the likes of Kroos would have chose Real anyway. Not to mention if Moyes had stayed we would have probably lost another 5-6 good players who wanted out, the likes of RVP & Welbeck to name two.

I would LOVE to see that happening if true. For some reason, I think of this tune when it comes to lash it out against an idiot.

 SCNR. But honestly, Woodward deserves to eat a piledriver for his incompetence.

For some reason I think this isn't true. In reality if Real Madrid came in for Kroos we still would have had issues there, on top of that we're to believe he had a deal in place for Rues? I don't buy it Dortmund were never selling Reus this summer. Pogba - no chance again Juve not budging on him (else he would be a Chelsea player right now).

We probably would have signed the exact same players we have already signed plus maybe Carvaliho (who we can still sign anyway if we pay his buyout clause) and likely if we wanted Vidal still be in the same situation we're in now.

point is just that he spent a year doing work and planning, we saw with herrera and shaw that woodys made progress the last year with some of the targets, a new manager will change some of the targets. If it tkes another year for woody and lvg to get going then it's what we asked for

My transfer window rant:

So Evra, Vidic, Buttner and Ferdinand have left and Shaw is the only new defensive recruit. In addition to this we start the season without Shaw and Rafael because of injury.

Ander Herrera is a good buy in midfield but probably are best other central midfielder Carrick is out till October. No other new midfielders bought in.

Also all those players who were given a chance for many years and proved that they would not cut it, i.e. Anderson, Cleverly, Nani and even Young are still here, there is even talk of some being rejuvenated under LVG.

In my humble opinion this is approaching a farcical situation.

It will take a gargantuan effort of SAF like genius by LVG to get us into the top four with the current squad.

Don't forget that most of our rivals have strengthen there squads even more then we have in the last two years, so we are not even keeping up with them. Chelsea have had the sort of transfer window I expected us to have.

Where is this so called 150 - 200 million transfer window war chest?

LVG said he had inherited an unbalanced side; what is being done about it?

I hope I am proved wrong and I am not known for my pessimism, there is still 17 days left to get some useful signings in that will add value to our squad.

However at this rate I expect us to finish 5 - 6 unless LVG proves to be a tactical genius who can get the more out of the current players that other managers could not.

I get what you were saying mate i do, but had Moyes stayed i doubt we would have signed much more than Herrera & Shaw anyway by now, maybe Carvalho also but thats about it. But with the players that would have wanted out also that would have needed replaced, it just wouldn't have been worth it to keep Moyes.

Ok its not ideal that with a new manager we are playing catch up again as you say having to work on new targets, but plenty of clubs go through the same thing every year and seem to manage. I think we are just inherently slow in our transfer dealings which is a problem in itself.

We always had the luxury of SAF planning well ahead, but now with changing managers we seem to be struggling to adapt our transfer strategy to suit.

I'm not saying it's worth keeping moyes, just letting people know that if they expected LVG in particular to come in and demand 4 50M pound signings within a month of starting then they had unrealistic expectations. He will take his time and give some young players a try. It will be exciting in a different way. If we don't see vidal maybe we'll see some powell at last, if we don't see di maria then maybe januzaj will get 7 more starts this season. As long as we're in the top4 this season that's all good enough for me

Hope there's nothing in these Corluka rumours, he was a good player about 6-7 years ago. We may need a defender that can cover cb and full back but he doesn't have the ability or athleticism.

If the Glazers are just shooting for 4th place and think with the two buys we made and hiring LvG that enough has been done, I have a feeling that come the end of the season, them and us are going to be disappointed. As it is right now I think we will need a lot of luck to get 4th, we are already seeing the injury bug put us in a rough spot, that will only continue. Looking at the past few seasons we are always in the top 7 and even once at the top in terms of days lost to injuries, no reason to think that will not continue this season.

Obviously still time to get deals done. Yes always nicer when they are done before the season starts, but even if they are done by the time the window ends, still lots of time in this season for those new players to make the difference.

And I am not calling for 3 or 4 huge signings of 40mil plus each. I also feel that the entire rebuilding of the club will take at least one more summer window, possibly two, depending on how much buying we do and how many players from our youth ranks are able to step up. So I do not have these expectations of us going from 7th to 1st in a snap.

tbh other than Rojo I would be surprised if we sign any other players this window, LVG made it pretty clear he wanted any in place before the season starts, and given Rojo is the only one that seems like a real story it's hard to imagine we have any other deals to be finished as they wouldn't be done for the weekend now anyway.

as it stands it looks very unlikely given Sporting's position that we will even get Rojo before the Swansea game, if that deal goes ahead then it looks likely to be our last of the summer, looks to me like LVG is preferring to give the youth players a chance instead of signing in a ton of players for the squad...

Vidal has never been on so far as I can tell, same with Strootman or the other big names people are wumming about on here, most of these other players are just stories being invented by tabloid hacks for cretins to get excited over...

It would make sense for LvG to be agitated at this stage. We know he wants players and we know that Woodward has failed to land at least one (probably more) of his targets. Now there are just two weeks left and one of our current targets seems to have quite a complicated ownership situation that may take a while to resolve. Hardly ideal, is it?

And he wants player to train with him and learn the system. He even underlined it when talking about Januzaj and Fellaini, saying that they've trained just a week with him and thus played just 15 minutes in last match.

pls LVG be agitated and clean up this fecking mess.
