The "watch this space" comment was very stupid of him.

The thing we do not know at this point is what players LvG has given to Woodie as targets and that makes it difficult to know what is or is not going on. If the players we are most rumoured to be after are not on the list, then Woodie gets a pass for not signing them doesn't he, since we most likely never even tried because the manager did nto want them.

I think LvG needs more than a month to see what we've got. Shaw was obvious because of Evra leaving and Herrara because of Scholes and Giggs. If he can get us back challenging we will see a couple of additions in January maybe.
 
I'm not even bothered anymore I fully expect us to go into the season with what we have.
 
We just haven't got the money available like we all thought. We are so fecking tight it's unreal always trying to save here and there. People will now say "we don't want to get mugged in a deal" the same people that are moaning that we're not spending big money. The squad will see none of the money made from the new shirt deals, it will all go to servicing the debt and the glazers pockets.
With the money we make the debt should be near enough zero.
 
Think the Rojo signing has shown that we were never going to get the likes of Hummels, Di Maria, Benatia or Vidal for that matter... the Arturo muppets should take note and look to other decent midfielders with good combative traits and decent passing like de Jong.

If Blind was our midfield signing ahead of the likes of Vidal then I think we'd be worryingly one-paced in there.

We just paid a fee for a teenage left back and put him on a wage that even frightened off Chelsea. Doesn't sound too tight to me.

Here we go again, Moyes didnt have enough time last year LVG hasnt had enough time this year, yet new managers for other teams never seem to have this problem, its just poor excuses.

Agreed, it would cause the same issue we have had for some time, when we are pressed we struggle because we lack pace and athleticism in midfield. If Rojo is being bought that should put an end to Blind until we move to 4-3-3 at the earliest.

Saw the way Blind got outmuscled by dos Santos for the Mexico goal? Louis did too. De Jong would have not let that happen.

Moyes inherited a good squad. He didn't need to buy much.
LvG missed most of the pre-seaon due to the world cup.
Not an excuse at all. Just pointless buying for buying's sake.

maru's in Japan so it may actually be Sunday for him at kick off. I don't know for sure, that International date line fecks with my brain more than anything in this world.
 
I'm not usually one to call for muppet signings, but we only have 3 senior centre backs, and we're playing a 3 Cb system. Logic says we'll need to add to the squad. Having two young centre backs as backup seems a bit risky to me.

Saying that though, I can see the conundrum Van Gaal faces. No European football means less games, so a big money signing might make selection a fair bit complicated. Jones, Smalling and Evans do need a run of games.

I don't really think it is a conundrum. Quite clearly we fancied Hummels and Vermaelen, neither of whom would have come here to be a sub. If we bring in someone and they're better than Jones or Smalling then they should okay and hopefully spur on the other players to improve. I'm all for giving young players a chance but other than Evans, we don't have a centre half without big question marks over them.

It is not really quality the club is missing in defence, its numbers we are missing

That is the story of our defence and midfield
The defence is lacking quantity
The midfield is lacking quality

Ye if a Hummels or a top drawer centre half were to be brought in then that's a massive improvement in terms of quality and said player is a nailed on starter with Evans and one slot left for Smalling/Jones for whoever isn't injured or in form.

Manchester United are about signing players like Shaw and Ander Herrera, not big names in regards to the transfer window. I like it that way.

Man utd are about improving what they have got, not decide hey lets possibly go into the new season with just 5 senior first team defenders, 4 of them injury prone after losing ferdinand vidic evra and butner united need depth, and not decide to sign a CM player for 7 years.

Quality aswell, Jones, Smalling and Evans, truely only the red tainted glass supporters get their panties in a twist from these 3 mindboggling awesomness. About every neutral supporter I knew finds them average to decent at best and some find them complete utter shit at worst.

Kompany, T.Silva, Ramos, Hummels, Benatia, Mangala, Varane, Dante, Koscielny, Terry, Chiellini etc that is quality at the back, not fecking Jones, Smalling and Evans. They are ok as players to have in your team next to a real quality defender, but they do not represent real quality themselves and have a very long way to go before they could be considered as such.

Shaw and Ander Herrera in their positions are an improvement to what we have got, in case you haven't noticed.

I heard about the rojo deal, I was just responding to a poster by saying we are not about big name signings, which that mentality is not helping our cause has the biggest club in the world. Are we saying we have no right to sign big time players?

Shaw and herrera are like car parts, adding a wheel there, changing the engine, it still has not completed the car because other parts of the car are still not fixed. Just because we signed herrera and shaw does not mean we have vastly improved, they are sorting the rot out, but its not stopped the rot. Of course they will improve the squad, the squad still needs improving because the other parts of the squad are still not fixed. Real Madrid etc etc always look to improve, and we are long way from getting back to that, because the squad is in a rebuilding job. Look at united in 2008, we win the double in 2008, and spend another 30 million on a forward, and we already had ronaldo rooney and tevez. We have lost ferdinand vidic evra giggs scholes since 2012, do not care if they are past it, still got to replace that quality in different ways, let us not forget rooney and RVP are not getting any younger

No body has a divine right to any type of transfer. Truth of the matter is the BIG signings will always opt for Barca or Madrid over us, and the likes of City, PSG and Chelsea can offer crazy money.

Well if rafeal jones smalling evans were not so injury prone, that is a quality collection of defenders, we add shaw now that is some pretty outstanding defenders. Add some numbers to the defence, we got allot of depth. We will see with the Rojo deal, but no way can we go into the new season with this lot. What is frustrating for me, it is august 12th and we have only signed 2 players. It just gets my head scratching, the biggest club in the world finished 7th and the reaction seems like we are still ok

I wasn't saying that. I am quite alright with signing Mata and Van Persie, but people like you seem to forget very quickly that we actually buy such players, but they are not what we usually do transfer-wise. We buy young players with potential and develop them into better players, that's what we are about and that was what I was talking about.

Where did I say in my post you initially responed to that we don't have to improve further or have no right to sign players like di Maria or Vidal? I just said it's unlike us. I would love us to sign Hummels, bring in Schneiderlin, who isn't the big name either and maybe someone else, but as Ronaldo, Carrick, Evra, Vidic and Hernandez have shown, you don't always have to sign the big names. None of them was a big name, when they signed for us.
