Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

The only reason I still have cause for hope that we'll make some more signings before the window shuts is that at the end of the day, if LVG doesn't get us a top 4 finish come may; he's most probably gone. So as well as being a very smart man and knowing that our squad is a long way off where it should be, that should make him want to push for us to sign more top quality players too. He won't want that on record. And surely he isn't happy working with what he's got at the moment? Surely?

Going off what some of the more reliable journalists have said

In:
Blind - Likely
Hummels - Very unlikely
Vidal - Nobody has any idea
Ronaldo - In our dreams

Out
Fellaini - Probably on loan first
Anderson - God knows where
Hernandez - Seems very likely now
Nani - Will be a few clubs in for him

Given who we've lost and the fact there will be at least a couple of players Van Gaal will deem unsuited to the way he wants to play I'm confident we'll make one or two more signings. They may be more functional than glamorous but we'll strengthen. And I'm still holding out hope we'll get Vidal or someone else significantly better than what we have - either in defence or midfield. But even if we don't and we go with Blind or equivalent I'm confident we can quality for Europe this season with what we have with superior management and a bit of luck.

If we don't sign anybody else it will top last summer as the worst ever. Yes we signed Shaw and Herrera, 2 good players but losing Vidic, Rio and Evra sets us back massively, we can't afford to start the season with our current back 3 their injury record is appalling.

I think transfers have replaced the actual game of football for some folk. The start of the season is the end of theirs.

True looking forward to it shutting if we have bought a star signing then great but if not just look forward to the players we do have and the new attacking style we are developing.

Wasn't LVG on about a squad of 23 or something. We'll need to get rid of about 10 players in that case.

Christ this place is going to implode if we don't get players in be by September 1st

We have been trying in fairness, there's a big snub list that my mates keep bringing up to me every time we mention transfers.

I'd imagine there's a backup list of players as a last resort, like Fellaini last year, if the big deals don't come off then we'll prob sign a few players on deadline day that are geographically convenient, maybe McCarthy, Ron Vlaar, Schniederlin.

It's going to explode when we sign all those players before the deadline

I would say this summer was better than last simply as was the worst but we have managed to shift some of the deadwood this summer, even if we have only signed two players - both promising, neither remarkable.

We have had poor to average (at best) windows every since '07. JuSt look at the other top clubs.

I don't think anyone really thinks we will consistently show ambition in the transfer market relative to our (current) stature. This summer felt like it was going to be different though. There was an economic need to sign a few top players. Let's see, I guess

Rio and Evra are well past it and needed to go. Vidic still has something to offer but is beginning to decline and is getting very injury prone.

Herrera and Shaw are big upgrades in the two positions that should have been sorted last Summer.

Already this Summer is a huge improvement on last year when all we did was overpay for no reason at the last minute on a shambles of a player. Yes we have more to do in the next three weeks, but saying that we did better last Summer, as you are, is complete nonsense.

Imo we are done for the summer.

I don't believe that for a second, some people seem to adopt that attitude so they won't be disappointed but in reality we all expect at least 2 more signings.

If by some chance we don't sign anyone else we'll still say we're happier with LvG managing the squad we already have here than Moyesy managing a squad with Hummels, Di Maria and Vidal in it so it's a win win situation.

Can you really make a bet when you've got nothing to wager? You're already committed to a banning if we go Vidal-less, aren't you? :nervous:

Nothing to lose. Might as well make a martyr of myself.

For what it worth, have a look at my post from mid July, I made a point that my bet was based on his knee and if it doesn't go through because of his knee I'm sticking around :p

Edit - changed a word so I don't get banned again.

Should we be looking at Agger? Not too dissimilar to the Vermaelan deal we tried to do. Experienced centre back with good technical abilities and confident bringing the ball out of defence.

Arsenal and Spurs are apparently lining up £14m bids. I'd imagine he's 4th choice behind Lovren, Sahko and Skrtel now so maybe could be convinced to leave.

I know he has YAWN tattooed on his fingers but there's laser removal technology these days.

If he was at any other club you'd imagine he'd tick all LVG's boxes but never gonna happen for obvious reasons.

The MEN speculating we won't do much business before January.

MEN spout a lot of rubbish these days. But if it is true we may as well just write off this season because unless we stay injury free all season we won't make top four.

Are those not quotes from the tour? Pretty sure I've heard them before.

Liverpool are never going to sell him to United.

Although I really hope we sign a CM and another CB, if we dont sign anyone im still pretty optimistic about the future. We have a terrible campaign last season but the year before we were champions and a lot of the same players remain.

The likes of Jones, Smalling, De Gea, Januzaj etc should get better and better. Also hopefully some players will adapt well to LVGs philosophy and up their games as a pre season Young has done. On top of that we have also signed a new CM who looks promising and our attacking line up is as good as anyone in the league.

I suppose my hope is the LVG effect will be enough to take us to a new level. I would hope that a few of the young players will also get given a decent chance to impress such as Keane/Blackett as fourth choice CB, Lingard and Wilson.

So all in all as much as I would love us to sign Vidal and Benatia, if we dont I still think we will be ok

Plenty of reports doing the rounds that Louis van Gaal has been instructing those who do not figure in his plans to find themselves new clubs. It is being suggested that Rafael, Marouane Fellaini, Javier Hernandez, Anderson and Nani have all been told that they are free to leave Manchester United.

I'd be disappointed if Rafael left but with his injury record it might be the best for everyone. If we let all these players go without bringing in anyone hell will break loose.

Van Gaal wants a smaller squad he'll cast our 4-5 players and bring in maybe 1-2 who can cover multiple positions aka Blind.

Just read a tweet, probably BS, that M.E.N are reporting that we will not be making any signings this summer.

It doesn't really matter even if they have. M.E.N have repeatedly proven that they know completely feck all.
