Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

We're linked with a good few players now and there's no real way of knowing which ones we'll end up with.

It should be exciting, but tbh I'm just frustrated by the whole thing. Don't know if its just me.

join the club, looks to me like we won't sign anyone, none of the rumors seem to have any basis, Vermaelen did but Arsenal fecked us to make sure he went to Barca.

none of the other supposed targets have anything like as much reliable sources saying they will happen.

we will regret not signing anyone hugely imo, really ticked off if we don't as well.

Just because there isn't a source doesn't mean we aren't trying to sign someone.

1 down, 3 to go...

I like that. Cuadrado is missing on the list. We are heavily linked with him.

Anyway one week to go until our season starts. Do we think we will wrap everything up until then and sell the deadwood?
I'm secptical. Might be one or two deadline day transfers I fear.

I believe there is a good chance we might scramble on deadline day and end up with nothing or someone who the caf do not rate at 0:00 am.

Luckily this time we already did our blockbuster signings early in Herrera and Shaw.

So fickle and whimsical when it comes to transfers... We're one week away from the season with just three first squad central defenders and it seems that we still can't make up our mind.

I think we'll start seeing movement in the next week, we've already attempted to buy Vermaelen.

I believe LVG when he wanted to see exactly what the players could do, he would have let them know who he wants and doesn't want this week. Expect comings and goings in the near future.

Manager was in the world cup til 3 weeks ago. And he wanted to see the squad and analyse who he wants and doesn't want himself. Its just painful for us because we went through it last year too, but this is the more logical way of buying players. Most top teams have a director of football these days, who decides what players etc come in with or without the managers approval. I highly doubt Ancelotti asked for James Rodriguez. He was simply bought and Carlo got told to fit him in the team somehow.

Something tells me we may see Blackett in the first eleven sooner than later. It may take even up to two weeks for new targets to fully accommodate.

What would United do without good old academy & reserves.

It does sound logical indeed even when we're risking further injuries and squad holes which is never a good thing especially at the beginning of a new campaign. I don't even blame Louie for smallest thing in that matter. Many managers would just crack in his place with that amount of chaos and damage to repair.

The pressure is epic and we'll need some fast but solid plan to pull something positive from this window. On the other hand thankfully Shaw and especially Herrera quickly adapted on tour.

Herrera and Shaw are not "Blockbuster" signings!

Hames, Suarez, Bale, Neymar, Vidal maybe

Not those two!

Vidal and Benatia are the 2 we need to give this season a real go, the rest we are linked with would just be icing IMO.

Me too. It's a fecking joke. We should be buying a handful of top draw players this summer. This is what we need and what we were led to believe would happen by Woody and co.

Bizarre you would call those blockbuster signings. You really think that they were of that profile? I don't think we have had a blockbuster signing in the last ten years. Maybe RVP.

I agree

Shaw and herrera are a top clubs bread butter signings, they are expected signings, they replace ageing players like a carrick and evra. Now what the big clubs do, they build from there and add to their squad. United seem like the extreme case, they are very willing to go into season's under strengthened. Like I have said countless times, since 2009 we have not had a squad strong enough and we have gambled every season, and last season we gambled one time too many times with either bringing in the wrong players, or signing the wrong manager and its cost us big time. And it looks too me once again, we could be going into a PL season with a squad not deep enough in certain area's, and it could bite us on the backside again

So all that's happened today is that we've missed out on one of our primary targets. One down, two failures to go. We've learned nothing from last summer.

I think we'll sign our targets soon but it's such a shame that we're so late and most likely none will be ready for the start of the season, van gaal himself said that players will need time to adapt to his ideas so we're looking at any new signing missing from 2 to 4 games.

Can't quite believe there are 8 days to go until the season starts & we have 5 players to sell, and at least 3 players to buy, could be a fun 2- 3 weeks ahead.

The only shock is that people are shocked we are missing out on targets.

We are like a 16 year old virgin trying to take the bra off Kelly Brook, fumbling everywhere, no idea what we are doing and ultimately not getting the prize.

Atleast we have a world record kit deal though eh.

There's no two ways about it, this has been another shambles of a transfer window. Can't believe we've sat with our thumb up our arse again.

Aye it's not good that's for sure, unless something big happens between now and Sept 1st they certainty won't be able to con everyone with talk of a big spending spree in the transfer window next summer if things go tits up this season.

I still probably stupidly retain some optimism for this window, but the hope is slowly draining away.

Herrera and Shaw on their own are nowhere near good enough. As things stand, this is a very poor window. I was feeling quite calm, but this is starting to echo last summer now.

I'm all for developing youth and bringing players through the ranks, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a homegrown player blossom and become a quality player after being at United from a young age. I don't expect big names coming in every summer or even want that to be the case, that's when it becomes a circus like it is at Madrid, but this summer really has to be an exception.

We're facing a situation that we haven't faced in over 20 years, last season we failed and I refuse to believe Woodward can be stupid enough to make the same mistakes this summer. I understand LVG wanted to assess the current squad before bringing players in but surely it was so obvious that we needed at least one centre back and at least another centre mid even after getting Herrera.

It's not like this has all come as a surprise, we've known for months that players were needed and some signings should have at least been in the works so that they could be completed quickly when LVG gave the go ahead. I get that we had to change some targets but Woodward has sounded extremely confident over the summer so I assume he was making progress. We've already made two good signings but even they were sloppy. Shaw rumbled on since January and Herrera basically took a year.

Can't help but be pessimistic. I might sound spoilt because our pre-season was basically flawless but we need more quality.

I'm more worried about the players we haven't got rid of yet, especially without CL football so much money being wasted on wages.

it'd be great to get the inside truth on this window wouldn't it.

What made Woodward so certain about 3 weeks ago, and has something changed, or was it just bluster.

From about May we've had various posters say, "don't worry, it's only may...june...july...early august etc"

Now it's 1 week to the first game! Why do things get left so late?

If we really did decided to wait until after the tour and after taking a look at the players on pre season to start more transfers then that was silly. I don't believe it's true though I just thinks it's more incompetence.

There was no need to assess the players - it was abundantly clear where we were weak. Before the tour, we needed a CB, a CM and a wide player. We still need those players, but now we're only a week from the season. What a fecking shambles.

It's not just about numbers, though. It's also about deciding what sort of midfielder we need, what type of centerhalf we need, etc. I don't think it's been a shambles. It's the reality of changing managers for the second year running, in a club that does not work with a Director of Football, and also having that manager arriving late because of the World Cup. Just shitty reality.

Everything LVG has done and said about needing time to assess his players been entirely reasonable. If youre going to take on a mug like Moyes then there are certain consequences attached to that like having to fire him, taking on a new manager who'll need time to see what needs.

LVG said from day one he'd need 3-4 weeks to look at things. People getting butthurt because that actually is happening are either deluded, stupid or both.

If only someone would, if only...

When was the last time we had a successful transfer window?

If only someone would, if only...

A club insider known to me through family has said we are not even interested in Vidal and Juve and his representatives are trying to push a move. Similar with Hummels, Garay and Cavani no interest.

Woodward had done work on Kroos Carvalho and Coleman who were Moyes three targets along with Shaw- he said Shaw signing was sealed wen members of the board approved it having watched him play against us last game
Of last season.
He tells me there is interest in Blind but said nothing else is planned as yet but agents from
Many clubs offering players cos we can pay the top wages.

Will be interesting to see what else happens now

Surely we are going to make more signings right?!
I believe Van Gaal kept all transfers on hold until he had the oportunity to take a look at the squad in pre-season. This may or may not cost us.

The signings we make in the next few weeks will show.

When was the last time we had a successful transfer window?

Summer 2007 is the first that comes to mind - Hargeaves, Anderson, Nani and Tevez (on loan), the first three completed pretty early in the window, and resulted in both the league title and the Champions League.

Since then, maybe summer 2012 with Kagawa and RVP which lead to number 20? But of course there was the Hazard saga, which obviously didn't go our way.

If we aren't going to replace those players then we might as well keep them, wages are easily covered right now, especially with old guard already gone, wage bill needs to go up, not down.

Butthurt I am not, but LvG was supposed to have told Ed before the WC who can go, and who he wants, seems a bit daft to think we would leave it all until mid August until any decisions are made.
