Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Nothing in the transfer forum is plausible until it's done though. I can barely come up with a hypothetical question based on players we are certainly linked with.

Now that I think of it, is there any official interest from us in any player at the moment?

There's no such thing as "official interest"

All of them can be improved under the coaching of Van Gaal & his team.
Cleverley took a massive nosedive under Moyes & Nani has all the ability to be a real class player. 1 off season doesn't mean they're no longer able to perform at the highest level. With the right manager and system things can change!

cleverly is a good squad player, nothing special.
Anderson has hit the point of no return
fletcher's chronic illness has stripped him of being the player he once was
fellaini lets be serious here
young another above average wide player
nani is 27 not 21 anymore, he is not going to get any better

Do we want the same BS again? getting the best out of above average players, or do we want to become a great side again?

The reality is? if united truly want to get back to where they were, and I do not mean between 2009 - 13, I am talking about 94 99 08, changes have to be made. Our current midfield is not going to get us far against the top teams, and against smaller teams, we always struggle

It's not just been "1 off season" for most of them though. That's just an excuse people use to hold on to them.

Cleverley didn't take a nosedive under Moyes at all, he was average under Fergie bar a decent spell at the beginning of 12/13 (I think it was that season?) and aside from that he's been the player we saw last season. I was behind Nani staying up until now but it's got to the point where it's pointless, he's just not consistent enough to hold down a spot here bar the 18 month period where the penny seemed to have finally dropped but it evidently hasn't, he's had his time. Then you have players like Young, Fletcher & Anderson who are no where near being good enough.

I've got a feeling we'll see some activity this week, either a new arrival or a sale, maybe both.

So, who do you think will be the next confirmed (i) purchase and (ii) sale?

I agree, there is no way in hell are we going to get far with this current batch this season, the champions league exposed this midfield for what they were above midfield. I think liverpool in march 2009 exposed the early days of this midfield, hargreaves injury's were starting to pile up, anderson from this point on was slowly starting to regress, fletcher was on the up until his chronic illness. And Barcelona in may 2009 in rome, should have seen the wake up call for fergie with his midfield that was not up to scratc, but he choose to ignore it. Barcelona in may 2009 should have been the wake up call to building a new midfield for the future, carrick and fletcher was a great starting point back then, and the consequences of not building on from our hatrick of titles we ended up 7th

Apart from herrera, we will see how he does.

If we pile up the midfield options of - carrick flether anderson fellaini cleverly valencia nani young

How many would get into those top sides? nani possibly juventus. Apart from that, I have a hard time seeing anyone in our CM/wide options improving any top side. Mata kagwa and janazaj are more number 10's than midfielders

Purchase (unfortunately) - Vermaelen.

Sale - Ashely Young to Villa *Crosses fingers*

I think we will get Vermaelen and De Jong. Nice summmer it will have been.

These Cavani rumors never make any sense to me whatsoever. But they are so persistent... maybe there is some interest?
Could be some truth in it, I meant they have already spent there allowed budget on Luiz and as reports say they are interested and favorites to sign Di-Maria so to comply with FFP they would need to sell a few players. Cavani isnt happy at PSG as he isnt being played in his favored position so would welcome a move, but United wont buy him. LVG wouldnt leave out RVP to play Cavani, unless Cavani wants to play as a winger which is doubtful. This signing doesnt make much sense unless we are selling Rooney and Kagawa and maybe Cavani would be the No.10 with Mata out wide, or if LVG wants to play with a front 2, realistically cant see this coming off as the money needs spent better in other areas. Our main focus should be defence.

Hope we don't give PSG £50m so they can work their way out of FFP and after buying another of our targets.

Why would we fork 50 million on Cavani along with big wages ? That would be so pointless unless we have couple of strikers including Rooney leaving atleast.

One for the muppets:

Would you rather have...

A) Hummels, Vidal and James

or,

B) Varane, Kroos and Di Maria

It's too freaking hard to decide for me.
Comfortably A for me.

Comfortably A for me.

Kroos is at madrid
James wants to play in LA liga
I don't think varane would move here.

We are possibly singing di Maria and Vidal tho... Who are amongst the best of the cm/winger options that are available this summer.

The question was which would you prefer

Hearing James Ducker has been saying a lot of the transfer rumours surrounding United are a bit overblown this lunchtime on his webchat. Saying all the stuff about Vidal is Juve's attempt to create a market for him and that United haven't actively gone after him or Di Maria. Also blamed Moyes for last summer's transfer mess and said Van Gaal is more likely to like Rafael than Moyes. Said Evra's wife wants to leave Manchester and has for years, which is why the club are letting him go. Also mentioned that Van Gaal wants a 23 man squad and we will look to offload players.

So do we still believe lots of deals will be finalized (ins and outs) before the club goes on this US tour?

~~tumbleweed~~

Is that a joke ?

I hope so, obviously their social media is run by some childish idiot. There really was no need for the mid table bit other than to wind up United fans. Not sure a mid table club would have made that Adidas announcement yesterday but well done ITV, classy as ever.

How can that be true when Vidal has himself come out saying that we are one of the biggest clubs in the world and he will consider his future later.

Tweet Ducker and ask him.

OK. I admit it, we haven't been linked yet, but we'd have to look if he is available:
http://www.marca.com/2014/07/14/futbol/equipos/real_madrid/1405354222.html

Varane has not signed a new contract yet - nor is a deal thought to be close - his contract runs out next summer. Not surprisingly he's looking for a good payrise and a first team role. Chelsea are the only club named as having contacted his agent, but the article also mentions that other French clubs and PL clubs are awaiting developments.

Incidentally Benzema, who also has 12 months left on his contract, is expected to sign a new deal.

Never fear, we've only got another six and a half weeks of being "linked" with players to go in this window, then the "links" for the January window can start. Mind you, with the signings other teams are making the number of links is decreasing rapidly. The hacks will have to become ever more inventive with their links!

Personally I don't think there's any value in the market...............

I don't see that Ancelotti wouldn't give him his raise..

So who are our other targets ? Everyone says that we want to make possibly 3/4 signings more but all the persistent links have only been about Vidal really.

Now with the WC over surely we would want to make moves ASAP.

I'm wondering if we've actually got any other targets - that is, assuming Vidal really is a target.
