Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Sensible clubs says that. Every club goes for value in the marked but what truly gives value for money is up to the club itself to decide. Fergie had an unique position in the club which made him able to build a team in a different way than others. He didnt want to see the club spend insane amounts of money on players who werent worth it.

It was not about spending huge amounts during those 4 seasons, we never spend enough, if fergie felt like that, why in the hell did he spend 17 million on Ashley young ? If 17 million for Ashley young is value for money, then there is no hope

And 7M for Bebe...doesnt always make sense. If the player really is top class it doesnt really matter if we pay 30M or 40M for anyway

Giggs speaking yesterday about players who have played in the WC wanting a week off after they have got knocked out. Clearly we are in discussions with at least one or two players from the WC. Just have to see who it is. Unless he was referring to Shaw previously, but he wasnt talking about how he expected ''more signings to be made''.

It would link in nicely with Vidal and his knock out. But this is muppet talk.

epic fail from gary neville

I saw alex shaw's tweet on neville

G. Nev under Moyes: "I honestly don't think it needs a rebuild." With LVG at MUFC: "Won't be a revolution unless they sign 7, 8 or 9."

Have you seen united's midfield gary? and did you check who has left united Gary? ferdinand vidic evra giggs, this is not going to be a revolution? lol

This has some muppetry to it but:

Doesn't the club have a office in London and Pogba is in London plus we are negotiating with Juve already.

I think it could be Vidal off but PogbON.

When do we actually start to sell players? None of our players are even linked with other clubs, by which I mean the players most likely to be shipped out.

It's not that I desperately want to see players leave, but if we actually go onto sign 2-3 standout players, we will surely have to trim the squad down a bit.

Evra and Hernandez represent the better players likely to leave, players most people would probably be happy to keep. But will we retain all of Fellaini, Cleverley, Young, Anderson, Bebe, Nani...?

There have been a few rumours, Newcastle want Zaha, Everton want Cleverley, Juve want Evra, Juve want Nani even had Arsenal want Smalling. But just like our targets probably all media talk with no substance. LVG is probably unware of most of these players. I expect him to keep almost all of them until January.

That just gives me shivers the thought of all of cleverly Anderson fellaini fletcher nani young Zaha and bebe all staying at the club next season

Arsenal with Sanchez, Chelsea with Fabregas and Costa. We need to spend more if we want to consider this summer as "succesful" IMO.

Must have missed most of those, apart from Evra and Nani. I doubt he'd want to keep a squad of 25-30 players with 10 unhappy players for 4-5 months. Surely he'll trim the squad, both for morale and financial concerns. Some of those players don't have a high enough ceiling for him to work his magic. And if we were to really go on a spree, like many seem to think and even ex players are calling out for, that could be Di Maria, Vidal and Hummels/Vermaelen (I don't think it's unrealistic in terms of money, rather whether they'd actually fancy joining) then that would be too big a squad given that LVG also introduces youths into the first team fold...

No offense but, I think believing in a Pogba transfer is ridiculous. I don't think United would want to damage their image by doing so.

One for the muppets:

Would you rather have...

A) Hummels, Vidal and James

or,

B) Varane, Kroos and Di Maria

It's too freaking hard to decide for me.

He has to balance the books, I look at midfield and we got way to many average players on undeserved wages, like fellaini young and nani. Guys like cleverly bebe and anderson could also be moved on it reduces the wage bill even more, but I think he will keep cleverly, as he is a player LVG could improve. If LVG goes for an overhaul of the midfield, and moves on the likes of anderson fellaini zaha young nani bebe hernandez, which joins ferdinand vidic evra butner, that wipes one third of the clubs wage bill, giving him a huge advantage to sign a few stellar players, and gives the club the room with that many average players off the wage bill. You can promote lingard and powell, and all the club has to do is sign another midfielder and a wide player, as we would already have carrick herrera cleverly fletcher valencia janazaj kagwa mata powell and another CM and a wide player coming. I think he will keep cleverly and fletcher for more squad depth, but defiantly I see him moving on fellaini anderson nani young bebe and hernandez which joins ferdinand vidic evra butner. Its a good balance, its not a complete overhaul, and it gives the club enough depth in midfield to build on for august

Can you imagine how much wages would be off the books if all of ferdinand vidic evra butner fellaini anderson nani young bebe hernandez could give the clubs books?

B) Easily. Kroos is the nearest thing to a sat nav on the pitch since Scholes. Vidal is class but there are closer things to him..Gundogan pre injury......than there is to Kroos. Varane is a world class CB prospect and Di Maria can be as good as a young giggs.

A would be my choice as much as I like Kroos. James is just  and can you imagine him in front of Vidal and Herrera in a midfield three? Hummels goes without saying.

All of them can be improved under the coaching of Van Gaal & his team.
Cleverley took a massive nosedive under Moyes & Nani has all the ability to be a real class player. 1 off season doesn't mean they're no longer able to perform at the highest level. With the right manager and system things can change!

A.

But feck me that is one tough decision.

Seeing as Hummels is better than Varane, Vidal is better than Kroos and James is as good as Di Maria it's a no brainer.

A. Always A.

Hummels is better than Varane ATM. The defence would benefit from his experience.
Kroos is great but our midfield needs more penetration and energy.
James is better than Di Maria in a purely attacking sense and will sell a trillion shirts for Woody.

Can we at least have hypothetical questions that are at least possible otherwise it's a complete waste of time

Why would James sell more shirts than Di Maria?

I disagree though. Hummels is better than Varane, the latter might be a better choice in the long run still. I prefer Kroos to Vidal, and finally, in my view James is nowhere near Di Maria at the moment. One World Cup doesn't change that for me.

Nothing in the transfer forum is plausible until it's done though. I can barely come up with a hypothetical question based on players we are certainly linked with.

Now that I think of it, is there any official interest from us in any player at the moment?

Hummels is only 25, it's not like he'd be a short term solution. James has been consistently good for a while. Kroos is too static to play next to Herrera IMO, we need someone more mobile with energy.
