Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Vidal on top of his on the ball quality, would add leadership which is much desperately needed in the midfield. Best signing we could make.

This is the "all in" signing we need to make, even if it means putting a full stop to any further transfer business. We're of course not going to lift the CL trophy this season, so there's no point in trying to build a squad capable of pulling that off.

Bag a prem trophy this season with the squad we have now plus Vidal and then make the appropriate changes next summer, which may require upgrading at CB or RB. I'm confident Louis can get more out of this squad than most of us expect. Moyes was a clueless fukk and the players revolted on him. I even expect fewer injuries than we've had over the last five years.

We're going to have to make some signings pretty soon if Van Gaal's wish to have all the new signings on the pre-season tour is to be fulfilled.

Things seem to have ground to a halt after Herrera and Shaw, clearly they were the only deals anywhere near completion when the window opened.

Hasn't it been said United have stopped leaking news? Not even Odgen seems to no what's happening, The Herrera deal came out of no where to who's to say we're not doing that with other deals.

What's this I'm hearing about Zaha? Any truth to it?
Logical really. Clearly he showed nothing in training that would justify a first team place in his time here, and next to nothing on loan at Cardiff.

Van Gaal will no doubt have been given a damning assessment of him by (probably) Giggs and will have made the decision on that basis.

I didn't say we weren't doing deals, I said there were clearly none near completion when the window opened.

Out of the targets that we are linked with:

- Hummels, Kroos, Schweinstiger, still at WC with Germany
- The entire Dutch team, still in WC
- Angel Di Maria, still at WC with Argentina
- Vidal & Sanchez, only a week since Chile is knocked out, probably on holiday

Relax :D

I swear his fee grows by £10m every week.

Er, Victor Valdes is hardly a "legendary player" is he? Also, why would we be in for him when we already have De Gea, who is the arguably better GK?

Must be easy being a sports "journalist".

£50m for Rodriguez would be a good price. £60m would be steep but probably worth it. Anything above is a no go.

Have the Sunday People or the Express ever been right about anything, ever?

Wasn't it the Express who ran a full back page story about United signing Lennon for £40m a few years back?

I dont think the next signings are going to be the mega bucks signings the press and some of the fanbase seem to be expecting.

Why you think this?

Simply cost.
I think we have too many players on the books at the moment for our current playing commitments (domestic competitions only) a lot of which we simply are not going to be able to move on and are on huge wages.

Throwing in another 2 or 3 huge signings on big wages would be fantastic and I would love it to happen, but I dont think from a financial standpoint its going to happen until we dump some more players.

Just imagine the shirts he'd sell. Make it back in no time.

Indeed. I've heard that Real Madrid earned £7bn in the first week from Ronaldo's arrival thanks to shirt sales.

He almost certainly has a relatively reasonable release clause. For an agent not to barter for one on the whole Monaco project would be idiotic.

Mendes is his agent though, isn't he? He won't mind finding him a club for £60m and getting his share in the profit.

He'd fit in with Woodward's handsome eleven plans too.
He'd join Chicarito on that baby-faced niche.

Or he just could have been taking the piss out of the ridiculous notion that shirt sales recoup transfer fees?

He must mean million. 7 million doesn't seem to far fetched. Costs roughly 85 euros to have a Ronaldo shirt. That would require 82,353 shirts being sold to make 7m euros.

£7 million is likely, though its always worth asking whether those are sales that would have happened anyway. If you're going to get a shirt anyway and you choose Ronaldo because he's the new star, then that's not an extra sale.

Well you also have to consider how much profit the club makes on shirt production as well. But it's feasible to assume that a club could make 3/4m per season based on shirt sales from a "star player". Ronaldo and Messi are extremes. I imagine if we resigned Ronaldo everyone would go Ronnie crazy and buy feck loads of shirts.

Don't know myself, but Mendes is clever himself. It's Monaco, they have a project with no proof. Any agent who brokers a deal with that kind of club - a recently promoted team with money, which is what they were when they bought him - would provide some sort of getaway for their clients. This is why players pay agents in the first place. To Madrid he goes!

Hm alot of costs go into making shirts and then there is the profits being split between Nike, the club.. the player? so my comment was rather tongue in cheek. He's still a very commercially attractive player, everyone seems to like him.. even Pogue.

I was kidding, tongue in the cheek at people who think you can recoup money spent on a player in shirt sales. :)

The James Rodriguez link is very very exciting, back when we were originally linked I was super excited to have him and was comparing his play to Nani and Ronnie.

It would relaly match up with Woodward wanting a player that could "win the ballon d'or" it certainly would be more exciting than Cavani and make more sense, put him on the LW and watch him terrorise the prem. I could imagine Real then coming in for him much similarly to when they did for Ronnie.

However I think that ship has LONG LONG gone, Madrid tend to snap whoever they want up to just make sure they dont miss out.

I would cream if he came which in my eyes means he wont. Di Maria more likely.....unless everyone snubs him and thus Real dont have the cash for Rodriguez?!!

German paper Wolfsburger Allgemeine say United have put in a solid bid for Rodriquez. Ricardo Rodrriquez that is.

Edit: I just read it, seems pretty made up.
Maybe we sell Evra and want Rodriguez and Shaw to battle for the spot though, but he's too expensive for that I guess.

Smart and welcome move if true. Competition for places and learning off each other. Im in if the fee is in the 10m range.

It's not really smart at all considering he'd cost £20m minimum and is currently better than Shaw. We didn't just spend £30m on him to be back up and we don't need to be rotating them every week when they're both at the stage where they need regular game time.
