Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Ogden's said today we're after at least one more defender & an energetic/creative midfidler. Says we're likely to bid for Vidal and are also interested in any of De Jong, Blind, De Vrij, Carvalho & Cavani. Nani, Hernandez, Anderson, Young & Cleverley could apparently leave.
So no truth in Carvahlo rumours? I hope we don't sign blind either.

Cleverley sold? I'm not his biggest fan but surely we'd be better off selling Fletcher or even Fellaini before him.

Wouldn't really want any of the Dutch players tbh, I'd take De Jong if we don't get Carvalho though as I like him & yeah I'd much rather see them two leave before Cleverley even though I don't think any of them are good enough.

Ahh my bad didn't see him. Agree the only Dutch players id like is Strootman, maybe Depay and De Jong (if we don' get our first choice targets

I wouldn't say no to signing Blind, but no instead of someone else who we need more

People laughed at being linked with Owen too, called him a scouse bastard etc, we celebrated his goal against City all the same.

Don't know if you remember him but a guy called Alex Ferguson spoke glowingly about Kuyt in his book.
An old Owen was twice the player Kuyt was and is. He's terrible, you're only wanting him because he's Dutch and LvG has played him recently.

Weird selection there from Ogden but almost all of them would be a huge improvement over Fellaini and Cleverley

Hard to know what to make of what's happening at the moment, there's surely something in these links to Carvalho, Vidal, Vermaelen & De Vrij but we'll surely not being signing all 4

Carvalho and Vidal are arguably needed together, especially if LvG plans on moving a few out. Vermaelen and De Vrij on the other hand are not. One out of the two but not both.

we're not going to be signing 3 mids for big fees in one summer!

You can't have Vidal, Herrera and Carvalho in one team surely, as it makes it even fiddlier to fit Rooney/Mata/Kagawa etc in

I think Vidal and Carvalho would be overkill. You're looking at around £30m for Cavalho and lord knows what for Vidal. Given we've added Herrera then I think one of them with him and you've got a strong or at least stronger midfield, with Rooney/Mata competing for the other spot in the middle then we'd be putting one of them on the bench which seems unnecessary at the prices we'd be paying. Especially with Carrick imo having plenty to offer in the next 2 seasons or so.

Its amazing to think after how our midfield has looked for the last few years we are feasibly contemplating a midfield of Vidal and Herrera!

I like Carrick but if we got both Vidal and Carvalho I'd quite happy see Carrick benched. We need to move forward as we are being left behind. We are way too immobile in the centre

Well he would likely be benched if we got Vidal i.e. Vidal and Herrera, if we got Cavalho and not Vidal then I think Carrick would have every chance of being a regular. But if we got Vidal and Carvalho then one of Carvalho/Herrera would be benched as well and that seems a bit ott given we're not in europe and got Carrick and a few others who can provide cover.

Sounds like he is just throwing out names that he has seen on here and hoping one is right!

F'ck me he's like an incredible ITK oracle!

Who would know we're after a defender and another midfielder?
And he's managed to narrow our list down to a mere 5 players!

He'd have come up with that leaving list just by sniffing through this forum.
An absolute plum.

Aye, definitely seems like he was just covering all bases with what he said today. All a load of shite most probably.

Carvahlo at the base, Herrera and Vidal as box to box CM's in front of him, ideal midfield 3 rather than using a number 10 in there.

Ogden's article looked like it was just a rehash from one published about 4-6 weeks ago, bar the bit on Herrera and Shaw signing. Although I'm sure he wrote the original then, it wouldn't surprise me if the Telegraph just made the adjustments themselves, based on rumour.

they won't have the creativity Mata would offer though.

Not to mention that we spent 37m on him, and also have the monstrously well paid Rooney to fit in.

Can't see us signing Carvalho & Vidal this summer and Strootman in Jan. Unless we sell Fletcher, Fellaini, Anderson & Cleverley which I can't see happening. Saying that I think we've only got one more season left in Carrick before I think we should be looking at replacing him, maybe then we'll sign Strootman.

Which is why I said 'arguably'. IF LvG gets rid of a few too then I can see two midfielders coming in. Perhaps not Carvalho AND Vidal but I could see one of those two and another coming in.

We needed at least two anyway and now Giggsy has retired and Fletch doesn't seem to me to be able to contribute to the level he used to so perhaps two high profile midfield signings are crucial. We need quality in there not quantity.

Yeah well if he did a complete clear out then that might be necessary even then though I don't think we'd spend c£90m on cm alone in one season, particularly when we're not in CL. I'd imagine that in that case the third signing would largely be filler rather than someone like Carvalho who isn't going to want to sit on the bench. Signing someone of Vidal and Herrera addresses the main weakness anyway for me which was a lack of genuine first team worthy players. I'm not a big fan of Clev but he can definitely do a squad role and I think Fletch might surprise people with a full pre-season, I doubt he'll be close to his old self but def can do a squad job if he wants.

Personally I think we'd be doing very well if we could add Vidal and probably ship out Fellaini and Ando. We'd have a good mix of options which we could maybe then look to build on next summer. I'd much rather any extra cash be spent on a class winger/defender.

We will only need to sign one, as we can easily build a midfield 3 of Herrera/mata and another, 2 in CM and mata the number 10

A couple of names of players who aren't coming.

Muniain - has renewed with Athletic, clause rises to €45m
Oliver Torres - is going on loan to Oporto from Atletico

Add Young, Anderson and Fletcher to that list.

And add Vidal, Hummels, Sanchez to incoming

I said on the other thread about fellaini, I would move fletcher and anderson on before kicking fellaini out the door. The thing with carrick cleverly and fletcher these days, they are all very much the same, because of fletchers illness he is not that all action midfielder, so he plays it simple, much like cleverly and carrick. All 3 are not going to offer us anything off the bench, none of them score goals, which fellaini has shown for everton he can pop up with some big goals if he is given the confidence.

Who I feel should be moved on and who has moved on

ferdinand vidic butner so far, fletcher anderson nani young bebe hernandez

That is enough players in the first team that LVG could be moved on, in an ideal world I would add fellaini and cleverly to the list. But realistically, the club could not sell all of cleverly fellaini anderson and fletcher, its too soon. But over the space of 3 years I expect all of carrick fletcher fellaini cleverly and anderson to have left the club

According to Mitten we're actively purusing 2 or 3 players and are confident of getting deals done.
