Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Adding on to Santos J's post, for those of you that don't know, Andy Mitten has a Playup page available on Apple and Android (search for it in the store). Then search 'United We Stand' or 'Andy Mitten'. The contents are free until the start of the season.

Hummels is my muppet centre back. He's a lovely player and handsome. I like handsome players.

A couple of names of players who aren't coming.

Muniain - has renewed with Athletic, clause rises to €45m
Oliver Torres - is going on loan to Oporto from Atletico

Lopetegui will be a smart choice for Torres and if Porto can qualify through the CL playoffs, even better. Hope Tello joins him

My list of players to sell: young, Valencia (that wont happen sadly), fellaini, fletcher (feel dirty now), anderson.

Would happily keep hernandez, clev, nani.

My list of players that need to be Chloroformed & bundled into the back of a van for a road trip:

1. .............
2. .............
3. .............
4. .............
5. .............

Sorry for the confusion here, but this list is now past tense.. and for legal reasons i shall move along quietly whistling to myself..

So the only players we had lined up pre WC was Shaw and Herrera then. Now its into normal business, I dont think any of the other players Utd are proposed to be in for are waiting for the WC to finish to finalise deals as some have.

LVG has definitely increased his reputation though (not that he needs it) but bought it to peoples minds, this is good for us!

However there is definitely some players out there for the taking, lets hope we get some. 2 of the below would be a muppets dream:

Hummels, Di Maria, Sanchez, Vidal, Kroos, Pogba

Surprised no Draxler rumours, I know he dropped off a bit, but thats surely a decent time to buy him. He's clearly a top player.

I'm still assuming these guys are going to be sold/released:

Nani, Cleverly, Anderson, Fletcher, Young, Hernandez?!

I think it makes sense how big clubs are offering their players to us.

They know we have money, and we're not a CL so we won't be a threat to them for at least a season. We're the ideal buyer.

But players will make it difficult since we aren't in Europe they'll be reluctant to join.

He's already announced that he's definitely staying at Schalke for another year.

Was the guy that wrote the Express article high?

MANCHESTER UNITED are closing in on a sensational triple swoop for Juventus star Arturo Vidal, Monaco winger James Rodriguez and Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, and are also confident of winning the race to Arsenal and Liverpool target Alexis Sanchez.

We don't need to do the complete rebuild this year. We're only competing on one font really. The league cup I fully expect a return to form and the kids getting their chance in that competition and the FA Cup isn't an immediate concern. Lay the groundwork this year, get back into the CL and next summer at one or two more names.

I do feel this season is a great chance to improve the starting 11, and for me like I said the players that need to go, are fletcher Anderson nani young bebe and I expect fellaini to leave also. I would also move on kagwa as we do not need both mata and kagwa

So it's not a overhaul, just removing the deadwood of the squad, let's see Powell and Zaha fill the kagwa and young positions, and sign a CM a wide player CB position and possibly another RB

With the additions of Shaw, Herrera, and another CM apparently on the way that's an improvement already. But van Gaal perhaps wants to see what the academy players can too as well, as giving them a chance is one of the certainties of his reign IMO.

It is, but we still need another wide player and 2 defenders for me

Only if we play with two wingers

I think we need one either way as we are lacking in quality in that area, the thought of still having all 3 of Valencia nani and young on the books gives me shivers. And how Valencia got a new contract boggles the mind

I think it is clear that we still need:

A Centre Back
Another Central midfielder
A Winger

The ideal signings for me would be:
Hummels
Vidal
Sanchez / di Maria

However I am not sure any of these are realistic without being able to offer CL football.

Who are the "realistic" alternatives?

Centre-half: Schär, Musacchio, Veltman, de Vrij, Manolas, Mustafi, Inigo Martinez, etc.
Midfield: Allan, L. Bender, Saul Niguez, Gonalons, Blind, Strootman, Carvalho, Geis, etc.
Width: Depay, Firmino, Griezmann, Draxler, etc.

Whether they'd be good enough is a different matter, but there's plenty of talent out there.

I would add a right back to that list, with rafeal spending 4 months a season on the sidelines on average

Surely LVG will sign atleast 1 sort of Mandatory Dutch player after the WC ?

Depay makes the most sense depending on how he rates him, if we don't get a established wide man.

Vidal on top of his on the ball quality, would add leadership which is much desperately needed in the midfield. Best signing we could make.
