Manchester United transfer news and rumours for summer 2014

Shaw, Kroos and Carvalho I think we have a decent chance of getting, simply because of Carvalho's buyout clause and Kroos' contract situation.

Cavani isn't needed. Robben I think will stay at Bayern. Reus and Hummels will stay put still next summer unless the reported £60m we was gonna splash on Cavani we spend on Reus since big Ed is looking for a marquee signing and I think Dortmund would rather sell for £50-60m this summer rather than £35m next summer. Mangala is City bound, Muller I have a feeling will end up at Barca as might Reus. Fabregas is a difficult one, he adds strength in depth for Barca so would they really sell him? Arsenal will have him anyway if he's up for grabs, if they can afford his wages.

Either way, this is a huge summer for Ed Woodward, if he fails in this window again then he has to be blamed.

That would mean matching our bid which would be in excess of £40m when they desperately need a striker and they'd be strengthening their already strong midfield. That's the least of their worries.

They spent £40m on Ozil last season and with the PL TV money increasing along with their kit deal with Puma and UCL money increasing, I think they can afford him and he'd be a major upgrade on Arteta too.

You're missing the point, why spend £40m on a midfielder when they need a striker, not to mention their defence is a bit shaky too. It would be like us buying Cavani, pointless. I'm not saying they can't afford £40m but they'd be better off putting that money to better use elsewhere looking for a Benzema, Higuain, basically a good striker.

hopefully shaw is a done deal and will be complete before the world cup.

if van gaal comes in i believe he has the power to attract some big names, we still need a CB and 2 CM at least.

No that's what I'm saying, they can afford both. Aftee their increase after the kit deal and increase in league and CL money they'll easy afford another striker and Fabregas. They might not go for a marquee signing like the names you've stated but they'll afford both i'm sure.

I agree. I also hope Van Gaal has unearthed some hitherto unknown Dutch diamonds during his stint as boss.

How will you judge what is a failure though?
How do we really know who he's trying for, whether he's made any mistakes and suchlike?

Is it a failure to target the players rumoured to be targeting? Are they unrealistic? Should many players be unrealistic to a team of our resources?

It's certainly going to be interesting.

The Cavani one is the most odd.

I'm intrigued by the people who think Kroos is virtually a done deal. For me he just has "Fabregas 2013" written all over him. He wants a new contract and we're the leverage.

Yup. I thought nailed-on eleventh hour contract renewal at Bayern from the second we were linked with him.

Completely not the Fabregas saga at all. This rumour started at the beginning of this year; Fabregas started in the summer. Kroos has one year left on his contract; Fabregas had 3. Kroos hasn't stated he wants to remain a Bayern player 100% and sign a new contract; Fabregas never said he wanted to leave Barca at all and was perfectly happy there. Do you now see how completely not the same they are?

van Gaal rates Kroos highly. may be something to it.
I never understood the Cavani links.
I don't buy into the Fabregas links either.

Carvalho? van Gaal has stated he wants Strootman....even if he is injured. I prefer Carvalho. who knows.

Imagine if we don't manage to get any top midfielder again but on transfer deadline day get

Cavani :nervous:

I do think it is much more likely he will sign a new contract at bayern rather than sign for but hopefully Woodward has learnt from last summer and he will make realistic bids, try to get deals done quickly and be prepared to move on to alternatives if he can't make any progress.

I would imagine we must be going to bring in at least 4 players, a cb, 2 CM's and a lb but there could potentially be 1 or 2 more than that if there is a big exodus. Really cannot understand the cavani rumours last thing we need is another forward, if we are going to bring in another attacking player surely it has to be a pacey wide player like reus, griezmann or Lucas.

Yeah, I now see that Kroos hasn't said anything in public. What I'm not seeing in any indication at all that he (a) wants to leave Bayern and (b) wants to join us.

When did he state this?

Personally, I think failure would be not replacing the outgoing players such as Rio and Vidic, we need a LB and are going for Shaw, we need to strengthen CM definitely with 2 players, one defensive and one attacking. If we do sell Kagawa, Nani and Young(I really hope we sell him) then we'll need another pacy, skillful winger.

But Woodward needs to sell the right players also and bring in the right amount of money for them.

I'm pretty sure I remember one report saying the bid is £30 million. Bloody hope not!

I hope we remember we are allowed to look at more value players as well. We are allowed to buy players for under £25m....he might not realise.

It's rare though for footballers to come out before an actual transfer and say they want to join another club. The only encouraging points to note are: The contract hasn't been signed since October-ish time, and he hasn't made any statement to say he wants to stay indefinitely as much as he wants to leave. Fabregas wasn't a leverage for a contract: he didn't want to come end of, no contract was signed after. I really think Bayern will eventually lose him, it's just a matter of whether they want £40 million now or one more year of Kroos.

...probably the same reports that said he wanted Kroos and Hummels.
So he didn't state anything! We haven't even confirmed he's our manger yet never mind 'stating' transfer targets. People aren't half getting carried away. Muppet season is already in full swing, I see. I'm all for discussing who we personally would like to bring in, but pretending we know, with any degree of certainty, who someone (that isn't even our manager yet) wants to buy, is a bit crazy.

Mangala pretty much a must-buy now with Vida and Rio leaving?

Well, perhaps we can avoid sitting on our hands and get involved?!

There is only one person on that list that is realistic: Luke Shaw. The rest are pipe dreams by Moyes.

Van Gaal must have given Woodward a new list of players(realistic targets).

I find it funny that some people actually think we have a chance of signing all of these players in one transfer window. I guess that is what video games do to a person.

We need to sign players like Strootman.

Cavani, Robben, Fabregas? LOL

its all speculation of course. but in several of the reports he was said to have stated ;) he wanted those three.

so what he has not been confirmed manager yet.

Do you doubt he will be?

I doubt those last three myself.

I expect us to make several signings, but every time I look at lists of potential targets I dismiss them thinking "Yeah, right - we have no chance of singing him. Absolutely no chance".

Just like the absolutely no chance we had of signing RVP and Mata...?

Mata doesn't count. If it wasn't for Mourinho he would still be at Chelsea. The targets on our list for the summer are players clubs will fight to keep or other clubs will also bid for.

I don't see anybody else except for Luke Shaw who will want to sign with us.

That's a very ambitious list. I'll be happy if we can get 3 players from it.
